Cleaning the outside of the hat
It is worth assessing the degree of contamination: the presence of specks in the pile, the degree to which the fur has lost its shine, changes in color (most often it changes in places where the fur rubs against the head, especially in light-colored products).
Cleaning natural fur
Items made from natural fur cannot be washed.
Before starting cleaning, you need to carefully knock out the product, removing surface dust from it.
Mechanical method
For processing, you will need a brush with metal teeth - with its help you need to “comb” the cap along the hair growth, removing stuck debris.
You can wrap cloth or cotton wool around the brush to avoid damaging the skin and fibers.
It is worth having a brush in the household: it is used both before dry cleaning to remove large debris, and after - to straighten the pile.
The best option is to carry out the manipulation regularly during the winter season, gradually combing out the accumulated dirt.
This will avoid frequent “general cleanings”, and the fur will always look decent.
Chemical method
This method is used in the presence of deeper contamination. After such cleaning, the hat needs to be combed again to remove any remaining cleaning substances.
Used as a cleaning agent:
Sorbents that collect dirt: starch, sand, bran (they, like sand, need to be preheated), semolina or talc - they are rubbed into the pile and removed by vigorous shaking of the product and a brush.
Acid (acetic essence or lemon juice) is an effective method, but after using it, the hat will inevitably have to be ventilated.
Potato peels with ammonia: rub the dirt with the mixture, after which it is washed off.
Hydrogen peroxide (suitable for light fur) - dilute the solution in half (3%) with water, wipe the hat and let it dry.
Medical alcohol (a cotton swab is moistened in it and used to wipe the stain).
Shampoos for animals (you can choose the option for dogs of a color that matches the shade of your hat): you need to wash carefully, avoiding complete wetness of the fur, using foam rather than the liquid itself. If the contamination is severe, you can rub the stains with a mixture of starch and gasoline.
But it’s not easy to ventilate any room, and gasoline is volatile and toxic
If the contamination is severe, you can rub the stains with a mixture of starch and gasoline. But not every room is easy to ventilate, and gasoline is volatile and toxic. Maybe this is the case when you should save yourself the trouble and take the item to the dry cleaner.
Cleaning faux fur
The situation with eco-fur and other artificial materials is simpler due to the possibility of machine washing (without spinning, on a delicate cycle).
At the same time, some chemicals cannot be used when processing artificial fur (for example, gasoline - instead, you can use a carpet or upholstered furniture cleaner).
How to clean from dust and dirt
It is recommended to clean the white mink from dust and sediment using dry methods. The powders will carefully “pull out” dirt and whiten the product. Unlike wet methods, you don’t have to worry about the undercoat matting or the inner fur becoming deformed. Heavily soiled white items can be cleaned with pet shampoo.
Talc
The powder will help whiten the white mink and collect dirt without wetting the undercoat and causing an aggressive effect on the hair.
Instead of talc, you can clean white fur with table salt or sawdust.
Semolina
White grains are great for cleaning minks from dust and dirty stains. For the best effect, it is recommended to preheat the semolina in a dry frying pan.
Particular attention should be paid to the dirtiest places: collar, sleeves, pockets. In addition to dust and dirt, semolina will collect grease.

Not really
Shampoo for animals
However, you should not soap the mink generously and then rinse it off with plenty of water. It is better to use a spray bottle:
- Dilute a few drops of shampoo in a liter of water.
- Pour into a spray bottle and shake until a slight foam forms.
- Spray the soap solution over the fur (do not wet the undercoat).
- Brush the white mink fur with a soft brush and hang it out to dry.
Instead of liquid shampoo, it is recommended to use dry shampoo. It is used similarly to talc or semolina. The powder is applied to the surface and rubbed in with your hands. After a few minutes, the item is shaken and combed out.
You should not dry your fur coat near heating appliances. It is better to dry at room temperature.
What means can be used?
Shampoo is the most common way to make fur clean and fluffy:
- take shampoo without conditioner and complex additives or wool washing gel;
- pour 50–70 ml into water (2 l), beat into strong foam;
- then apply it with a sponge to the surface of the hat, working the bottom, then the sides;
- repeat the manipulations several times until the foam is completely placed on the headdress. It will absorb dirt;
- Remove any residue with a clean cloth or napkin;
- dry the hat on a can away from heating devices or direct sunlight.
