How to stretch new shoes: quick ways

Take these tips into account:

  1. Try not to go outside in new clothes right away; in most cases, calluses on your feet are guaranteed. First, try wearing tight shoes or boots around the house for several hours a day. When your feet feel comfortable, you can confidently go for a walk or to work.
  2. If the first method does not give a positive result so that the shoes do not pinch your fingers, take them to a workshop. The master will stretch them to the desired size in a few minutes.
  3. For quick results, you can use special “stretchers” - sprays and foams. You can buy them at shoe or hardware stores and use them at home. To quickly break in new shoes, apply spray or foam to areas where you feel discomfort.

Stretching leather shoes using freezing and boiling water

It is much easier to stretch shoes made of genuine leather than those made of other materials. Natural leather, under the aggressive influence of various external factors, is subject to stretching both in length and width. To slightly adjust your shoe size, wet a thick wool sock and wear it with your shoes. Wear a pair for two to three hours a day. However, this is not a very fast method, as it will take seven to ten days.

To stretch leather boots at home, boiling water is often used. Pour hot water into boots or shoes and pour them out immediately. When the items have cooled slightly, put the pair on a thick, thick wool or knitted sock and walk until it is completely dry. If you are afraid of pouring boiling water inside your shoes, you can hold the pair over boiling water and then take it in.

Freezing is an extreme but effective method. Fill two plastic bags half or 1/4 full with water, tie tightly and place inside each shoe. The shoes are then placed in the freezer overnight. When water freezes, it expands and increases in volume. As a result, this puts a lot of pressure on the skin and stretches the material.

You can put one bag in the area that is pinching, or put a bag in both the heel and toe. And if you need to stretch the boot top, put another bag in this place and zip up the boot. After the procedure, remove the shoes from the freezer, wait until the water melts a little, and remove the bags. Dry your shoes, sneakers or boots thoroughly in natural conditions.

How to wear shoes made from genuine leather

Use these proven options:

  1. Use alcohol or any alcohol-containing product to treat the inside of the product in places where there is pressure on your legs. Put on thick socks and walk around the apartment for several hours in a row in the shoes you want to increase in size. This home method allows you to noticeably stretch leather shoes not only in length, but also to stretch them in volume so as not to sting your toes.
  2. A simple and affordable remedy is hot steam. Hold your shoes over the kettle spout until steam begins to condense on the surface of your skin. Wear uncomfortable sneakers or shoes for a couple of hours with thick socks on your feet. The method helps to first soften the material a little to make it easier to stretch tight shoes made of genuine leather.
  3. The technology can only be used for products made from high-quality soft leather. It's not just cramped conditions that can cause your feet to suffer. The hardness of the raw material also causes discomfort and causes calluses. Try bending your shoes up and down several times in a row and twisting them in different directions. High-quality material will not leave creases, but it will become much softer.

Winter care for nubuck

In winter, nubuck needs more protection. It’s not only wet around here, the roads are treated with salt solutions and more. All this negatively affects nubuck products. To do this, shoes are pre-treated with a waterproof spray.

If salt stains have formed, be sure to treat them with cosmetics or folk remedies. Be sure to read the instructions before use.

Special compounds for stretching suede shoes

If you have boots made of suede that feel too tight on your toes, try expanding them so they don't sit idle in your wardrobe using these simple, proven methods:

  1. At home, you can break in tight suede shoes using steam. This method allows you to increase your shoes by about a size. Hold them over the steam so that the suede warms up well, but do not let the leather get too wet. Put on tight socks and wear until dry.
  2. To stretch the top of suede boots, moisten the outside of the material with a weak solution of vinegar. Put them on and walk around the house until the suede dries.
  3. Suede boots that squeeze the leg at the top can be expanded using an iron and a flannel napkin. Unfasten them, lay them out on the ironing board, place a damp flannel cloth on top, and iron them well.

