The choice of how to hang curtains can be influenced by many factors. In order for the curtains to look beautiful and add elegance and charm to the entire interior, it is necessary not only to carefully select the shape and fabric, but also to monitor what the curtains will hang on, as well as what accessories will decorate them. Before hanging canvases, you should carefully familiarize yourself with all possible mounting options. The appearance of the curtains and their service life will depend on this. In this article we will look at the question of how to hang curtains on a curtain rod with rings, and what other fastener options exist.

Rings for curtains - like a story curtains on rings and eyelets

Curtain rings perform the function of attaching the curtain to the curtain rod.
Curtains are an integral part of the interior of the apartment. The variety of such systems is so great that everyone can find the optimal solution that can complement the design of the room. Moreover, if we are talking about traditional fabric canvases, then their installation is impossible without the use of a special cornice, which bears the entire weight of the product. However, the question arises of how to hang such canvases, and the answer is quite simple and points to a curtain hook. It is this insignificant detail that will attach the curtains to the cornice, making the interior more colorful and laconic.

Types of cornice structures

To choose the right cornice, consider the following factors:

  • Multilayer textiles, the presence of lambrequins.
  • Curtain weight.
  • Method of installation of cornice structure.

In this case, the curtains can be night curtains - to create a comfortable atmosphere for relaxation, and decorative ones - to decorate the room.

If you plan to decorate the window with curtains, tulle and lambrequins, purchase a three-row design. If you plan to hang only tulle and curtains on the window, then the cornice should be two stripes.

According to the method of fastening, the designs are:

  • Ceiling
  • Wall mounted

Curtain fastening systems: eyelets and rings

Today, there are several types of fasteners for installing curtains, differing in their appearance and characteristics. The most popular among them are the following products, which are highly practical and can significantly simplify the operation of curtains. They look like this:

It is these two types of systems that are the most practical and functional, and their use provides many advantages. Eyelets are a special type of fastener that borders the edges of holes previously made in curtains. This solution not only ensures reliable fixation of the canvas, but also guarantees smooth sliding, which is determined by the location of the curtain rod.

In turn, curtains with rings are fixed according to a different principle, which consists in hanging the moving elements directly on the cornice and connecting them to the canvas using clamps. As a rule, to ensure such qualities, a special tape is attached to the curtain, providing reliable fixation and preventing damage to the fabric.

Eyelets and rings can be made of plastic, wood or metal. At the same time, there are many options for finishing such products, differing in their shape, texture, shades and the presence of decorative elements. In general, curtains with rings give a more complete look and highlight the existing interior.

The advantages of such systems over other, simpler designs are obvious and are as follows:

  • reliability;
  • practicality;
  • durability;
  • ease of installation;
  • corrosion resistance;
  • ease of use.

The above qualities at their best highlight the versatility of similar products. To install them, you absolutely do not need any technical knowledge or practical skills. You can do the installation yourself in just a few minutes, and the result is simply magnificent.

Clips and clamps

Clips and clamps are universal fasteners for curtains. In order to hang the curtain with clips, you will not need to sew on ribbon or loops. Often such fittings are made with decorative inserts and can be used as an independent element of room decoration.

The clips are very easy to use. To remove the curtain for washing, simply release the clamp and remove the fabric.

The disadvantage of this type of fastening is the slight noise that appears when the device moves along the cornice, and the inability to use heavy, bulky curtains for hanging.

How to hang curtains on a cornice using rings

Hanging curtains on rings or grommets with your own hands is not that difficult. The only difficulty in the installation process may be the installation of the cornice, and securing the panels themselves will not be difficult. In general, the installation procedure for curtains consists of the following steps:

  • collecting tools;
  • wall marking;
  • securing the cornice;
  • preparation of canvases;
  • hanging curtains

As we can see from the above criteria, hanging curtains on a cornice using eyelets or rings is not difficult. However, this process requires a responsible approach and painstaking work, otherwise the result of the efforts is unlikely to satisfy the person.