If you don't trust shampoos, try other products. Here are the most common ones:
- Soap – acts as a cleanser. The algorithm of work is the same as with shampoo. Choose soap that does not contain dyes or fragrances. High-quality baby or liquid soap is ideal.
- Salt is an effective remedy for combating any type of pollution. Dissolve salt in water (1 teaspoon per glass), stir. Apply to the hat and let dry. Shake off the remaining composition. For effectiveness, you can add another 1 tsp to the saline solution. ammonia.
- Sawdust has excellent adsorbing properties, which are used as a basis in this method. We apply heated sawdust to the surface of the hat - on each section in turn - thoroughly kneading the fur along with it, as if we were washing it. Then shake the hat, and comb out the remains with a wooden brush or remove with a vacuum cleaner with a furniture attachment. You should only take sawdust from deciduous trees. Conifers contain resins that glue the fur fibers together. It will not be possible to comb the hat after them.
- Starch absorbs dirt like a sponge. The product is sprinkled over the fur, the starch is lightly rubbed in. When it changes color and becomes slightly dirty, it is removed using the previous methods.
- Talc – acts similarly to starch and gets rid of dirt or grease. Cover the hat with talcum powder, give it several hours to contact the fur, then remove the residue from the surface with a brush or wooden comb.
- Alcohol will help remove stains. You need to moisten a swab in alcohol or vodka and treat the stain. Cologne, lotion, and other alcohol-containing liquids cannot be used; they leave yellow or brown stains.
- A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia is an effective way to get rid of yellowness. Gently apply the solution (1 teaspoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide and 4-5 drops of ammonia per glass of water) onto the white fur with a cotton swab. Then comb and dry.
Storage rules
Improper storage is one of the main reasons for the appearance of dirt on the cap. Helpful Tips:
- store the item wrapped in cotton cloth along with moth repellent;
- periodically check the condition of the headgear during storage;
- do not allow a damp environment in the closet or chest of drawers where the hat is located, ventilate the furniture frequently;
- Avoid exposing the stored product to the sun.

You can clean a mink hat at home using either dry or wet cleaning. Getting rid of local contaminants and unpleasant odors is also not difficult if you follow all the cleaning recommendations and properly prepare for the procedure.
How to properly clean fur products at home
Regardless of the type of fur, there are several rules that must be followed when cleaning the product yourself:
- The fur product should be laid out on a flat surface covered with a light cloth.
- Lighting in the room should be as close to natural as possible. It is better to carry out the cleaning process during the day.
- When using chemicals, care must be taken to ensure good ventilation, but drafts should be avoided.
- Before using chemicals (even seemingly gentle ones), you need to apply them in an inconspicuous place on the reverse side of the product.
- After cleaning, you need to dry a natural fur coat in a well-ventilated area or outdoors in the shade. Direct sunlight, hot air and drafts are best avoided.
- Fur coats with short piles are brushed against the growth of hairs, while those with long piles are brushed in the direction of hair growth.
If after cleaning the fur coat has lost its shape, there is no need to try to iron it. Even if the iron does not damage the hairs, they will be crushed and natural fur will lose its attractiveness.
Features of cleaning mink fur products
Not all women can afford even a short fur coat. This fur is one of the most expensive, largely due to its characteristics:
- light weight of the finished product;
- soft, pleasant to the touch pile;
- noble shades from black to snow-white;
- good heat resistance.
This fur is very delicate, to avoid damage it is prohibited:
- use any washing powder and other non-specialized detergents;
- wash the entire fur coat or individual areas in the usual way (by hand or in a washing machine);
- rub and scratch the pile vigorously;
- neutralize unpleasant odors using perfumes, deodorants and other means;
- dry the cleaned fur coat on a radiator, near an open fire or using a hairdryer;
- iron to return to shape;
- remove dust with a vacuum cleaner.
Dry cleaning
Dry cleaning methods are more gentle and safe for natural mink fur . However, they are more suitable for annual preventative cleaning of a fur coat from surface dirt and will not cope with deep stains.
Cleaning with a vacuum cleaner even at the lowest power can damage the fur and create unsightly bald spots. Instead of using a vacuum cleaner, it is better to lightly and carefully beat out the fur coat from the wrong side with your hand or a special beater.
The fur coat loves to be brushed, so periodic cleaning with a special mink fur brush will be useful.
Many people buy brushes for fur coats in pet stores and use them . This is a good alternative, but it is best to use a specialized tool so as not to harm the fur.