Effective ways

To stretch your favorite pair, you can use the means at hand, as well as special compounds that are sold in online markets and stores. Which method will be most effective depends on the material. It is important to choose the right product so as not to spoil your shoes or cause cracks and other defects.

Available means

Effective and simple means:

  • castor oil - Vaseline also copes well with the task. One remedy can be replaced by another. Shoes must be treated with the selected composition both outside and inside. Castor oil should be applied in a thin layer. Then put the shoes on your bare feet and walk for 15–20 minutes;
  • alcohol - you need to soak a cotton pad or bandage with it and carefully treat your favorite pair inside and out. Then put on a thin sock and shoes. Walk around in them until they are completely dry;
  • boiling water - your favorite pair of shoes or boots should be thoroughly doused with hot water. Boiling water should get inside. Then you need to drain the water, wait a couple of minutes until the shoes cool slightly, and put them on. Walk for 15–30 minutes;
  • steam - you need to boil water in a saucepan and, taking the problematic shoe, hold it over the container. The steam should heat the entire surface evenly. After this, you need to put your shoes on and walk around in them for a quarter of an hour;
  • laundry soap - will help stretch the problem area in the shoes. To do this, you need to grind the soap and pour boiling water over it. The result should be a paste. Apply the composition to the problem area (where it hurts the most) and leave for 4 hours. Then remove the paste with a damp cloth and put the shoes on the sock. Wear until dry. Can be repeated if necessary;
  • ice - can only be used to stretch shoes made of high-quality material. In boots, shoes or short boots, you need to place plastic bags filled with water at room temperature. They need to be tied properly. It is important that the bags completely fill the space in the shoes. In the cold season, you can simply put your shoes on the balcony, and in the summer in the freezer. When the water begins to harden, it will expand and stretch the boots. After 4 hours, you can take out the shoes and carefully remove the bags;
  • vinegar - you will need a 3% solution. They need to treat the inside of the shoes, boots or shoes and leave them overnight. Try on shoes in the morning. If you still feel discomfort, repeat the next evening;
  • paraffin - for these purposes you can use a regular candle. She needs to rub the area where it hurts the most and leave it overnight. In the morning, remove paraffin with a rag or sponge. It is advisable to repeat the procedure three times in a row;
  • newspapers - will help to slightly stretch the material. First you need to wet the tight pair. Then crumple the newspapers and stuff the shoes so that all the lumps fit snugly against each other. Check the result after 2 hours. If the shoes are still wet, the newspaper needs to be replaced. After the inner and outer surfaces have dried, the shoes or boots can be tried on. If the result is not satisfactory, it is recommended to repeat the procedure;
  • tights - if your favorite pair doesn’t press so hard, then you can simply wear them for several days (an hour at a time), putting them on tights. This method is suitable for shoes. For faster results, you must first heat the inner surface of the product with hot air using a hairdryer;
  • thick socks are the most common and easiest way. It is necessary to wear thick or just woolen socks. Then try on shoes. If the pressure is too strong, it is recommended to walk in the selected pair for no more than 10 minutes. Then give your legs a rest and repeat the procedure.

The most effective, safest and most versatile way to stretch shoes is to break them in with thick socks. The result the first time may be unsatisfactory, but after 2-3 procedures your favorite pair will sit comfortably on your leg.

The author of these lines uses a hair dryer to stretch his shoes. First, I lightly moisten the pair with warm water and put it on my feet. Then I turn on the most powerful mode and dry the shoes. After this, the shoes become much more comfortable, of course, if we are not talking about patent leather products. This method may cause the coating to peel off. By the way, the author of these lines was faced with an unfortunate situation. One pair, after such a procedure, began to peel off from the inner surface. As it turned out, the material was of poor quality, and moisture became a provoking factor. Use this method with caution.

