Diagonal
The diagonal knot seems quite complicated only at first glance . In fact, to create one, it is enough to combine knowledge about the classical and Windsor ways of tying a tie and follow the following steps in sequence:
- the tie is put on the neck in the old, familiar way (the wider and longer side is on the left);
- the left half of the product is placed on top of the right and goes around it twice;
- the tip of the wide part of the tie is first inserted from the outside into the knot formed, and then brought out to the back side;
- the tip is passed through the loop that appeared as a result of the double “winding” and pulled down.
The photo shows how to tie a diagonal knot in a tie:
Voila, a light and original knot is already ready. All that remains is to slightly pull the ends of the tie and straighten out the beautiful weave with your hands.

What is a skinny tie?
A skinny tie is a very fashionable accessory, especially popular among young people. It is thinner than standard and measures 1.5 to 2.5 inches wide at its widest point. But at the same time its length is the same as that of a regular tie. This ultra-stylish tie is available in fabrics such as wool, silk, microfiber, cotton and jersey cotton.
Choosing the right skinny tie can add a touch of class and class to your look. A narrower tie shape will give a retro look, while a wider tie will suit a more traditional look.
Symmetrical Windsor knot
The Windsor knot is a voluminous and symmetrical knot that looks great on collars with soft corners (like on polo shirts), medium and wide collars.

Features of the herring tie
How to tie a skinny tie correctly? Considered a fairly universal accessory, it has an impressive range of features:
- The unusualness of the herring tie is that its width varies from 3 to 7 cm, while the width of a regular one is about 10 cm. A thin type of accessory nowadays looks much more modern than a regular one and will fit perfectly into a man’s look with style smart casual.
- The main rule when tying such a tie is maintaining proportions. The knots should be relatively small to make the overall look look complete.
- After tying, the edge of the tie should always be slightly higher than the level of the belt, otherwise you will look unattractive with any type of tie.
- When wearing this accessory, a belt is a must.
- If you want to wear a herring tie with a jacket, then you need to ensure that the sizes of the accessory itself and the lapels match.
- The best way to tie a narrow tie is to make a small and asymmetrical knot.
- Any type of tie needs to be studied first, because each of them can be combined with a certain wardrobe.
- Once you have tied a skinny tie once, you should not wear it the next day, as it will leave creases and may make your appearance look untidy. Or first iron the tie in place of the knot.
Fashionable asymmetry or Prince Albert knot
The Prince Albert knot or Prince Albert knot is a rather sophisticated and asymmetrical knot for a tie. Looks great on thin men. We recommend using a thin tie up to 5-6 cm wide. Suitable for medium, wide and button collars.

Edbridge
The Elbridge is a really difficult way to tie a skinny tie. To tie it, you need to go through as many as 15 steps. The peculiarity is that the distance that you initially leave when tying near the neck will ultimately remain the same, and you won’t be able to tie the tie stronger at the final point. Therefore, initially you need to do everything closely.
- To tie this knot correctly, the wide edge should be on the right, narrow on the other side.
- Take the tie on the right side and make a fold on it.
- Bring the narrow part from left to right, wrap it around the wide part from behind and tuck it inside the loop.
- The narrow end should now be on the right side.
- Bring it over the narrow one and then tuck it from the inside out into the loop.
- Pull the narrow end to the left.
- Then grab it from the inside. You need to tuck this edge into its own loop.
- Now the narrow end needs to be brought under the part that wraps the neck. (repeat this step twice, leaving a small loop the second time)
- We turn the narrow part from left to right only from the inside, under the wide end.
- You must push the thin end on the right into the loop left earlier in step 8.
- Now the remaining piece of the thin end needs to be hidden under the tie; it won’t be visible because of the collar.
- Adjust any creases in the tie to suit your convenience.
Kelvin knot
The Kelvin knot or Kelvin is named after the physicist and inventor William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin - the same one who invented the Kelvin scale. Very similar to the Quarter Knot, suitable for short and classic collars.