Using abrasives
When dry cleaning, adsorbents work best - substances that perfectly absorb dirt.
After shaking off, you will see how much dirt the adsorbent has absorbed . The fur will take on a much more pleasant appearance.
Cleaning mink hats, proven methods
How to clean a natural mink hat yourself? If the fur is dark, the product is cleaned with soapy water. Soap foam is applied to the fur with a sponge, being careful not to wet the fur, then washed off with a damp cloth. Dirt from blue mink is cleaned with hot bran and oatmeal. First, I steam them, pour boiling water over them, cool slightly, and pour them onto the contaminated area. After a while, the fur is combed out with a brush against the growth of hairs.
A solution of 200 ml of water, 50 g will help clean the fur. alcohol, 30-35 gr. salt. Moisten a cotton swab with it and gently wipe the contaminated fur. After this, wipe the area with a damp cloth and apply a couple of drops of glycerin to restore shine to the hair. Instead of the solution, you can use regular vinegar.
A mixture of purified gasoline and starch will help remove greasy stains from the cap. The paste is applied to the fur, allowed to dry, and brushed off. To avoid getting sick from the smell, work is carried out in a ventilated room. When using gasoline, you should also stay away from open flame sources.

How to clean the inside of a product?
You can clean a heavily soiled mink hat at home not only from the outside, but also from the inside.
- Marks are placed on the lining with thread and a pencil, so that they can be sewn back to the original place, then they carefully tear it off, armed with scissors and a blade.
- Carefully inspect the product from the inside. If there are abrasions or holes on the skin, they are hemmed with linen or cotton thread, and the top is covered with a fabric plaster, which is available at the pharmacy.
- They turn the cap inside out, put it on the jar, and begin cleaning the outside.
- When the product has dried and aired, sew on the lining. If it is worn out, it is worth sewing a new one using the old pattern. If the fabric is simply dirty, just wash it in warm soapy water, steam, and sew on the marks.
The described methods are good, but it is impossible to guess how the fur will react to cleaning. Before processing the entire product, it is worth cleaning a separate area, where it is not noticeable.
Radical cleaning techniques
- it will become noticeably smaller, going down several sizes;
- the leather tissue will lose elasticity, become stiffer and, possibly, will crunch unpleasantly;
- some of the fur will come out;
- the remaining part of the fur on the product will sag heavily, shrink and roll up.
Apply the composition only to the stain itself. It is important not to wet the undercoat and undercoat.

Removing stains from mink fur
The worst thing is when various household stains appear on a white fur product. The fur can be dirty due to carelessness with fatty foods or cosmetics. However, don’t get too upset and run to the dry cleaner. You can remove stains at home using cheap improvised means.
- You can deal with many stains on light furs by wiping them with a washcloth and a solution prepared from 400 ml of warm water, a couple of tablespoons of salt and 1 teaspoon of 3% ammonia. After finishing cleaning, the products are additionally wiped with a clean, damp cotton cloth. This is necessary to completely remove any remaining ammonia solution.
- Fresh greasy stains should be generously sprinkled with any available absorbent: starch, talcum powder or baby powder. After some time, the powder is shaken off, and the pile is additionally wiped with a sponge dipped in a foamy soap solution. If it is not possible to completely remove the greasy trace, then it is treated with purified gasoline.
- Highly purified gasoline is mixed with starch to a thick consistency. This composition is used to treat greasy stains. When the mixture is completely dry, it is brushed off.
- You can clean a mink from stains by wiping them with cotton pads and a product made from 200 ml of water, 50 ml of alcohol and 30 g of salt. Having finished cleaning, pass over the pile with a damp rag or napkins and additionally treat it with glycerin (a couple of drops are needed) for shine.
Salt and ammonia are effective means for cleaning fur.
Another option that allows you to wash a light-colored mink hat is to treat it with ammonia and regular salt. To do this, mix a spoonful of salt with a small amount of ammonia in half a liter of water. After this, use a cotton swab to treat the fur in the direction of its pile. Next, the hat should be moistened with a sponge and then wiped with a regular cotton towel.
When processing is completed, the hat must be dried. As when using other options, in this case it is necessary to dry fur products in natural conditions.