Special means

Effective professional products:

  1. Shoe Stretch is a spray for breaking in shoes and boots. You need to spray the inside of the shoes and put a pair on thick socks. Walk like this for half an hour and the result is obvious. Caution should be exercised when using on shoes made of expensive materials. It is recommended to protect your eyes from contact with the spray during the procedure.
  2. Salton is a spray for softening and stretching the material. Suitable for different types of products. You should spray your favorite pair every time before putting them on. After 3-4 times the material will lie on your leg. Avoid inhalation of aerosol vapors.
  3. Kiwi is a composition for stretching all types of shoes. The aerosol should be sprayed only where shoes, boots or boots are too tight. Then wear for half an hour and repeat the procedure if necessary. The composition of the aerosol has an unpleasant and pungent odor, so during processing it is important not to inhale its vapors.

Professional products should be used only in accordance with the instructions. Otherwise, the material may be damaged.

A friend of the author of these lines purchased shoes that, as it turned out, were too small for her. It was impossible to understand this right away, since she ordered them through an online market. She thought she could stretch the shoes with a spray designed for that purpose. Material: leather substitute. As a result, nothing came of it. The spray couldn't do its job. I recommend not trying to stretch any shoes a size or more. Even professional compounds are unable to do this, and are intended solely for breaking in.

Additional methods

Another method of stretching shoes is to use a terry towel, which needs to be wet and wrung out. Then wrap your shoes or boots in it and put it in a bag, leaving it for 6-8 hours. After this, put on the shoes and wear them until they dry. This method allows you to only slightly stretch your shoes or boots.

A terry towel will help make your shoes looser

You can also use regular deodorant. It should be sprayed in a place where it especially stings. Then put the shoes on your toes and walk like this for about 40 minutes. If the result is not satisfactory, then it is recommended to repeat everything several times.

Deodorant should be applied in a place where the leg is very tight.

After stretching your favorite pair, it is important to treat the material with a special care product.

If you wish, you can purchase a professional shoe stretcher in a specialized store, which is an artificial foot dummy made of wood, plastic or metal. This product has a regulator, thanks to which you can perform the manipulation carefully and gradually.

Methods for artificial leather

There is no need to wear leatherette shoes that pinch your feet. In domestic conditions, it can be increased in size, but you should know that leatherette is less susceptible to stretching than natural material.

Try one of the following tips:

  1. You can try stretching the leatherette using the “farmer’s” method. It is convenient for villagers. It is necessary to pour grain into a close couple to the top and moisten it generously with water. Leave the grain overnight, it will swell from moisture and pull the leatherette.
  2. Generously lubricate the inner surface of the leatherette product with thick cosmetic cream or Vaseline, put on thick socks and walk like this for at least two hours. Try it on with a thin toe; if eco-leather shoes are still too tight, choose another method.
  3. A tight pair of faux leather shoes is worn in after being treated with beer. It is enough to moisten a sponge in this drink and carefully treat the entire inner surface of narrow shoes. Walk around in them for about half an hour. This is how women stretch their boots in the ankle area. The only thing to consider is the possible staining of light skin, so choose non-dark beers.

Main differences from other materials

It’s definitely worth understanding what kind of material it is – nubuck – and what its main features are. The front surface of the fabric is covered with a small pile, which gives a velvety texture and has good breathability. Leatherette nubuck is significantly cheaper than natural one. This is a multilayer material made from polymer raw materials. This fabric has greater wear resistance and does not require such careful treatment and careful maintenance. What distinguishes natural nubuck from artificial one is that it is able to provide good air circulation. At the same time, the synthetic analogue repels moisture.

Suede is made by fat tanning sheep and goat hides. Often buyers do not understand how nubuck differs from it. The fact is that suede products are characterized by a special silkiness, the surface shimmers slightly in the light. This material is cheaper than nubuck and can sometimes be washed in soapy water. At the same time, suede products require much more careful treatment and careful maintenance.

Nubuck has a velvety texture on the front, while suede is covered with fibers on both sides.

Velor is a cheap material obtained by chrome tanning low-quality leather. To make it, they use sawdust, outgrowths, sheep, pork and goat skins from the leg area. This material has low strength, quickly loses its appearance, and is susceptible to contamination.

