How to properly deflate and inflate an air mattress without a pump

Today, many people increasingly have air mattresses. They are easy to use and can help in various situations, for example, at home it can replace a sleeping place, in nature it is a great opportunity to relax with your loved ones, and at sea the mattress can be used as a swimming device. In addition, it takes up very little space when folded.

Instructions for air beds with a built-in electric pump.

Thank you for purchasing the Intex air bed. Please take the time to read this manual for using the bed. This information will help you extend the life of the inflatable bed and will allow you to secure any activities related to the bed.

Safety regulations.

Before use, read the instructions and carefully follow all instructions. Children near the bed should always be within the sight of an adult; do not leave children unattended while using the air bed. The bag intended for storing the air bed must be kept out of the reach of children; this bag is not a toy. Do not stand on the air bed or use it as a trampoline. Do not use the bed in or near water, this is not a swim mattress. Do not place the bed near stairs, doors, water, fragile dishes or sharp objects. Make sure that the surface for placing the airbed is flat and smooth, without any sharp objects that could cause a puncture. To avoid damage from pets, keep them away from the air bed. For greater stability, you need to lie not on the edge of the bed, but in its center. Do not use the pump for more than 5 minutes, you need to take a break for 10 - 15 minutes, after use, disconnect the power cord from the network. While the pump is operating, the ventilation duct must remain open and no objects should be allowed into it. If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced either by the service or by a person competent in this field. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not use in the rain. Store indoors.

Accessories.

Components for an air bed with a built-in electric pump.

AC Electrical cord. Switch. Pumping sign. Blowing sign. Air channel. Control wheel. Cord cover. Inflatable bed.

* The pump does not require special maintenance. The bed must be installed close to an outlet.

Pumping up. Remove the power cord from the storage container. See fig. 1. Connect the AC electrical cord to the power source. See fig. 2.

Turn the control wheel to o. See fig. 3. Press "I" to turn on the pump. See fig. 4. After inflating, press “O” to turn off the pump. See fig. 5.

Lie down on the bed and check the firmness. If the surface is too hard, turn the control wheel counterclockwise. The air will begin to bleed through the air channel in the center of the wheel. When the required stiffness is achieved, turn the wheel clockwise. See fig. 7. If the bed needs to be made harder, repeat steps 3 - 7.

After inflating the bed, disconnect the cord from the power source, place it in a storage container and close the lid.

Important note.

Correct inflation of the bed.

The ambient temperature has an internal pressure effect on the air bed. When the temperature is low, the air will compress inside the bed and the bed will become softer, add air as needed. At high temperatures, the air inside the bed will increase significantly in volume, the bed will become hard and may burst. Vent the air to prevent damage to the air bed or to reduce the sensation. Do not expose the bed to extreme temperatures (high or low).

How to deflate a sleeping place correctly

To quickly deflate an air mattress, you will need to adhere to a whole set of requirements.

To begin with, the product is thoroughly wiped, using a soap solution if necessary. Then it is allowed to dry.

After cleaning, simply open all the valves in a special position, and the air begins to escape (in Intex mattresses, the valve is switched to this mode quite simply).

Particular attention is paid to the valves on the mattress through which air is released.

At this time, there is no need to press on the product or otherwise deform it in anticipation of a speedy result. So you risk damaging it.

It is enough to unscrew the plug, after which the mattress deflates itself as quickly as possible.

You can also use a pump, setting it to release mode.

Only special models with low pressure are used, because in this case ideal air removal is ensured without damage to the elastic structure.

As a last resort, the product must be laid out on a flat surface, without dangerous sharp objects, and begin to be carefully rolled up.

The surface should be as flat as possible, because this will eliminate even slight retention of air in the product.

If necessary, rolling can be done several times.

Before sending for storage, we carefully inspect each air mattress for damage and stuck objects.

Obviously, an air mattress can be inflated and deflated without having a pump.

To ensure your air mattress lasts a long time, inflate and deflate it correctly.

And simple operating tips will allow you to use it for a long time.

About air mattresses in general

Guest option . There are actually many more cases when an air mattress can be useful than it might seem. If your home is of modest size and you often have overnight guests, an inflatable mattress is a great help.

For the first time . Some young families, not having the funds to purchase a classic mattress, purchase an inflatable double mattress for the first time. We can’t say that this is a good, budget-friendly, or even more so, optimal option, but some people do it.

Apartment renovation . But a short renovation in the apartment (if necessary, empty it of furniture and continue to live in it) is just a completely justified case to use an air mattress. A vinyl (or PVC) mattress does not absorb dust, is easy to wash and, if necessary, can be easily removed from the floor (by lifting it and placing it against the wall) and moved.

Outdoor activities , trips to a country house or to the country are other options for using inflatable furniture. On such “beds” you can have a good rest in a car, on the floor or in a tent.