Initially, you need to determine the exact location where the curtains will be hung. It goes without saying that this will be a window or doorway. As a rule, the location of the cornice is selected based on the length of the canvases and in accordance with the existing interior. Once the location has been determined, you can begin marking, but first you need to collect all the tools that will be useful in the work. Their list is as follows:

Timely preparation of tools will make it possible to significantly reduce the time of work and optimize it. In this case, special attention should be paid to the presence of scissors and a knife, since these two devices are useful for preparing curtains.

How to hang a curtain rod with rings

Marking the wall is the first stage, the implementation of which is associated with special responsibility and is of enormous importance. This is due to the fact that the correct placement of the cornice largely depends on the quality of the markings and its accuracy. Therefore, it must be carried out clearly by level or using a plumb line. After this, you can proceed to fixing the cornice itself, which is done by screwing the holding posts to the wall.

As a rule, a standard design device has two holding elements, which bear the entire load. Next, the pipe itself is attached to them, and its ends are closed with plugs. In this form, the cornice is completely ready and can be used for its intended purpose.

The next stage is the preparation of the canvases, which has different directions depending on the chosen type of fixation. Thus, a cornice with hinged type rings requires additional stitching of the fabric panels using a special tape. It is she who will hold the curtain and prevent its damage, and also create a beautiful drapery. As a rule, the tape is sewn from the back side so that the fabric can be freely attached to the rings.

In turn, in the case of eyelets, the canvas requires more serious preparation, which consists of making wide holes. Subsequently, a guide will be threaded through them, and to ensure smooth movement they are covered with special rings. The biggest difference between eyelets and all other fastening systems is the fact that the rings are inserted inside the fabric, filling holes and preventing the formation of arrows. If in the first case with rings a special braid is sewn onto the curtain, then in the situation with eyelets there is a special fastener that allows them to seamlessly merge with the fabric. For a more durable fastening, grommet tape is also used. To top it off, you need to hang the curtains on the curtain rod by hanging rings on it or threading a pipe through the grommets.

As you can see, using rings for curtain rods provides a lot of advantages, from high practicality to ease of installation. At the same time, assembling your own cornice and hanging curtains on it will not be difficult. In turn, the rings themselves perform not only a holding function, but also play the role of decoration, complementing the composition and detailing the interior.

Main characteristics of curtain rod rings

The popularity of curtain rod rings is explained by the fact that:

  • They allow the curtains to hang in uneven, beautiful folds, creating a special charm and color in the room, filling it with comfort.
  • They favorably emphasize the beauty of curtain fabric. Most often, this accessory uses lightweight materials that sway freely in a slight breeze, creating the illusion of spaciousness and airiness in the room. An example of decorating a hall with a wooden cornice with rings can be seen in the photo.
  • Curtains on such a mount easily slide along the curtain rod, ensuring the simplicity and functionality of the model.

Form

Rings for curtain rods are available in various shapes. They can be:

  • round or oval;
  • square or rectangular;
  • triangular, harmonizing well with the interior in a modern style.

Creating a cozy interior: how to hang curtains

Curtains are a simple and integral part of almost any interior. In addition to the main protective function from sunlight, they also perform aesthetic purposes. With the help of perfectly selected curtains, your home or apartment can be transformed significantly and become an island of comfort and harmony in the concrete jungle of a modern metropolis.

The question of how to hang curtains correctly plagues everyone who has decided to make repairs or change the decor in their home. You shouldn’t run to the store and, succumbing to a momentary impulse, buy the first material you like. In order for your purchase to fit into your interior, first of all, you should study how to hang a curtain rod correctly, what types of fasteners are available, and what curtains are suitable for a particular room.

You can hang the curtains yourself, or you can entrust this task to specialists. Specialized salons always have a fabric designer who will select the appropriate material for your bedroom, kitchen or living room.

If you decide to plunge headlong into renovations, be sure to have time, patience and inspiration!

Choosing a cornice: types and features

Cornices are available for ceiling and wall. Ceiling curtain rods visually increase the space, so they are recommended for rooms with low ceilings and small areas. This option will look great in a small bedroom, children's room or miniature kitchen. A wall cornice can be installed in a room with large full-wall windows.

There are several options for how to hang a ceiling cornice. If you plan to use tulle and curtains made of light fabrics (organza, cotton, synthetics), then you can screw it on using butterfly dowels. For dense, heavy fabrics, it is better to use more durable materials.

