Cutlets can be called one of the most popular dishes, which usually consists of minced meat (fish or meat). They do not have a very long shelf life, and therefore you need to know exactly in what conditions and how to store the cutlets. Today we will talk about how to store this dish chilled, frozen and cooked. This information will allow you to somewhat prolong its freshness and avoid poisoning.

Self-prepared semi-finished products from purchased or store-bought minced meat can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 6-8 hours. To reduce moisture loss, the pieces are wrapped in cling film and placed on the top shelf of the refrigerator. It is advisable that there are no other products on this shelf.

The fact is that there is no clear answer here. The shelf life of fried cutlets will depend on the quality of the minced meat, the timing and temperature of its storage:

  • when using fresh minced meat - 3 - 5 days, subject to storage in the refrigerator (at +1°C -+5°C);
  • from chilled minced meat - no more than three days at the same temperature;
  • from frozen minced meat – up to one week, at a temperature of 0°C -+6°C.

How long finished minced meat products are stored depends on the conditions in which it was kept and for how long. And also what was its original quality.

Storing cutlets in plastic bags in the refrigerator is acceptable. But it is better to make small holes in the bags for air circulation. In this case, the products will remain suitable for consumption for 7–10 days.

How to store fish cutlets

The shelf life of the product depends on the freshness of the minced meat. It is not advisable to freeze fish cutlets, as they are a highly perishable product. However, if this cannot be avoided, then you need to keep it in the freezer for no more than three months, ideally two.

In the refrigerator, semi-finished fish products will remain fresh for 6 hours, but if they are vacuum-packed, they can be kept for up to a day. The product is kept on the top shelf and temperature changes are not allowed.

In order for such semi-finished products to be better preserved, they are placed in a certain container:

  • a plastic container with a lid;
  • plastic bag;
  • enamel dishes covered with film;
  • food foil.

Storing cutlets in the freezer should occur at a temperature no higher than -18°C. The shelf life of this product when frozen is 2 – 3 months.

When choosing semi-finished meat products, it is better to give preference to trusted manufacturers and distributors. If the product turns out to be of poor quality, it can cause serious poisoning or intestinal infection.

  • You can store fried cutlets in the refrigerator for no more than 24–36 hours, and at room temperature for up to 6 hours.
  • To increase the shelf life of fried cutlets, they are placed in a ziplock bag or container with a lid and sent to the freezer.
  • Storing fried cutlets in the freezer, subject to freezing rules, can last no more than 2 months.

Signs of spoiled cutlets

Spoiled meat, fish and vegetable products cause upset and food poisoning. It is not recommended to eat missing products, as they contain dangerous bacteria. It is possible to determine the quality and freshness of semi-finished products:

  • by touch - fresh food will be pleasant to the touch, and spoiled food will be slimy;
  • sense of smell - if the products have deteriorated, they will have an unpleasant odor;
  • checking the labeling - if store-bought products have expired, they cannot be used for food;
  • studying color - if semi-finished products have yellow, green, gray inclusions, this indicates the beginning of their rotting or deterioration.

If any of the indicated signs are detected, this indicates the impossibility of eating cutlets. They must be disposed of. Otherwise, severe poisoning is possible.

The shelf life of cutlets differs depending on the type of ingredient used, the presence or absence of oven treatment. Refrigerated delicacies do not keep for more than a day.