What to do if your rubber shoes are tight

Real rubber cannot be stretched; it will either break when stretched or return to its previous position. However, today it is almost impossible to purchase products made from real rubber, so you can take advice on how to wear small-sized rubber shoes so that they are comfortable. Follow these instructions:

  • Pour boiling water inside and leave for half an hour;
  • In the meantime, while boiling water softens the rubber, put on woolen socks, so your feet will increase in size;
  • drain the water, let the rubber cool slightly until it becomes warm, and put on the boots for half an hour.

Features of shoe stretching

Do not wet insulated items with fur inside too much from the inside. By the way, in order to break in and stretch winter boots or boots, sometimes it is enough just to remove the insole. Do not stretch your shoes by hammering them! Any procedures can only be carried out with clean and dried products.

PVC rubber boots can be stretched by completely filling each product with boiling water. After five minutes, when the rubber has softened, pour out the water and wipe dry. Put your boots on a thick terry or woolen sock, walk for a few minutes and place them in a bathtub or basin with cold water. Leave for an hour and then dry.

Shoes made of natural, patent or artificial leather can be worn by a person with large feet. But this method is not suitable for suede products, otherwise overstretching will occur and the suede pair will become too big.

Vinegar is considered a universal stretching method that is suitable for different materials. Mix the product with water and thoroughly saturate the inside of the products. Then wear the boots or shoes with thick, thick socks for one to two hours. The unpleasant smell of vinegar can be removed with a soap solution. However, this method must be used carefully for suede shoes, since suede does not like moisture.

After processing products made from any materials, thoroughly dry the shoes in natural conditions and treat them with shoe polish, polish or spray. In addition, you can use folk remedies. For example, Vaseline is suitable for natural leather, vegetable oil is suitable for artificial leather, and glycerin is suitable for rubber boots.

To speed up the drying process, fill the pair with crumpled paper or newspaper. Whenever it gets wet, replace the paper with new one. Detailed rules on how to quickly and safely dry shoes can be found at https://vsepodomu.ru/garderob/kak-bystro-vysushit-obuv/.

Breaking in patent leather shoes

It is dangerous to wear patent leather shoes that are too tight on your own, as there is a risk of ruining their attractive appearance. It is better to entrust such work to professionals or factory products. If your back is rubbing, treat it on the inside with alcohol or vodka.

To stretch patent leather shoes, you should not put them in the freezer, wet them with water, much less boiling water, or hold them over steam.

Important to know: It is necessary to avoid contact of the varnished material with gasoline, alcohol, and silicone lubricants. Any chemical stretchers can only be applied to the inside of the product.

Is it worth contacting the workshop?

The most reliable and safe method is professional shoe stretching in a workshop.

A qualified specialist can quickly adjust to the required size:

  1. Winter with fur;
  2. Leather;
  3. Made from leatherette;
  4. From crocodile;
  5. Textile, including denim;
  6. Made from nubuck;
  7. And so on.

How much could it cost

The direct cost, as well as the duration of stretching in the workshop, depends on the material, the amount of work and the region in which you live. You can view the current price list on the website of the selected shoe workshop, or by scheduling a consultation using contact phone numbers.

Methods for winter models with fur

Breaking in winter shoes with fur inside - boots or boots - is a little more difficult. The technique of steaming and wearing thick socks around the house will help to slightly stretch the boot in the ankle area. You can also try using frozen water:

  1. Place a thick plastic bag over your hand and push it inside the boot closer to the toe.
  2. Pour water into the bags so that it fills the entire space - from toe to heel, tie them.
  3. Place a tight, clean pair in the freezer overnight, until the morning the water freezes, increases in volume and stretches the dense material.

How to paint nubuck shoes at home

Shoe paint is included in the list of basic care products for nubuck material. It allows you to return the product to its original beauty and significantly increases the durability of the shoes. You should use paint not only when you need to mask worn areas, but also when the material becomes dull and uneven.