The material from which the cornices are made is no less important. They can be metal, wood, plastic or even forged:

  • Wooden. For such cornices, durable noble wood is used, such as walnut, oak or beech. The color of the cornice should be in harmony with the decor of the room and not stand out against the general background. Wooden cornices can be easily attached to both regular and suspended ceilings.
  • Plastic. It is difficult to find a material more economical than plastic, so if you are limited in finances, then a plastic cornice is an excellent solution. For a small fee, it will last a long time without deforming and maintaining its original appearance.
  • Metal. The metal cornice is universal. You don’t have to be afraid to hang thick pleated curtains or heavy double curtains on it. He can easily cope with such weight, but tulle curtains will look airy and modern on him.

Curtain mount: the most popular varieties

There are several types of curtain mounts. Some attach only to certain curtain rods, others are more universal. Interior designers most often advise choosing the following fasteners:

  • Rings. Used together with metal or wooden cornices. In this case, the curtains are attached to rings and placed on the cornice. They are easy to take off and put on, which is important if you want to remove and wash the curtains.
  • Eyelets. Curtains are attached to the cornice using eyelets. Here the rings are inside the fabric. They are located at the same distance from each other. Thanks to them, beautiful symmetrical folds are formed.
  • Hooks. Convenient and beautiful option. The hook clings to a special recess in the fabric and is attached to the cornice. The hooks are located on a special tape made of synthetic fabric. Curtains with ribbon look very stylish and fit into any interior.
  • Clamps. Clips help adjust the length of curtains. You can also use them to create additional folds and flounces.

The choice of fastening should be approached with all responsibility. Since curtains, for example, with eyelets, it will be problematic to replace them with hooks or clips.

How to decorate custom windows?

In apartments or houses, it is not uncommon to find windows of different shapes that differ from the usual rectangle. Panoramic openings are popular at the moment, and if the option with traditional sliding curtains does not appeal to you, you should pay attention to hourglass-shaped tulle. It is suitable for both inclined and straight windows. Using tulle that is installed in this way, you can even decorate a door, since they will be attached directly next to the doors on specialized cornices. Triangular windows are usually decorated with pleated blinds. This type is called so because it is a canvas made of specially treated fabric, which is pressed in the form of an accordion. Pleated blinds can be laid in any shape, including like a fan. They are secured with double-sided tape.

We looked at options for attaching curtains to the cornice, but to decorate semicircular window openings, they use more than just arched cornices. Curtains that are attached to a simple wall cornice will look beautiful. In this case, the cornice can be installed both above and below the curved edge. The design option looks interesting when the curtains are secured with a forged cornice. When framing windows, if the openings are taller than a person’s height, the fastening design includes a pointer for moving the curtains. Using it you can easily and without problems close the curtains without tugging at the curtains. This is a very convenient device, and the pointer can be hidden behind the curtain without any problems, and if necessary, taken out again. You will learn how to properly hang curtains on tape from the video.

Alternative to classic curtains: Roman blinds, muslin, pleated curtains

Roman or roller blinds have become a part of our lives. They challenged classic curtains and became their main competitor. A Roman blind is a cornice with a fabric panel attached to it. Thanks to the control rods, you can adjust the length, allowing access to sunlight, or, conversely, protecting it from the penetration of rays. Roller blinds are a fabric analogue of blinds, which are also very popular in our country.

Roller blinds are most often installed in the kitchen or bathrooms, where the use of conventional curtains is inconvenient and inappropriate. For the bathroom and dining room, you should choose a water-repellent material that is easy to clean. It should also be sufficiently wear-resistant.

In modern apartments, plastic windows are installed almost everywhere, so it is logical that many are interested in how to attach roller blinds to plastic windows. You can attach Roman shades to each sash, to the top of the frame, or to the window opening (on the window). In principle, everyone decides for themselves how to hang roller blinds on plastic windows in their apartment.

If you are interested in the question of whether and how to hang curtains on the balcony, then do not worry. It's not difficult at all. You can hang any type of curtains on the loggia: from roller blinds to classic ones. You can even hang string curtains (muslin) or bamboo curtains, which will block out the bright sun without dimming the daylight. Curtains with muslin are a beautiful option that is suitable for any room and will fit into any interior.

