How to make a solution for soap bubbles? Soap bubbles are a fun game for children of all ages that does not require any physical effort or material costs. With soap bubbles, an ordinary walk turns into an exciting adventure: children jump, catch bubbles - they will never be bored anymore.
Attention: for safety reasons, you should carefully ensure that soap bubble solutions do not get on mucous surfaces or in the child’s mouth. Solutions can be dangerous for the child's body.
How to make a solution for soap bubbles: recipes at home
The basis of any solution is water and soap. But in order to ensure optimal viscosity, you need to follow the preparation technology and the proportions of the introduced ingredients. It is better to use distilled liquid (boil, cool).
Classic recipe
The classic recipe involves mixing 20 ml of warm water (to improve solubility, the liquid should not be excessively cold) with liquid soap, approximately 100 ml (if there is no liquid, then take a solid bar and grind it, for example, by grating it). Mix everything thoroughly.
Colorful balls cause special delight when they do not burst for a long time, about 5-7 seconds, or even minutes. This effect will last if you follow the secret of the classic method - infuse the solution for about two hours at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
With glycerin
Also refers to the classic recipes for preparing a composition for launching beautiful balls. The addition of an organic compound gives strength and long-term “survivability”:
- Mix water (approximate volume - half a liter) with liquid soap (50 ml) and pour in glycerin (two tablespoons are enough). All components must be mixed thoroughly and the resulting mass must also be kept for 2 hours so that it infuses.
- At home, you can prepare glycerin yourself by mixing urea with magnesium or potassium chloride, but it is much easier to purchase it at any pharmacy at a very affordable price.
- This substance is safe, it is used in the production of cosmetics, it will not cause any harm to the child’s skin, even if it gets on the face. It does not change the color of clothing, and if it gets into the eyes, it does not sting.
- A well-prepared mixture gives an amazing result - balloons, having successfully landed on asphalt or another horizontal surface, turn into hemispheres and sometimes last even for 10 or even 15 minutes.
Another recipe with glycerin, which is used by experts, to make the bubbles the strongest and longest lasting.
Mix 600 ml of hot water (but not boiling water) with 50 g of detergent powder (other foaming agent), add 300 g of glycerin and 20 drops of ammonia. Stir until smooth, leave for 2-3 days, then filter and store in the refrigerator.
Without glycerin
If you don’t have a pharmaceutical product at home, but you don’t want to go shopping, you can use food.
For example, use gelatin (50 g) mixed with purified water (200 ml). Pour in the foaming composition (100 ml). At the end, add at least 50 g of sugar (you can use a little more so that the balls in the air retain their shape longer). All components must be mixed thoroughly.
The method is intended for one-time use. Sugar replaces the pharmaceutical substance.
There is no point in storing the solution in the refrigerator for later use, since the bubbles simply will not be blown out, but pleasure for several hours is guaranteed, especially since the container usually runs out much faster.
From laundry soap
The method is suitable for those who love multi-colored, neat spheres that are strong enough not to burst immediately after blowing. For warm summer days, you can prepare a large volume of solution to use it during daily walks on the street or triple the foam party:
- Take a whole bar of regular laundry soap and grate the shavings from it.
- Boil 400 ml of water in a saucepan and add soap in parts, stirring well.
- Reduce the heat to low and leave on the stove, stirring occasionally, until a viscous, thick and smooth consistency forms.
- The mixture should stand for about 2 days; it can be stored in the refrigerator for a long time, for example, a week.
- Before direct use, it should be kept at room temperature, or better yet, in the refrigerator.
- You can add a little sugar and ammonia (about 1 tsp) to shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow.
Using liquid soap
The workpiece can be prepared in any volume, the main thing is to maintain the proportions. Mix 20 ml of warm water and 100 ml of liquid soap. Wait for the foam to settle, about a couple of hours.
After this, add about glycerin (10 drops are enough), let it brew, for example, in the refrigerator. If soap is not enough, then use shampoo or other household detergents (separately or mixed in parts).
From washing powder
To ensure that all components dissolve effectively, use hot water (3 cups):
- Add washing powder (a couple of tablespoons), mix well and sprinkle ammonia there, about 20 drops.
- It is advisable to leave the resulting composition for 3-4 days, after which it is filtered, for example, through several layers of gauze.
Yes, you will have to wait, but the soap film will be durable, and the blown spheres will turn out to be especially unusual and large in diameter, just like in a colorful show.
From sugar syrup
This method will especially appeal to children's inquisitive minds, because from this composition a wide variety of unique figures and shapes are preserved on the smooth surface of a table or floor for several minutes.
In order for the effect to last for a long time, you need to follow the recipe and proportions, namely:
- take 1 part of syrup: the concentration of water (10 ml) and sugar (50 g) is 1:5;
- 8 parts warm water;
- soap (can be hard, grated into shavings) – 2 parts;
- glycerin – 2 parts.
Or another recipe option:
- 400 ml water (boiled, cooled);
- 100 g grated soap (shavings);
- 200 g of liquid glycerin;
- 60 ml of sugar syrup: warm water (10 ml) and granulated sugar (50 g).