How to wash a knitted mink hat
The fashionable product is made from thin strips that are woven into the mesh of the finished fabric or knitted using a special technology. The hat looks great, but the time comes when it’s time to refresh the accessory. You should prepare and, depending on the color of the fur, housewives should decide whether it is possible to wash a mink hat with this particular composition so as not to worsen the pollution. Experienced housewives recommend:
- You can wash a product made of natural fur using shampoo, which is diluted in a basin, foaming with a stream from the shower. Use a sponge to scoop out the resulting foam, then, without rubbing, apply it to the product. The remaining foam is removed with a sponge soaked in clean water, squeezing it thoroughly.
- You can also clean it using a product for natural silk or wool. By following the instructions on the package, you can easily get rid of stubborn dirt. But you need to wash it carefully so that the fur does not get wet to the very base, otherwise the product will shrink in size.
- For knitted items made of dark fur, you can safely take mustard powder, which is first diluted in water to a porridge-like mass, which is applied to the pile, leaving for 5-10 minutes, and then comb out the remaining powder that has absorbed the dirt. A clothes brush will help remove grains.
- Semolina or ground bran will help get rid of impurities. The composition is applied to the entire surface of the product, gently rubbing it into the fur. After 5-7 minutes, remove the cereal with a brush. The product is shaken and dried naturally.
- If housewives are heavily soiled and are puzzled by how to wash a knitted mink hat, alcohol and vinegar will come to the rescue. Using a solution of a liter of water at room temperature with the addition of 10 ml of a special rinse aid for woolen products, into which 100 ml of vinegar and alcohol are poured, treat the surface of the mink hat, preventing the base from getting wet. The sponge should be damp, but not wet. The product is applied both in the direction of the pile and against it.
- A mink beret or a knitted hat can be cleaned with salt. Dissolve a heaping tablespoon of salt in 200 ml of water and add 3 tbsp. alcohol The brush is moistened with this mixture and passed in the direction of hair growth, and then in the opposite direction. To prevent the product from losing its shape, the beret is stuffed with newspapers, forming the desired shape.
- Greasy areas are treated with vinegar, which is applied to a cotton pad.
- Grease stains are removed using purified gasoline, which is applied locally to the stain. After 30-40 minutes there will be no trace of grease or smell of gasoline.
Finding out whether a factory-made knitted mink hat can be washed is necessary after studying the manufacturer’s recommendations set out on the label. It is extremely rare to wash knitted items with mink stripes. In this case, it is necessary to use hair shampoo with conditioner and immerse the product in water whose temperature does not exceed 30 degrees. The hat should not be rubbed in water; manipulations should resemble washing your own hair. Rinse with wool conditioner and let the water drain without wringing. Dry flat on a terry towel, then pull the barely damp cap onto a 3-liter jar. If knitted hats have fur pompoms, it is better to remove them during traditional washing.
Professional cleaning products
For a mink hat, as for a fur coat, you can purchase special cleaning products. The most effective are considered:
- "Insaf". The composition fights pollution, protects against insects and moths. After processing, a thin, invisible film is formed on the surface of the pile, which repels dust and small dirt. It has an antistatic effect, which prevents fur from matting.
- "Ultra finish milk". A composition that will restore silkiness, softness, and renew the mink hat.
- "Fur fresh professional" from "SALAMANDER". Available in the form of a spray to restore the shade of the color of the headdress.
You can wash a knitted hat with suitable household chemicals designed for wool or silk. But the work must be done carefully so that the material does not get wet to the ground - because of this, the product may decrease in size. When choosing professional products, you must carefully read the instructions and strictly follow them when using them to avoid damage to the material.
How to wash a mink hat
Many Internet users are wondering, is it possible to wash a mink hat? The answer to this question is quite simple - mink fur is washable quite well.
The only condition is that washing must be delicate, and you definitely cannot use an automatic machine for it.
Mink fur can be washed by hand at home. At the same time, you should not purchase any expensive products in stores - you can easily get by with the solutions that each of us has at home. However, before you start washing, you need to finally make sure that the substances you use will not harm the fur. To do this, various kinds of test reactions are carried out.
The easiest way to wash a mink hat at home is with a solution consisting of regular shampoo.
For successful washing, it is best to use a shampoo that has a neutral effect.
The whole process must begin by heating the water used to a temperature of around 50-60 degrees. After this, you need to pour shampoo into the water (you can also use liquid soap, but it must have a neutral composition). After the water has foamed, take a foam sponge and clean in the direction of the lint.
After washing the hat, you need to remove any remaining shampoo from it using a stream of cold water. The final stage is drying the fur.