There are two types of coloring agents:

  • Dye. Each paint comes with instructions for use, so no one will have any difficulties in painting shoes. These products help restore the original appearance of the product without going to specialized workshops. Before applying paint, it is necessary to clean the material from all dirt and dust. Also, the entire surface must be wiped with a rubber eraser to remove the greasy layer. Before painting, the shoes are thoroughly dried. To preserve the effect of the paint longer, a protective agent is applied after painting;
  • Impregnation. It is recommended to use impregnation after each shoe cleaning. It protects the fabric from the adhesion of dirt and dust, and also repels moisture well. When using high-quality impregnation, the material can be restored to its velvety, softness and elasticity. These products are sold in stores in liquid or aerosol form. The aerosol allows you to make the impregnation more uniform and in the required quantity. It is advisable to use this product immediately after purchasing shoes in a store.

The main thing when painting nubuck material is to maintain the required distance of the spray can from the shoes. Do not spray paint too close. This makes the color unnatural.

The appropriate shade must be chosen very carefully. Using an inaccurate color will make the surface uneven.

What to do when your shoes rub

To avoid the formation of calluses on your feet, check out these tips on how to treat shoes that rub your heel and squeeze your toes:

  1. Before you go outside in your new shoes, treat the inside of the heel with soap or a candle.
  2. To prevent the formation of calluses, shoes are broken in as follows: place a cloth on the heel and tap lightly with a hammer. These actions will soften hard skin.
  3. Even if you feel comfortable in your new shoes, don’t rush to wear them for the whole day right away, wear your new shoes little by little.
  4. If you need to slightly stretch your shoes in length, soak a towel in vinegar diluted half and half with water and place it inside the shoes.
  5. Shoes can rub not only your heels, but also your toes. If the cause of calluses is a hard sock, you can soften it with raw potatoes. Two large tubers are peeled and placed inside boots or shoes. Leave for 8 hours. When in contact with potato juice, the natural leather becomes softer, and the tuber stretches the narrow and hard toe.
  6. The traditional solution that allows many women to walk in shoes that are tight in the heel is to stick an adhesive plaster on the foot or on the heel itself.

Easy dust cleaning

The fleecy material traps the smallest particles of dust on the surface. Even if after a short walk your boots or shoes seem immaculate, they still have dirt on them. Any nubuck shoes should be cleaned after each time you go outside. To do this, just carefully walk through the pile in different directions, trying not to crush it. You can use a special brush or non-woven napkins.

TOP stretching products

  2. Spray Shoe Stretch.
  3. Foam stretcher Twist.
  4. "Furman".

Hello! I bought faux nubuck shoes. I usually try to avoid unnatural materials in shoes, but they are too beautiful. The next size was too big, but these ones that I took are a little tight in the toe, the toes are pressed. Has anyone come across this material? Tips with the freezer and stretching sprays are not suitable, they are only for the skin. Please give me some advice, maybe there is a way to stretch artificial nubuck shoes? Very beautiful shoes.. Thank you.

It seems to me that it is impossible.

Shoe stretchers are sold in stores

No! And in the future, never buy such a G. no matter how beautiful it may seem. The skin stretches, G. does not. Throw it away or you'll ruin your legs.

Thank you.. I really like them. I can’t imagine what to do (Well, why wasn’t this model made in leather?! Is there really no way..

Try it with alcohol or vodka. Some synthetic materials are stretchable in this way. Wet it properly from the inside and onto a thick sock. If they don’t stretch like that, then nothing will help.

Alcohol and sock are for the skin again. It can only be stretched using a special sliding wooden block. And that’s not a fact. Sold in expensive shoe stores. A good thing. But in the future, don’t buy shitty shoes, no matter how beautiful they are. Throwing away money.

As soon as and with what))) I didn’t try to stretch it) only the following method helped - heat the shoe from the inside with hot air from a hairdryer and quickly put on the already heated shoe (foot in sock) and walk) works)

Stretching helps, it will stretch wider, it’s been tested.