Another well-proven option is pleated curtains. The name speaks for itself. Pleated - curtains made of pleated fabric. In appearance they are similar to roller blinds. The main advantage of pleated fabrics is their versatility. They can be installed on any type of window.

It turned out that attaching the curtains yourself is not so difficult. It is enough to arm yourself with knowledge and confidence that everything will work out!

Attaching curtains to tubular curtain rods

Let me remind you that in tubular cornices, a round or rectangular pipe acts as a supporting structure to which the curtain fabric is attached. It is on this that you will hang the curtains.

In this case, the mounting diagram is as follows:

  • curtain rod rings are put on the curtain rod pipe (the rings are used to move the curtain along the curtain rod pipe)
  • hangers - hooks - are attached to the rings
  • curtains are hung on hooks.

The material for making cornice rings is plastic, wood or metal. As a rule, it depends on the type of cornice.

Hanging hooks are most often made of plastic or metal. Suspensions come in various modifications and, depending on this, are capable of performing different functions.

Hangers in the form of ordinary hooks

Such suspensions will require additional effort from you. To hang a curtain from such a hanger, you will need to sew loops, rings or fastening tape onto its fabric, to which the hook - the hanger - will cling. Loops or rings are sewn at the top of the curtain in increments of 10-15 cm. The fastening tape is sewn to the top of the curtain along the entire width. The tape contains threads for decorative assembly of the curtain and loops for hanging.

The disadvantage of this method of attaching curtains is the need for large-scale sewing work to prepare the curtains in working condition.

Hangers in the form of clothespins

People call them "crocodiles". This type of hanger grabs and firmly holds the curtain fabric with its “teeth” and does not require additional elements for hanging. Clothespin hangers are installed in increments of 15-20 cm. When choosing this type of fastener, models with a metal “crocodile” are preferable. They are more reliable and hold the canvas stronger than plastic models. This is especially true for thick and heavy curtains.

Attaching curtains to a tubular cornice with eyelets

Eyelet is a type of sewing accessory. It serves to strengthen the edges of the holes made in the curtain fabric for the purpose of further using these holes to thread a curtain rod or curtain rod through them.

The mounting diagram for eyelets is as follows:

  • Eyelets are installed at the top of the curtains in increments of 15-20 cm.
  • Then a cornice pipe is threaded through them
  • The pipe is fixed in the cornice mount

The eyelet consists of two parts - a ring and a mating part - a bushing, it is also called a “block”. A sleeve is inserted into a hole punched in the fabric on one side, and on the other side this sleeve is fixed with a ring. As a result of fixation, the eyelet is tightly held on the fabric.

Eyelets are recommended to be used for types of curtains made of thick fabric. On light curtains it can wrinkle the fabric.

The shape of eyelets can be round, rectangular, triangular and even curly.

The eyelet has two main sizes

  • external size, for example, for a round grommet this is the external diameter
  • internal size, for example, for a rectangular eyelet these are the dimensions of the internal rectangle

When purchasing a grommet, be sure to consider its internal size. It should be 1-2 cm larger than the cross-section of the cornice pipe. Then the curtain fabric with eyelets will easily move along the curtain rod pipe.

An interesting option for combining eyelets and Velcro. The upper part of the curtain consists of a strip that contains eyelets at the top and Velcro along the entire width at the bottom. The main curtain also contains Velcro at the top.

The disadvantages of attaching them to grommets are that installing them will require a certain skill and, in addition to this, a special hole puncher. Without this, it is not very easy to install the eyelets carefully yourself, but it is possible.

Rings

A very simple and functional way to hang from a cornice are metal and wooden rings. They differ from eyelets in that they are located not inside the canvas, but outside. Rings can only be used for round curtain rods.

The curtain is attached to the ring in different ways:

  • using hooks, one end of which is sewn to the canvas, and the other clings to the ring;
  • sewn to rings;
  • hung using curtain tape and curtain hooks.

Such curtains move easily along the cornice, although they make a little noise. The fastenings are strong and wear-resistant, curtains can be made of any type of material. They are easy to fit into beautiful tails, and sewing such textiles does not require professional skills.