The hat should be dried in natural conditions, without resorting to a hair dryer, drying on a radiator, radiators, etc.
Many people are interested in the question of how to wash a mink hat if light fur was used in its manufacture. In this case, there is no need to resort to washing in the literal sense of the word. To restore the shade, you need to use regular hydrogen peroxide. After mixing 1 tablespoon of peroxide with a glass of water, use a spray bottle to spray the top of the hat with the resulting solution, and then leave it to dry.
The essence of this method is that the restoration of shades occurs using a peculiar chemical reaction in which peroxide enters, combining with dirt particles. In addition to peroxide, you can use regular starch or talc, but in these cases the so-called dry wash occurs, without the use of liquid.
In addition, how to wash a knitted hat made from mink fur, many are interested in the question of how to combat stains. It is a well-known fact that stains are firmly embedded in the fur and are almost impossible to remove. In fact, nothing is impossible - you just need to act correctly.
Gasoline works great on greasy stains. However, before using it, you need to make sure that it will not damage the fur. If the quality of gasoline meets international standards, then it will not react with fur.
In order to wash a hat with gasoline, you need to take a soft cloth, moisten it in gasoline and gently rub it over the surface of the fur in the place where the stain is planted. After the hat is dry, the fur can be combed using a rare comb designed for animals.
Before washing the hat using this method, it is necessary to test for the reaction of gasoline. To do this, just apply a few drops of it to the inside of the cap. If there is no reaction, gasoline can be used.
How to clean the lining of a hat?
It's not just fur that needs regular cleaning. The lining of the hat is constantly in contact with the hair follicles of the head, which secrete sebum and fat. Of course, the fabric needs to be washed or cleaned. The dirty lining fabric of a hat can be freshened. To do this, choose one of three methods that are suitable for you:
- Carefully tear the fabric away from the hat, wash and steam. Sew the treated lining onto the old place;
- spread the fabric, attach the parts to the paper, cut along the contour. From another fabric according to the pattern, make a new lining and place it inside the hat;
- moisten the sponge with soapy water, wipe the cloth with it, and remove the residue with a damp cloth.
Important! Wash the lining in warm water to avoid shrinkage. If such a problem does occur, the situation can only be corrected by sewing a new part.

Dry cleaning
Cleaning a mink coat using the dry method is the simplest and most gentle method for fur. For this method, products such as talc or starch are well suited, which best help deal with dirt on a white mink coat.
In order to carry out dry cleaning, you must first shake the item from dust, spread a sheet and place the item on it. Then you need to rub the selected cleaning agent into the pile and after a while remove it by shaking the item well.
Another good cleaning agent is sawdust. You can buy such sawdust at any pet store.
To clean them, you need to mix them in a suitable basin with clean gasoline and place the fur coat in it. After such a “wash”, it is necessary to remove sawdust and allow to dry.
Cleaning from dirt
- You can clean a mink fur coat from dirt using regular semolina, as it perfectly absorbs any dirt. The surface of the item must be sprinkled with semolina, and then carefully combed with a fine-toothed brush in the direction of the lint growth. In order to completely get rid of all the remaining dirt and semolina after cleaning, you should shake the fur coat well.
- If there are fresh traces of dirt, they must be allowed to dry before starting cleaning. And only after that, using a regular cleaning brush, begin to remove dirt. After this “combing”, the fur coat must be shaken well several times.
- Regular talc will help get rid of dirt. To do this, you need to pour the product onto the pile and rub the talc with your hands. After cleaning, residues are easily removed from the surface of the fur coat after thorough shaking.
First stage of cleansing
There are reliable methods that can effectively remove stains from a fur hat. In most cases, it does not make much difference what kind of fur is used - the methods are suitable for mouton, mink, arctic fox, etc.
Before you wash your fur hat at home, you need to figure out how dirty it is. If there are lumps of dirt, deeply embedded, or matted fibers, then mechanical cleaning is required and only then use chemicals.
Mechanical cleaning is carried out using a stiff combing brush. Before brushing the Arctic fox, which usually has fur, you need to wrap a little cotton wool around the brush. This will protect the bottom layer from being pulled out without preventing dirt from being removed.
A product with short pile is best cleaned of dust using wet gauze. The entire surface of the headdress is covered with gauze, and then dust and small dirt are knocked out by patting the inside. They settle on gauze and make it possible to easily carry out chemical exposure.