- Then pass the wider part through the neck loop from bottom to top.
- It should be under the narrow one, and then turn it around the narrow one again
- Pass the working part through the neck loop and push it into the knot created by the wrapping.

Who suits a skinny tie?
A skinny tie may not suit everyone. So it’s not enough to just learn how to tie a narrow tie correctly, you also need to figure out whether it suits you or not.
It will look best on thin and tall men. The main thing is to make sure that you do not choose an ultra-thin tie, as it will make you look slimmer than you actually are. Shorter guys can also benefit from skinny ties because the thinness of the tie detracts attention from their height and puts emphasis on their face, thus making others think they are taller. Guys with heavy builds should avoid wearing a skinny tie. A narrow tie will only emphasize their already impressive shape.

What goes with it?
It is a versatile piece with numerous benefits and endless possibilities. There are no restrictions on what to wear with a fashion accessory, creating your own unique look. It all depends on the purpose of going out, the material used and the rest of the wardrobe. The main advantage and success among young people is associated with the violation of the previously immutable principle of using a tie only in combination with a jacket:
- with a classic or light suit, if the business trip requires compliance with the dress code, but you have to go to the meeting directly from the vehicle;
- with mismatched trousers and a jacket and a shirt in a neutral tone;
- with a denim, Oxford or linen shirt, cardigan, military jacket or knitted jacket;
- The scope of application of casual ties has been expanded to blazers, jumpers, cashmere and wool sweaters with a cape neckline.
A knitted tie is appropriate for both business and casual style.
The possibilities for applying a fashion trend extend to a wide range of styles - from business to sports (with jeans and sneakers) and informal (with suede shoes or boots, trousers of the appropriate cut). To create an image with retro elements, you can add a pocket square, a bouquet in your jacket pocket, a traditional clip made of precious metal, or a massive watch as an accenting accessory.
Choosing the right tie knot
Tie knots differ from each other. Size, symmetry and shape can vary greatly. Depending on the tie, the type of knot and the ability to tie a tie, the result will be different. For example, wide ties are often tied with only medium knots, such as "Quarter" or "Kent". Thin ones can be tied with any knots, including Windsor or Pratt knots.
Each node is individual. The instructions and recommendations that we propose to study will improve your image. Will allow you to find uniqueness and elegance. - The narrow part should be located twice as high as the wide one.
- Cross both sides so that the wide half is on top.
- Wrap the wide part once around the narrower part.
- From the inside, insert the wide part above the place where the parts intersect, and bring the product into the ring, which was formed as a result of throwing one part over the second.
After completing these steps, you should give the tie knot the desired shape, as well as adjust the appropriate pressure on the neck.
Rules for tying a Prince Albert knot
As with all other knots used to tie ties, for Prince Albert there are instructions to help you do it quickly and efficiently.
Step by step instructions in pictures
Take the tie with the inside facing you, with the seams inward, so that the wide end is on the right and the narrow end on the left. Take the end of the narrow side and place it at a level slightly above the navel. The size will vary due to different heights, as well as the thickness and width of the product.
Place the wide side of the accessory on top of the narrow side, as if making a crosshair.
Wrap the narrow side with the same end of the product, moving from left to right.
Move the wide end horizontally from right to left, thus forming the front side of the tie.
The action must be repeated and wrap the wide side again, but placing it slightly lower than the first wrap.
Carefully pull the wide end towards the neck, thread it under the resulting collar.
On the front side of the completed bundle, pass through the loop formed in step 5.
Wide end, carefully pull down, gradually tightening.
Adjust the knot so that it is evenly positioned in the collar.