Attaching curtains to a string cornice

Let me remind you that in string cornices, a string made of metal or elastic PVC acts as a load-bearing element. But it is still preferable to use a metal string, since PVC can stretch over time and the curtain will sag.

In fact, attaching curtains to string curtain rods is not much different from the options for attaching curtains to tubular curtain rods.

In string curtain rods, the curtain can be secured to rings with hooks, hangers of all types, to eyelets, to loops and to a drawstring. All these methods of attaching curtains are described above.

Perhaps
the most significant difference is that the diameter of the string is significantly smaller than the diameter of the supporting pipe.
Therefore, consider this point when choosing the sizes of rings, hooks, eyelets and loops. You should not choose them too large. It is desirable that all elements are proportional to the diameter of the string. The photo shows examples of attaching curtains to a string cornice.

Drawstrings - interesting and silent

A drawstring is a type of fastening that does not require any additional accessories other than the curtain itself. It is enough to wrap the fabric on one side and stitch it so that a pocket is formed for the cornice. It can also be a separate strip of fabric sewn along the top of the curtain. Such curtains fit well into a romantic, ethnic or rustic style. They simplify the interior. Therefore, if you want elegance, then you should not choose curtains with a drawstring.

The advantage of this fastening is that it is silent, so if you are very sensitive to sounds, feel free to choose a drawstring. The downside is that such curtains can be difficult to remove for washing. In addition, the drawstring is not suitable for curtain rods that are too voluminous.

Fastening curtains to curtain rods with guide profiles

In these cornices, fastening elements for hanging curtains are attached to the cornice profiles. In most cases these are hanging hooks.

To attach curtains to hanger hooks, you can

  • Sew rings or loops of cord along the top of the curtain. The diameter of the rings and loops should be slightly larger than the thickness of the hanger hook, then the curtains will hang on the hangers more confidently.
  • Sew a mounting tape that contains loops for mounting and secure the curtain rod hooks to these loops.

Ceiling cornice

Today, the most common type of cornices is the ceiling structure. The kit usually includes the screws and dowels required for mounting. Installation of the cornice is carried out with these elements along the edges of the structure. If you plan to use several layers of curtains, then the fastening is duplicated in the middle part of the cornice. Note that the fasteners in no way interfere with the unhindered movement of the curtains, so for reliability the structure can be secured with several more dowels. After completing the installation work, they proceed to hanging tulle and curtains.

Attaching curtains to the cornice: types and methods

The purchase and installation of a new cornice usually has nothing to do with the process of selecting curtains, curtains or drapes. Only after attaching the baguette, having finally decided on the pattern, texture and size of the fabric, does it become time to master the curtain fastening proposed by the manufacturer. And it’s not always possible to hang the curtains the way you would like the first time.

Very long curtains are fastened with sewn-in hooks and hangers.

How are curtains attached in modern interiors?

Much depends on the design, ceiling finish and window opening. If you do not take into account new-fangled blinds and roller screens, then the only reliable option is the classic cornice with a single-row or double-row suspension system. It will be a discovery for many, but the methods of attaching curtains have remained virtually unchanged over the past half century.

A good option for hanging curtains for a country house

Depending on the location of the cornice installation, on the ceiling, above a window or in a ceiling niche, there are three main types of curtain fastening:

  • Rod or slatted baguettes on cantilever or hanging brackets;
  • Rail curtain rods with sliding hangers used to hold curtains;
  • String designs are used exclusively for lightweight fabrics.

Bearing brackets and runners are made of anodized steel, often aluminum, less often hardwood. The body and decorative trim can be wooden, like classic baguettes, or plastic, like cheaper models.

The classic option for installing cornices on plugs

Despite the seemingly small weight of curtains, polymer parts, usually PVC or polycarbonate, quickly deform, cracks appear, and as a result, the fastening fails.

Installation of thin-walled box-shaped cornices made of galvanized steel, PVC or aluminum on a wall or ceiling is carried out by installing fasteners along the entire length of the body.

Wall mounts for curtains

The most common option is considered to be mounting on horizontal cantilever brackets. This method is good because the pipe or baguette can be installed above almost any window opening. In this case, the fabric sheet is attached to one or two horizontal rods, placed in clamps at the ends of the brackets.