Using this method, you can arrange a colorful show at home, in a kindergarten group or at school, creating unique shaped combinations by connecting bubbles made of heavy-duty film in series.
With added detergents
Pour 2 cups of water into a saucepan and pour in 0.5 cups of the gel you use to wash dishes, but not a special preparation for dishwashers.
Then add sugar (a couple of teaspoons) or glycerin in the same amount and stir thoroughly.
To make the figures more colorful, leave the resulting mixture for 1 day (you can put it in the refrigerator).
From shampoo
You will need water (preferably boiled and cooled) in the amount of 400 ml, add 200 ml of shampoo (you can use it for children), mix well and let everything sit for about a day.
To increase the viscosity, before use it is recommended to pour in glycerin (3 tbsp) or add sugar (6 tsp).
Colored soap bubbles
Preparing a solution at home for exciting fun is interesting not only because of the numerous recipes, but also because of the freedom of creative expression, including the opportunity to “play” with bright colorful shades.
Such multi-colored soap bubbles will especially appeal to children, will delight adults, and pets will happily chase after them.
For this method you will need paint; ordinary watercolors and gouache are excellent; they can be easily washed off clothes and removed from other surfaces (floors, countertops, refrigerators, etc.).
It is better to prepare several containers at once, for example, 4-5, in order to obtain solutions of different colors. At stage 1, water is mixed with gouache, the amount of which is added depending on the desired color intensity. After this, other components are added:
- Mix 0.5 liters of water (purified, warm) with paint of the desired color;
- liquid soap or other foaming agent in an amount of 150 ml;
- 20 g sugar.
Mix everything thoroughly; to strengthen the film, you can add glycerin and ammonia, a few drops are enough.
Useful tips, safety rules
To ensure that playing with soap bubbles does not have negative consequences for the well-being and health of its participants, regardless of their age, it is recommended to follow basic safety rules:
- avoid getting even a minimal amount of soap solution on the mucous membranes;
- If the composition gets into your eyes, rinse them with plenty of water;
- If a concentrated soap solution gets into your stomach, drink at least 200 ml of clean water (this will help reduce the concentration of toxic substances in the body).
Experienced showmen specializing in performances with soap bubbles recommend to beginners:
- do not use running water to prepare the solution;
- avoid soap compositions with a high content of dyes, fragrances, and fragrances;
- strictly observe the proportions and do not try to artificially increase the strength of the walls of soap bubbles (for example, excess glycerin or sugar leads to a situation where bubbles are not blown out of the molds);
- After preparation, leave the solution to infuse in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
Standard proportions of substances in a store-bought solution for soap bubbles
Soap bubbles do not require much energy to make. The solution for launching them can be created from available components, most of which are safe for both adults and children.
Despite this, regardless of the type of composition chosen, before playing with bubbles, adults should not only study the safety rules themselves, but also explain them to the younger generation.

Food coloring for color
The method is somewhat more complicated than in the recipe with gouache, but everything can be learned by comparison and you need to try this method to find out the “survival time” of the soap balls.
Subsequence:
- add food coloring (liquid or powder) to half a liter of purified water, gradually, focusing on the desired final color result;
- pour liquid soap (of a similar color or colorless) in an amount of 150 ml into the resulting color mixture;
- add the bulk composition - mix gelatin and powdered sugar, maintaining a 1: 1 ratio, for example, 20 g of each component;
- everything is thoroughly mixed to a homogeneous consistency and left to brew for 8 hours, for example, overnight.
Traditional composition
To make soap balls, as if from a familiar bright bottle, consider the recipe “like in a store.” It will require:
- 25 g of laundry soap (if you don’t have it, you can take glycerin soap);
- 1 large glass (250 ml) water;
- 1 teaspoon glycerin;
The soap can be grated on a coarse grater or, alternatively, chopped with a knife, then pour in well-heated water and wait until completely dissolved, stirring. Pour the last component into the cooled mixture. Ready!
Big soap bubbles
The cheerful mood should last long. Especially if there is a birthday, a foam party or an outdoor celebration and a picnic in the fresh air. You should approach the event responsibly and prepare the solution in advance, for example, the night before.
To blow large and heavy bubbles, use any shampoo or other well-foaming product (shampoo, shower gel or dishwashing gel) as a basis.
Add 300 ml of purified water at room temperature (warm) and glycerin in an amount of at least 1-2 tbsp. l. and the same amount of granulated sugar. Mix thoroughly until smooth, put in the refrigerator for 10-12 hours.
You will get magnificent large “long-lasting” bubbles that can be blown sequentially, molding them together to create bizarre shapes and configurations and filming them. For a “rainbow” look, you can pour in 20 drops of ammonia.
If there is a big holiday coming up and there are many participants, then the proportions will be as follows:
- take 5 liters of water;
- pour 200 g of sugar into it;
- Pour 200 g of glycerin into the resulting mixture;
- use 1 liter of dishwashing detergent.