Before you start using an inflatable product (in any of the above cases), you need to somehow inflate it. You can lift a swimming mattress with your own lungs. Another thing is a sleeping model of impressive size - high, one and a half or double, several products at once (for all family members). Coping with the task using a pump will be much faster, easier and more efficient.

What is not recommended to do?

First of all, you should not use high-pressure pumps or car compressors for inflation. Otherwise, the product has the potential to simply burst. Do not use a hair dryer, as hot air will only cause harm.

Inflatable models in absolutely all cases require careful handling. Such products will need to be protected from objects with pointed ends. It is not recommended to stand on such products with your feet.

In this case, it is recommended to use pumps whose properties indicate low pressure data. Such devices can be of 3 options:

  • powered by electricity;
  • manual,
  • footed.

If you follow all the tips noted, the mattress will be able to serve for a long time, and the inflation process will not cause inconvenience and take a lot of time.

Instead of a conclusion

As you know, it is better to prevent problems than to solve them later. Therefore, before purchasing air mattresses, you should take care in advance about the process of filling the device with air. Buy only high-quality models that already come with a built-in pump. This option will allow you not to resort to improvised means that can only damage the product.

You can see photos of models with pumps here.

An air mattress is a multi-purpose item. It is used in the apartment and in the country for sleeping, in a tent outdoors, for beach holidays and swimming.

The main advantage of air furniture is that the product can be lowered and put aside. After purchasing the item, the user is faced with the problem of how to inflate and deflate the air mattress. A brief overview will help you understand the basic operating rules and warn you about possible errors during use.

About air mattresses with a built-in pump in particular

The built-in pump, soldered into the mattress shell, is, in principle, a rather convenient device. It, like the external one, can be mechanical or electrical. The main advantage is compactness. The built-in mechanism does not require additional space in the luggage for the item (as is the case with the external option). Such a pump cannot be lost or forgotten in a hurry.

The disadvantages of models with a built-in pump can be considered their higher price (compared to options with an external device) and the impossibility of replacing the mechanism with a more powerful or complex one.

How to inflate Intex using a pump

Intex products have long earned well-deserved popularity among consumers. They are compact, easy to use and quite durable. This accessory can be taken on a trip to the sea during the summer holidays or used in a summer cottage for entertainment or relaxation. Intex is easy to care for, does not require special maintenance during storage, and is also easy to clean and has a high-quality coating.

After making a purchase, you should think about how to inflate an Intex mattress. For this purpose it is easier to use a conventional pump. How to inflate a mattress with a pump? If during the period of use it is possible to ensure uninterrupted access to the electrical network or car, an electric pump will be the best solution, or a foot pump will be required.

The mattress is inflated quite smoothly by connecting the pump tube to the valve. The movements should be made while continuously monitoring the elasticity of the product so that excessive “bloating” does not occur. What makes a foot pump convenient is that it can be taken on the road and does not require constant access to an electrical outlet.

About the types of built-in pumps

There are two main types of pumps: mechanical and electric. Both can be either external or embedded devices. Let's focus on the advantages and disadvantages of the built-in options.

Mechanical

To operate the pump, you need to use the power of muscles - arms or legs. The pump is not as easy to use as an electric one (the pumping process is quite tedious). On the other hand, the “mechanism” is simpler and more reliable. Models with a built-in mechanical pump are more affordable, are less afraid of moisture and do not depend on electricity at all. Inflating such a mattress is not a problem at all in conditions of complete “separation from civilization.”

Reference! Almost any model of mattress with a built-in mechanical pump can also be inflated from a car cigarette lighter.

Electric

An electric pump is capable of inflating a large product in a matter of minutes (as a rule, the inflating time does not exceed 5 minutes). There may be several options for driving the pump. From a 220V network, from a car cigarette lighter, or from batteries.

Mattresses with this type of equipment are more expensive, are quite sensitive to moisture (you cannot swim on a mattress with an electric pump), and are difficult to repair. The biggest problem “far from civilization” is the availability of a power source. Battery-powered models are a risky option, as batteries tend to drain quickly. Mattresses with an electric pump are recommended mainly for home use.

When deciding on the type of mechanism, consider the purpose for which you are mainly buying a mattress. Then the question of how to inflate an air mattress with a built-in pump when there is no electricity nearby will not take you by surprise.

Reference! Swimming models are not equipped with electric pumps.

Common models

Today, the air mattress market represents a large number of models. A common manufacturer is Intex. Proven over the years and providing a wide range of products. The company's products are made of high-quality materials and have affordable prices.