Metal structures are the most durable

It is not necessary to use a split lath or thin-walled metal pipes as the main supporting element. In the author's design options for a cornice bracket, for example, a wooden slat can be used instead of a pipe, and rectangular brackets can be used as suspension elements.

If the cornice is made in the form of a rosewood baguette, then the functions of the bracket are performed by the side walls of the box, the curtains themselves are mounted on slats or strings laid inside the wooden body.

For light curtains, instead of a rod or pipe, strings stretched between two cantilever mounts, as in the photo, can be used.

Attaching curtains to the ceiling

Sometimes designers refuse the wall method of fastening the cornice, considering it outdated and not meeting the requirements of modern interiors; less often, this method is chosen for technical reasons. In any case, attaching fabric to the ceiling looks more elegant, although it is not always quite convenient.

The most common installation option is to simply move the bracket from the wall to the ceiling, as a result it becomes possible to move away from the plane of the window opening to any arbitrary distance. In this case, the curtains are attached to the ceiling cornice using rings or T-shaped hangers.

Classic version

The most common and simplest way to secure fabric is with hooks and rings. The hook is hooked on one side to the panel, and the second part is attached to a ring that slides freely along the curtain rod. This type of suspension is suitable for round classic rods and is widely used. However, it is gradually losing relevance, as new models of curtains appear that do not allow the use of rings. In addition, this design looks somewhat old-fashioned and boring, and the fastenings make noticeable noise when moving.

What types of curtain fastenings are there?

Correctly choosing a more or less suitable version of the cornice is still half the battle. Often you have to look for a model that not only fits the mounting method, but also fits into the interior of the room.

Of the more than two dozen types and types of fastening curtains to curtain rods, only a few of the simplest ones are used at home:

  • Fastening with clothespins. Today, about half of all curtains and light tulle curtains are installed on a cornice;
  • Ties made from fabric ribbons are considered the easiest and fastest way to secure the fabric to the bar;
  • Using the cornice pocket, the thinnest and softest fabrics are hung;
  • Using a drawstring;
  • Hanging fabrics on rings and eyelets.

Of all the options given, the last one is considered the most reliable and easy to use. Eyelets are ring elements sealed into fabric using a special mandrel and clamps. As a result, the distance between the attachment point and the rod is reduced to a minimum, and the curtains themselves can be assembled along the cornice with almost no special effort.

One of the best mounting options

The second disadvantage is that such fastening is disposable; if the ring falls out of the fabric for some reason, replacing it will be quite problematic.

Curtain ties

A simple and quick way to hang a curtain on a tubular curtain rod or baguette. It is clear that for string and rack variants it is difficult to use such a fastening for technical reasons.

The fastening technology comes down to the following:

  • Short, 25-30 cm, strips of the same material as the curtains themselves are sewn along the top edge of the curtain, at least the color and texture should be the same;
  • To hang the panel, ribbons are first tied on one of the edges, then on the opposite side, then in the center and along the remaining free edge.

On average, it takes no more than an hour to hang a curtain, taking into account the time spent on sewing the fastener. It is clear that this type of fastening will look good mainly for light curtains made of natural fabrics.

Safe option for a children's room

Adhesive tape for curtains

Sometimes it is necessary to hang an insulating curtain or curtain on a window opening or to fence off part of the interior of the apartment. In such a situation, the easiest way to use velcro tape for curtains. The material is grabbed to the upper edge of the panel and glued to the cornice or to a regular plastic strip installed on the ceiling.

The fastening turns out to be quite reliable, but with a slight drawback. It will no longer be possible to assemble or move the curtain; in this case, the panel is rolled up and fixed to the ceiling with ties.

Curtain rod tape

In appearance, this type of fastening is a wide strip of synthetic fabric with two or three rows of thick nylon threads sewn in. The tape is sewn to the top edge, and the threads are pulled out in loops every 15-20 cm.

The upper edge under the hooks is hemmed with braid with inserts

The actual fastening is carried out by hanging the panel on hooks or runners using elongated loops. Today, this type of fastening is considered one of the most inconspicuous, especially if there is a need to hide the suspension elements on the cornice.