Extra strong bubbles
When preparing a colorful show, a matinee for a kindergarten or a performance at school, you need to take the organization of the event seriously and prepare a composition that guarantees that the flying spheres will not burst for a long time.
How to prepare the mixture so that the balls do not burst, even if you touch them with your hands? Of course, you can purchase a specialized gel in a specialized crafts and crafts store, but you can prepare a fairly effective composition in your kitchen at home:
- Gently melt 100 g of granulated sugar in a saucepan, adding a small amount of water and stirring constantly until a homogeneous consistency is obtained.
- Pour in water gradually, a total of 1.5 liters will be required.
- Gradually, in small portions, introduce 100 g of gelatin, constantly stirring the solution.
- Then 50 ml of a foaming base (dishwashing detergent is better, but shampoo or liquid soap is also possible).
- For viscosity and density, add 200 ml of glycerin.
- Add 10-20 drops of ammonia.
- Filter, for example, through several layers of gauze.
- Leave for at least 12 hours. Can be stored in the refrigerator for several days.
- It is advisable to keep the mixture cool before using it directly.
Composition of sugar and gel (liquid) for washing dishes
This recipe is even simpler because instead of solid soap you will need a ready-made liquid. So take:
- 1 glass (200 ml) water;
- 1⁄4 cup hand dishwashing liquid;
- 1 teaspoon of sugar.
Heat the water a little, add granulated sugar and dish liquid, mix thoroughly until the sugar is completely dissolved. Once the mixture has cooled, you are ready to release the rainbow balloons!
Quality checking
The shapes, sizes, strength and “durability” of bubbles depend on the chosen recipe, the set of ingredients and compliance with the cooking sequence and proportions of the ingredients.
The best indicator of quality are neat balls or fancy multi-layered figures, shimmering with all the colors of the rainbow and flying in the air not only for a few seconds, but even for a few minutes.
Quality check, inflate the soap sphere, and then dip your finger in the prepared foam and touch the ball.
If it doesn’t burst, the quality is excellent, the composition is prepared correctly.
If the sphere does not inflate or bursts quickly, then this is not a reason for frustration - you just need to add a foaming agent (shampoo, soap, detergents), glycerin (a few drops) or a little sugar.
What to blow from
The size of the bubbles directly depends on what tools are used to blow them. If you haven’t bought anything similar at your nearest store, you can make a suitable prop yourself from:
- wire rolled into a loop;
- a plastic bottle with the bottom cut off (you need to blow into the neck);
- straws for soft drinks. If its lower edge is cut longitudinally, the balls will turn out larger;
- housings from a school pen or felt-tip pen.
And if you take a hoop, a plastic rug beater or a variety of cookie cutters, you can easily use them in their finished form without changing anything. In the most desperate cases, even pasta is suitable for blowing soap bubbles, although you will need several of them, because the edge of such a “tube” will soon get wet and stick together from the liquid solution.
What objects to inflate with?
Of course, you should save (at least 1 copy) of a magazine container with a finished form (product) for blowing soap bubbles. You can buy a special water pistol. You can also use other items and means:
- a straw, a pasta, the main part of a ballpoint pen, a juice tube (it can be split at one end), etc.;
- a household funnel or paper rolled into a cone (preferably thick cardboard);
- plastic bottle with a cut bottom. Air should be blown in through the neck, and the size and shape will depend on the volume of the bottle;
- badminton or tennis rackets (the net can be removed or the cells can be expanded), carpet beater;
- palms - after wetting your hands in a basin with the mixture, you can blow out unique shapes through your fingers. Make a “heart” with both hands or a ring by connecting your thumb with your index finger;
- many use molds for cutting out dough or children's toys for making sand cakes;
- build frames, for example, by twisting wire;
- A hoop works well for creating larger shapes, and is sometimes wrapped in fabric to retain more liquid.
You can use soap figures not only in summer. It is especially interesting and informative to conduct an experiment outdoors in winter - at an ambient temperature of -7 degrees, a soap ball will freeze in the air.
Exciting soap games will forever remain in the memory as one of the more fun children's activities. Small and large in size, neatly round or intricately layered, multi-colored and varied, they will decorate any holiday and keep a child occupied at any time of the year.
About the influence of weather and drafts
When a celebration with bubble fireworks is planned outdoors, the quantity and quality of rainbow balls will significantly depend on weather conditions. Not recommended
- blow bubbles in strong winds, especially when there is dust;
- organize a holiday with soap balls on summer days, when the air temperature is more than 25 ° C., which is more relevant for residents of the southern regions of Russia.
But when it rained or the area in front of the house was recently watered, causing the air to become humid, the celebration with the soap show will go off with a bang. It is better to schedule it for the morning or evening.
If children want to blow bubbles at home:
- it is important to avoid drafts, as they will become a nuisance;
- The room should not be too hot, moderately humid and not at all dusty.
It should be remembered that when soap balls burst, they leave streaks on the floor and furniture. The consequences depend on the composition of the solution and the characteristics of the surface.