Women are amazing creatures. If they want something, they will take it, even if it used to belong to men. This is how a man’s accessory – a tie – did not go unnoticed. Today it cannot be said that a tie is an element of an exclusively men’s wardrobe, because it also feels great in a woman’s arsenal, helping us in creating a strict and businesslike image. In this regard, many fashionistas are faced with the question of how to tie a women's tie? Indeed, today there are so many different techniques that it is simply impossible to master them all. We invite you to find out some of the most fashionable and common methods.
How to tie a women's tie correctly?
If a woman wants to look fashionable and stylish, then she should have several ties in her wardrobe, since with their help you can create not only business looks, but also glamorous ones. Also, when going to an important event or holiday, you can choose a stylish tie to complement your outfit.
So, to create a business look, you can wear a women's shirt with a tie and classic straight-cut trousers. To tie a tie, place it around your neck, take the wide side of the tie and wrap it around the narrow side twice. Then, using the wide end from the inside, place the wide end into the loop at the base of the neck and insert it into the loop that was created when wrapping the narrow part of the tie. Finally, holding the narrow side of the tie, move the resulting knot towards the collar of the shirt.
Another very beautiful option for tying a women's tie is a bow. To do this you will need a narrow tie with equal ends. For example, it could be a “Bat” or “Distel” tie. Throw it over your neck. Then fold one side in half, and wrap the other side of the tie around the middle of the first part to make a bow. After wrapping the bow once, fold the wide end in half and then insert it into the resulting eyelet in the middle of the bow. Distribute the ends of the tie evenly and tighten the knot. You should end up with a neat bow tie.
There are many different options for how to tie a women's tie beautifully, but to make it easier for you, we suggest looking at a photo gallery that shows in detail how to tie women's ties correctly.
ELLE - about tricks with a women's accessory that has returned to fashion
Recently, on the catwalks you can increasingly see models wearing ties - a traditional attribute of men's fashion this season is making its triumphant return to the women's wardrobe. Few people know how to handle a tie. How to tie a woman's tie - in ELLE's autumn review.
Women can breathe easy: unlike men, the rules for tying a tie are not so strict for them. And women can wear ties with anything and anytime: over a casual T-shirt with jeans, or with an evening dress. Women's ties can be tied simply in a cross or wrapped around twice for a flirty effect. In this case, instead of classic tie models, it is best to use thick silk scarves and scarves. Perhaps we can learn from Victoria Beckham here: she knows exactly how to tie a woman’s tie correctly. Victoria's satin ties work better than other stars. Her most spectacular appearance in a tie was a fitted trouser suit, the jacket of which was worn on a naked body along with a narrow tie. After all, the main fashion secret of a strong woman is a healthy sense of self-irony and self-confidence. However, there are two men's tie knots that are considered the most popular among women.
How to do
Branded items cost a lot of money, but mass production also reaches a significant price category in retail sales. People who are prone to self-realization and creative processes can make their own fashion accessory. There are no special secrets on how to tie a tie. It is enough to master one of the techniques, be able to crochet or knit, use any skein or remnants of homogeneous yarn.
Use your own creative potential, watch video tutorials or master classes posted as manufacturing instructions from folk craftsmen.
What you need
Making a sought-after piece of men's clothing requires the usual triad essential to the craft process: yarn, a basic tool, and the skill of the maker. The first two components are variable, but the lack of the latter is also not an obstacle, it is not innate, skills are acquired in the process of work. The choice of tool - crocheted or knitted, with threads - an unlimited number of options: from thick wool yarn and delicate cashmere, to silk and cotton thread.
In order to knit a tie you will need: thread, knitting needles or hook, knitting pattern.
You can find a suitable scheme based on resources, tools and individual product parameters. Much in the choice depends on the thickness and texture of the yarn, the desire to make an accessory with a pattern or a plain color. Sometimes it is enough to choose a beautiful pattern to get an aesthetic visualization, but the simple ability to knit in stockinette stitch is enough to ensure that a man is equipped in accordance with the fashion trend.