For a closed suspension, a baguette is best suited

Curtain fasteners in the form of clips

Cornice clothespins or clamps are considered the oldest method of fastening; each such clothespin-clip is equipped with either a hook or a ring.

Suspension with clamps

The fastening is very simple, it is very popular, since the rings are hung on the bar once, and with the help of clips the curtain can be removed and hung back an unlimited number of times, and this is done in just a few minutes.

Magnetic hangers for curtains

A more modern version of mechanical fastening involves the use of magnets. A pair of magnetic plates connected to each other by a polymer loop is thrown onto the cornice rod. The upper edge of the panel rises to the required level and is fixed with stuck together magnetic clips.

This method has a certain advantage: unlike spring clamps, magnets do not damage or tear the fabric. Despite the apparent weakness of the fasteners, the magnetic fastening system quite confidently holds curtains and drapes made of heavy fabric.

Options for attaching curtains to rings

Experts recommend using rings for windows and curtain rods in cases where curtains need to be opened with minimal effort, and the fastening itself must be absolutely reliable and safe.

When compared with runners and fork hangers, and even more so with hinges, it is obvious that the rings provide minimal resistance when opening the curtains. Therefore, such designs are used on cornices in rooms with high window openings. According to some users, rings are ideal for curtains and drapes in children's rooms, as well as on the balcony door.

Unusual design of the drawstring

How to fasten curtains with a drawstring

This type of fastening is a loop of the upper edge of the canvas wrapped around the cornice rod. The drawstring is sewn along the entire length of the cornice and hung above the window opening along with the pipe.

In this way, light window curtains are hung, assembled on both sides of the window opening in two assemblies, or tulle.

Material

The material used to make rings varies. It can coincide with the material of the cornice strip or, on the contrary, differ sharply, for example, when metal rings are put on a wooden cornice.

Cornice rings are usually made from the following materials:

  • Plastic. Many options for fastening rings are made from plastic, both imitating other materials (usually made “like wood”), and with an emphatically plastic structure, which has a wide range of colors and different degrees of transparency. You can hang any curtains of suitable design on them. Depending on the model of the cornice, plastic rings will look appropriate in a nursery, kitchen or living room.
  • Tree. Wooden rings for curtains on cornices will be appropriate in rooms furnished in a classic or antique style. For wooden rings, it is not advisable to take a curtain rod made of another material - they will look stylish only on wooden structures, especially if plain curtains made of noble fabrics are hung on them.
  • Metal. A curtain holder with metal rings can be hung, depending on the model, both in rooms with a modern style and in imitation of antiquity (forged models of holders). You can hang curtains on them using any of the methods below on how to attach curtains to rings.

Accessories for cornices and curtains

It’s not enough to just hang the barbell, tension the string on brackets or ceiling hangers. It is clear that technically such a design will be able to hold the curtain, but the appearance and level of convenience will be far from what is desired. To improve the quality, you have to resort to using some accessories.

Metal curtain holders

When the windows are open, the assembled, shifted and bundled canvas needs to be somehow held in one position. Typically, fabric loops-cords or metal holders, which have recently come into fashion, are used for this.

Essentially, it is a decorative metal hook installed in the corner of a room or on the edge of a window opening. The holder is convenient because it allows you to fix the fabric in literally one movement, and in addition, the device fits very well into the interior of the room.

Universal holder model

Connector for curtain rod

For large window openings of standard length, cornices or baguettes are usually not enough; you have to trim and join two or more spans into one structure. This can be done using a special connector. Depending on the suspension device, connectors can be hidden or external.

In the first case, the device remains hidden inside the body; in the second option, the connector looks like a decorative element of a cornice.

Connectors are widely used on baguettes, in complex corner and broken cornices.

Bronze anodized aluminum tip

Ends for curtain rods

With rare exceptions, decorative attachments at the ends of cornice strips or rods are used in all designs. The design options for the tips can be very different, from simple plastic or wooden balls, cylindrical and faceted shapes, to chrome-plated metal plugs.

For cornice structures stylized as bronze casting, you can find finials in the form of animal heads, with complex ornaments and relief patterns.