It is recommended to remove the yellow coating that periodically appears on the surface of a light fur garment. For this, regular potato starch or talc is used. The powder product is applied to the entire product and thoroughly rubbed into the hairs. After a few minutes, you need to shake and knock out the remaining powder by patting the inside with movements. At the end of the procedure, comb with a stiff brush.
Dry bleaching
You can clean mink fur at home using dry bleaching methods. To do this, use substances that absorb excess moisture and dirt well and remove dust deposits. The following gentle components are used as dry bleaches:
- semolina;
- starch;
- talc;
- chalk;
- bran;
- sawdust.
The main feature of this cleaning method is that it does not require the use of liquid, so the product will not need to be dried.
Semolina
Semolina grains perfectly absorb dirt and also remove dust. For processing, the product should be placed on a table or clean floor. If you need to clean your hat with semolina, you need to put it on a three-liter bottle wrapped in a towel.
You should clean the fur with semolina according to the instructions:
- Sprinkle problem areas with a small amount of semolina.
- The entire surface is carefully combed with a brush with soft bristles.
- After the semolina turns gray, it is removed. If necessary, cleaning can be repeated.
You can remove semolina by shaking the product or vacuuming it. In the latter case, only weak devices should be used.
Gasoline based mixtures
A mixture made from potato starch and gasoline will help deal with yellowing. Both components are mixed until a mushy mass appears. The mixture is distributed over all contaminated areas and left until completely dry. The fur is carefully combed out using a fine-toothed comb. If desired, you can remove the applied product with a low-power vacuum cleaner.
Another effective remedy is sawdust soaked in a small amount of gasoline. The resulting product is distributed over the yellowed pile, and then gently rubbed into the product and left for 2 hours. The sawdust is shaken off and the pile is carefully combed out with a comb.
Wheat bran
The fur collar can be cleaned using wheat bran heated to 60 degrees. The product is heated in a clean frying pan, and it should be stirred regularly. Hot bran is poured in an even layer onto the pile, and then gently rubbed into it using a soft brush.
The applied product should be removed only after it has completely cooled. To remove small bran particles, comb the pile with a fine-toothed comb.
Talc, chalk, combed out with a comb
White talc, which is sprinkled evenly on the product, will help clean dirt and dust from a fur coat or hat. The ingredient is gently rubbed into the pile using a brush or fingers. After 2 hours, the talc is shaken off, and its remains are combed out with a special brush.
In a similar way, chalk or potato starch can be used to clean a fur coat or hat. For processing, chalk powder is used, which you can buy or prepare yourself by grinding a block.
Removing dirt and yellowness from white fur items
Cleaning a white mink hat at home can be more challenging due to the limited number of approved ingredients. In addition, long-term storage can lead to yellowing of the fur, and the wrong choice of detergents can change the color and leave permanent stains. There are several effective and safe ways to clean lightweight hats:
- Using peroxide. Water and the main component are added to the container in equal proportions, then the headdress is treated with the composition and dried in the sun. This method will not only get rid of dirt, but also make the fur shiny. Gypsum, talc and starch. These substances will restore whiteness and softness to the products. It is enough to spray the cap with the selected product, leave for an hour, then shake to remove grains of the substance. Combined option for cleaning old dirt. To do this, first sprinkle the fur hat with chalk (you can replace it with talcum powder), then wipe the product with shampoo foam, massaging the fur. After 1-2 hours, remove the residue with a brush. Vinegar. A clean cloth is moistened with the mixture, the dirt is treated, the residue is combed out with a brush, and a little glycerin is applied to the pile. Semolina. Take 2 kg of cereal, pour it into a bowl, place the cap into the container and “rinse” it with careful movements. After cleaning, just shake off the semolina and brush it off. Solutions with peroxide and ammonia. The solution is poured into a bottle with a spray bottle, the stopper is processed, evenly distributing the composition throughout the fur. The hat is left in the sun, after which the material is treated with vinegar to restore shine and softness.
When choosing absorbent products for cleaning (semolina, starch), after processing they should be removed as carefully as possible. When wet or damp, they become “bait” for moths.
Cleaning a fur hat
Fur hats look impressive, but quickly lose their shine and appearance. If the fur begins to fade, and greasy or worn places appear on the inside, such a product needs to be cleaned and repaired.
Fur cleaning
If the contamination is minor, you can simply clean it using natural adsorbents, since washing a fur hat will not work. After this, you need to ventilate and dry it in the fresh air.