The Intex assortment has the following common models:

  • SupremeAir-flow. Full size single bed with built-in pump and carrying bag. The height of 51 centimeters provides comfort and protects from drafts when sleeping;
  • distinguished by a double longitudinal partition. The bottom layer is the frame, the top layer is the mattress. Weight: 8.1 kilograms. Height 42 centimeters;
  • weight 11.4 kilograms. Height 46 centimeters. Features a velor coating on the entire surface;
  • the headboard and partition provide additional strength and comfort to the structure.

With the right choice of manufacturer and model, an inflatable product will provide a comfortable sleep and save money. The built-in inflator allows you to quickly inflate the bed. Even a child can pump up the bed.to menu

Choosing a mattress with a built-in pump for its intended purpose

The market offers a wide range of inflatable products - mattresses for swimming and hiking, for home sleep and universal ones.

Beach . This includes all models without a flocked cover (exclusively beach) and without any type of built-in pump (usually inflated using lungs). There are also options with a flock coating on the top side, having a height of 12 cm to 25 cm and a built-in mechanical pump. Such models can be considered universal.

Important! Models with a built-in electric pump cannot be used for swimming!

For sleep . This type of mattress is covered with special artificial fiber. As a result, the top side (and sometimes the bottom and sides) becomes velvety. Flock is very pleasant to the touch and holds bed linen well. The height of some models can reach 50 cm. They look like full-fledged beds. Can be equipped with both types of built-in pumps.

How not to inflate a mattress

Do not frequently inflate the inflatable item using vehicle exhaust gases. Once or twice will not affect your health and will not ruin the rubber. Do not overfill the item with air masses; high pressure can damage the internal partitions and material. Check the degree of pumping with your hands; the surface should bend slightly. Do not inflate or use the item on a lumpy, rough surface. Bumps and stones can damage the surface of the item.

What you should know about operation

Like any product, an air mattress requires compliance with operating rules.

  • Firstly, the product is not intended for use at low temperatures. An air mattress is not capable of retaining the heat given off by the sleeper’s body; in itself it is not an effective insulator (against a cold floor or ground); in the cold, the covering material becomes hard and brittle.
  • Secondly, it is important not to overdo it with the degree of rigidity and choose the pressure depending on the body weight of the person who will rest on it. It is not necessary to inflate the product to 100% (but to more than 80% of the total volume of the internal chambers).

Reference! Keep in mind that the first few nights the mattress may deflate slightly in the morning. This is normal and is due to the fact that the product is slightly stretched. In view of this, it should be pumped up for the first few days.

  • Third, check the manufacturer's recommendations regarding maximum loads for the product. Some double models can support weights up to 295 kg. Exceeding factory specifications may result in seam rupture. Repairing such damage is quite problematic.

Properly deflate the mattress after use

Follow the operating instructions:

  • First, clean the item from dirt. Wipe the item on all sides with a cleaning solution (warm water and laundry soap);
  • dry thoroughly. The item must be dry before folding;
  • open the valve, under pressure the air will come out of the frame on its own;
  • use a deflation pump (if available);
  • Gradually roll up the product, squeezing out the remaining air with your hands.

Deflating an air mattress naturally

Open the plug, all the holes that are in the copy. The air will come out naturally. Remove the remaining air masses with your hands. Manufacturers of mattresses Intex, bestway have provided the possibility of natural removal of air from the object.

Deflating an air mattress using a foot pump

It is difficult to release air masses from an inflatable item of large dimensions naturally, using your own physical strength. In this case, a foot pump will do. Algorithm of actions:

  • tightly connect the pump hose to the open hole of the mattress;
  • press it with your foot, creating reverse thrust;
  • air enters the chamber through a hose and exits through the pump.

How to deflate an air mattress with a vacuum cleaner

It is very easy to release air masses with a vacuum cleaner. Connect the valve of the rubber product and the hose of the unit. Turn on the vacuum cleaner, air is systematically pumped into the vacuum cleaner.

Summing up

Air mattresses with a built-in pump have the following advantages.

  1. Relatively low cost. By and large, for relatively little money you get a full-fledged sleeping place for one or two.
  2. Light weight. As a rule, the weight of an inflatable product does not exceed 5.5 kg.
  3. Ease of use. The deflated and packed mattress can be stored in the pantry. If necessary, remove and inflate using a pump. While outdoors, the pump can be used by connecting to the car's cigarette lighter. The presence of a mechanical pump does not tie you “to civilization” at all.

Do not forget about the disadvantages of air mattresses in general and models with a built-in pump in particular.

  1. Low orthopedic properties. Any, even the most advanced air mattress with a built-in electric pump and many air chambers is not able to compete with orthopedic analogues (an alternative to an air mattress is a folding mattress).
  2. Low strength. Relative minus. At home, it is quite difficult to pierce the product, unless an animal bites through it. The risk of damaging a mattress outdoors is much higher. The advantage is that it is also quite easy to repair - using a repair kit.