Step-by-step description of production
You can knit it with crochet or knitting using a combined option, the main condition for success is the correct pattern, its scrupulous observance and the diligence of the craftswoman (loops and rows must be neat and uniform). A version of the original model made of yarn in three colors is given below. Even novice needlewomen can do it, since it is done in garter stitch (in any row, all stitches are only knit stitches):
- Having cast 25 loops, knit a square (length and width are equal);
- starting from this stage, the narrowing of the web begins (one loop is removed in the middle every 7 cm);
- it is appropriate to change the first color to the second at the same stage of narrowing and knit 18-20 cm;
- starting to complete the second rectangle means the need to remove one loop every 4.5 cm;
- the third begins with the second, knitting takes place in symmetrical alternation, 10 rows of each tone - minus one loop in every fifth.
Knitted ties are an extensive product category, the production of which is carried out by leading designers, mass brands, manufacturers from different countries and amateurs of independent creativity.
Even in such a simple model, there can be many options for skilled hands: instead of needles No. 2, use a crochet hook, knit strokes from short threads, fastening the ends of the thread from the wrong side of the product, knit on the bias, with symmetrical stripes of each color from the very beginning. You can trim a plain bottom with an even strip of a contrasting color. This practice is common in the work of famous brands.
Selection of design and material
An elastic tie can be made from a variety of materials. Traditionally, cotton, linen, silk, fine wool, satin, and mixed fabric are used. The main material is duplicated with non-woven fabric. It gives the product the required shape. Jacquard silk is popular - an elegant fabric with a pattern. A regatta made from it looks more impressive than a plain one, at the same time it is practical, since this material is very wear-resistant.
The elastic or braid is made of thick suiting fabric that can withstand frequent stretching. It should match the color and texture of the base material. In order for the elastic to last as long as possible, it must be adjustable in length.
Ties with an elastic band or clasp can be plain: black, light, different shades of green, gray, blue. Models with a cage pattern, geometric patterns, and ornaments are popular. Custom-made products may contain logos of an organization or educational institution.
For a school-age child, you can choose an accessory with a fastener, such as a button. For a small boy, products with an elastic band or a rim are more convenient. If we talk about how to tie a child’s tie correctly, there is nothing complicated here - it is put on exactly the same as an adult’s.
General wearing rules
When choosing a bright wardrobe item, give preference to heavy, weighty accessories, which consist of six to seven layers of silk, three stripes with an inner insert of draped fabric, wrapped in wool or satin. In order for the knot to be convex and maintain volume and a wide shape, it is necessary to buy multi-layered neck elements of the suit. A tie with a loose structure is sewn from grenadine, a specially woven silk. They go well with a tweed jacket with a printed pattern made from natural dyes on gum arabic silk. A stripe on the fabric running from the right shoulder to the left - the American business format looks great with a herringbone suit or a plain colored blazer.
- A tightly tied small knot fits a narrow collar of clothing with a sleeve; a wide model will ruin the appearance.
- The size of the hem of the fashionable element of the set corresponds to the width of the lapel of the jacket. If the size of the wide flap is not enough, folded lapels look bulky.
- Maintain a contrast between the background fabric of the shirt with sleeves and the accessory. The optimal combination is a light shirt and a dark tie. The pattern of the neck model is chosen to be more saturated than the fabric of the shirt. The main detail of the costume repeats the geometry of the material in a darker and enlarged version so that the patterns do not merge into one whole. You can wear a tie with a dark-colored shirt and long sleeves - the combination with light options suits a casual style.
- You cannot match stylish wardrobe pieces of the same shade with a pocket square. Clothing models should differ in geometry or color. A white scarf wrapped over a pocket in a narrow stripe in the “presidential” style is considered universal.
- The knot should match the shape of the face. The convex option suits a rounded outline, with a protruding forehead and lush cheeks. Protruding cheekbones and a clearly defined jawline require strict edging of the knot, linearity and other geometry. The knot should mirror the oval of the face, then harmony will be felt in the image.