To clean, you can use semolina or starch, which are poured into the pile, then rub all parts of the hat with care, shake and comb out the remains with a brush or vacuum cleaner.
For radical cleaning, you need to remove the lining (wash and iron or replace with a new one), turn it inside out and repair the inside. To do this, patch or seal the cracks, put a cap on the jar and rub in a mixture of starch and gasoline, and after half an hour, clean out the residue with a brush. To understand that the hat is clean, you need to look at the starch - it should remain white. Shake the headdress thoroughly, comb and air dry away from heaters or direct sunlight.
Removing stains
Sweat stains that appear are cleaned with a solution (1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of ammonia and 500 ml of water); the stain should be wiped with the resulting mass to remove dirt.
Wipe grease stains with a rag with gasoline (with short fur on the product - against the pile, with long fur - along the pile).
Yellowish spots often appear on light fur; they are treated with a special solution of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. To renew light fur, add the mixture to a spray bottle, spray the area of contamination and dry in air or in a well-ventilated area. In addition, you can use talc, rub it into the pile for 2.5 hours, shake the hat and brush off any residue.
Knitted fur
Knitted mink hats require a lot of attention, care and regular cleaning, since a knitted mink hat cannot be washed.
If the dirt is not heavy, use regular shampoo, liquid soap or a special product for cleaning wool products. You need to whip up the foam and wipe the headdress with it, and remove the residue with a damp sponge. A mink, especially a blue one, needs to be treated with care, so cleaning should be done as carefully as possible; if the foam gets into the leather base, the hat may shrink and become smaller. A large amount of product will worsen the appearance, softness and quality of the pile. There is an option for cleaning a natural mink hat without foaming agents. You need to take a tablespoon of salt and dissolve it in a glass of water with the addition of two tablespoons of alcohol
. Wet the brush and gently wipe the product. After cleaning, dry naturally, without the use of hair dryers, batteries or sunlight. A natural mink headdress should be left outdoors in the shade until completely dry and combed thoroughly.
Lemon juice or table vinegar is also used to clean the beret. It needs to be diluted with water 1:1 and using a well-wrung out cotton pad, wipe the pile until clean. After drying, the hat can be treated with glycerin, which adds fluffiness, and the fur can be thoroughly combed.
Headdress with fur pompom
Popular knitted hats
fur pom poms also require care, but since you cannot wash a hat with a fur pom pom, you need to disconnect the pom pom and clean it separately. In high-quality copies, a function for removing the pompom from the product is provided for this purpose. Fastening with special ribbons will help solve the issue of washing; if the pompom is firmly sewn, you can cut it and make the fastening yourself by sewing a ribbon to it and securing it.
A pompom made from arctic fox fur is cleaned using a solution: 500 ml of water, 1 tsp. ammonia and 3 tsp. salt. The fur is thoroughly blotted and combed during the drying process.
The rabbit pom-pom is sprayed with hydrogen peroxide or moistened with vinegar (this will remove yellowness) and combed out thoroughly.
Storage recommendations
Improper storage of a headdress can cause damage to the hat, changes in its appearance, and deformation. Helpful Tips:
- It is recommended to store fur products in a fabric bag;
- keep the product in a bag, in an unventilated room;
- to avoid damage by moths, place a special insect repellent or a handkerchief soaked in lavender oil nearby;
- maximum humidity – 60%;
- the headdress should be ventilated periodically;
- the temperature should be about +10°C;
- Dark hats should not be dried in the open sun - this may cause color loss.
By following all the rules for cleaning mink hats, you can extend their service life and maintain their appearance for a long time.
Method number 2. Hot bran
This cleaning method involves the use of rye or wheat bran. To begin the manipulations, take a glass liter jar, add the bulk composition to it (measure the amount). Prepare a saucepan of a suitable size, pour the bran into it, and place it on the stove. Set the heat to between medium and low
It is important to monitor the process, the product should not burn. Select a jar or pan the size of the cap. Place the product on the device and begin to sprinkle it with heated bran
Use your palm against the nap to thoroughly (but gently) rub the product into the fur. Process the top of the cap in a similar manner, then the side walls. Comb out the bran with a wooden or tortoiseshell comb, the teeth of which are located at a certain distance from each other. Knock out the remains with a plastic stick or a thin comb wrapped in gauze. If you don't have bran, use medium-ground corn grits or sawdust that doesn't have any resin/pine needles.