Features when choosing a product

The modern market offers a wide range of air beds. They differ in color, shape, overall dimensions, material of manufacture, availability of additional accessories and price.

In order not to make a mistake in choosing a product, they not only focus on the price, but study its properties and characteristics, pay attention to the quality, and, if possible, read customer reviews.

What you need to know about an air mattress?

The color range of products is presented in transparent, light and dark tones. When using for swimming in water, it is better to select transparent objects; they allow you to examine the aquatic world. Light shades are suitable for a beach holiday. Direct sunlight is repelled from a light surface and does not lead to overheating. If you buy something for sleeping in an apartment or as an additional bedding for guests, it is recommended to choose dark colors.

According to the number of sleeping places (width), air beds are divided into the following types:

Mattresses with 1 section have low stability and can tip over when the body turns. The height of the product varies between 13-25 cm, the length can be different, so for a comfortable stay, the item must be chosen according to the person’s height.

Inflatable items are made of PVC. There are simpler models, for example, made of smooth material. They are cheap, but the smoothness of the surface helps the bedding roll up consistently. High-quality products are made from expensive PVC or its derivatives, covered with a layer of flock. The top of the mattress becomes velvety, the bed does not slip. The product is easily washed from dirt and adheres hermetically in case of punctures.

An air bed can have headrests and armrests. Some modern models are made in the form of a sofa with high walls for the convenience and comfort of the vacationer. If there are no headrests, the mattresses are equipped with special pillows.

Application

Air mattresses are used for sleeping and swimming.

Products for constant sleep with a height of twenty-two centimeters. The higher the height of the mattress, the more comfortable it will be for sleeping. These air beds are an alternative to stationary beds. Cheaper than fixed beds. The advantage of such devices is the ability to assemble an air mattress at any time and free up space in the room.

This bed is used for an extra bed when guests arrive. When folded, it takes up space like a shoebox, and when inflated, you get a full-fledged single or double mattress.

The mattress is used on the beach. For this purpose, choose models with a height of twelve centimeters. Thanks to the range of sizes, a mattress can be selected for three, two or one person.

User manual

BW products are equipped with operating instructions. It describes in detail how to inflate and deflate the product, and repair it in case of a puncture.

  1. You can inflate the mattress using one of the types of pumps. To do this, the spout of the device must be inserted into the valve and begin inflating. The nozzle must be clean.
  2. To deflate the product, you need to open the valve and press on the fuse with a thin object. Some pumps allow you to not only inflate, but also deflate mattresses, since they have a double valve.
  3. To repair a puncture, you should use a special patch with an adhesive backing. The damaged area must be cleaned of dirt and degreased with alcohol. After complete drying, apply the patch to the problem area and smooth it thoroughly. To inspect. If the air continues to deflate, you can apply a second patch.
  4. During operation, the air bed must be periodically inflated.

Customer Reviews

Customer reviews online vary: some praise Bestway products, while others, on the contrary, criticize them. Positive reviews primarily note the convenience of air mattresses, which perfectly replace a bed. It is comfortable to relax on them even in nature, since the thickness allows you not to feel the stones and uneven ground. The strength of the walls is also an advantage - the brand’s products are not so easily damaged. Bestway mattresses stay inflated all night, which is important. The affordable prices of the models are also noted.

Is it possible to inflate the product on your own?

If an air mattress without a built-in pump appears in the house, then the question immediately begins to arise: how to inflate it without a pump? It is absolutely not necessary to buy special devices to fill the product with air. But a lot depends on the size of the mattress. You can pump up a small model yourself: a single or children's mattress. To do this, the mattress is laid out evenly, the valve opens and with the help of its lungs it is filled with air. It is advisable not to stop the process so that the air does not have time to escape during pauses. This process is not quick, so you will have to spend at least 15 minutes to pump up.

How else can you inflate an air mattress without using a pump? Some craftsmen adapt to do this using improvised means:

  1. The vacuum cleaner can be used as a pump thanks to its reverse function. The nozzle is attached to the valve and the vacuum cleaner turns on. Even if the sizes of the nozzle and the valve do not match, this will not interfere with inflating the product.
  1. The hair dryer can be used for its intended purpose and as a pump. It is necessary to place the hairdryer so that the air from it falls directly into the open valve and in this position you need to secure it with tape. Be sure to change the setting on the hairdryer from hot to cold, otherwise you may damage the inflatable product. In this way, filling the mattress with air will take some time, but it will still be faster than pumping it up using only the efforts of your lungs.
  1. The most unconventional and controversial way is using a garbage bag. This way you can inflate in nature, when there are no other means at hand. Take a clean, tight garbage bag and blow air into it, fixing it at the end. After which it is brought to the valve and connected to it. Now you can press on the bag and thus air will get into the mattress. You will have to repeat these steps many times to completely fill the mattress with air.