Can! Just checked! Herself! And so, you put warm water into a spray bottle and spray it inside the shoes. You put on a sock and wait or walk for 20 minutes. Everything stretched out perfectly, I don’t know what you’re complaining about.♡

How to break in nubuck shoes that are too tight

Shoes made of nubuck - natural leather polished with a special method - are gaining increasing popularity among dudes. By purchasing such shoes, you will be pleased, firstly, because your feet will “breathe” and thereby reduce the likelihood of fungal infection. Secondly, nubuck shoes look very stylish thanks to high-quality factory processing of the leather. Thirdly, when used, it demonstrates high strength and durability (of course, subject to proper care).

Brown shoes are very trendy this season. And when purchasing brown nubuck boots in a store, it is important not only to ask yourself what to combine them with, but also how to care for them so that they do not lose their attractive appearance. But what if new shoes made of this material are a little too tight for you? Don't rush to run to the store and exchange it for a new pair. There are ways to help you break in nubuck shoes quickly.

I will say right away that there are several types of nubuck, and when trying to stretch your new shoes, you should first determine what type it is.

Types of nubuck:

  • Natural nubuck is made from genuine leather using special processing
  • Nubuck-oil is also natural, it is just treated with special means
  • Faux nubuck made from synthetic materials

The latter type cannot be stretched at all, so it is better to immediately exchange it in the store. It's better to talk about natural materials. It is worth remembering that, like any other natural material, nubuck tends to stretch over time. Therefore, if you have nowhere to rush, then wear your new clothes around the house every day for a week or two. Shoes are sure to get worn out. But if time is pressing, then you can try to speed up this process. Just don’t try to use products containing oil and grease - they will ruin your shoes. Alcohol will also not help - it leaves white stains.

Advantages and disadvantages

Products made from these raw materials are very popular among buyers. Shoes are especially often made from it. The material has a list of positive properties:

  • allows air to pass through well;
  • keeps warm;
  • thanks to the matte texture and small pile, it can be painted in a variety of colors;
  • pleasant to the touch and looks beautiful;
  • strong, durable, wear-resistant;
  • has increased resistance to mechanical stress;
  • does not stretch.

Natural material is very capricious and requires careful care. Buyers appreciate it for its beauty and durability. Despite all the advantages, users highlight a number of disadvantages:

  • excessive spending on special care products;
  • the need for regular cleaning of contaminants;
  • impossibility of use in rain, slush - the material gets wet and deforms from exposure to moisture;
  • In the absence of proper care, nubuck quickly loses its original properties.

In some industries, the material is impregnated with special compounds, thanks to which moisture does not penetrate inside.

How to break in shoes made from natural nubuck

Method No. 1

Take the shoes to the workshop. There you will be stretched to the required dimensions using a special tool (usually wooden blocks). Just don’t stretch your shoes to fit! Firstly, you will shorten its service life, and secondly, it will lose the attractiveness of its appearance. The maximum possible stretch is 0.5 sizes.

Method No. 2

Buy a special product. Now on the shelves of shoe stores there are a lot of such products: aerosols, foams. When using them for nubuck shoes, spray the product on the inner surface, put on thick socks (woolen ones are possible) and walk around in such shoes for as long as possible. It’s better, of course, before it dries, but if your feet are tired and sore, then don’t torture yourself. Continue another time.

Method No. 3

A rather unusual method, but quite effective when done correctly. Place a bag in your shoes and fill it with water (when filled, the bag of water should occupy the entire inner surface). Place your shoes in the freezer. When freezing, water tends to expand, which means the shoes will stretch under pressure from its side.

Method No. 4

Pour some hot water into your shoes (you only need a little, but the main thing is that it is hot). Put on woolen socks and put on your shoes while your shoes are still warm. Walk around in it for as long as possible, it is better, of course, to let the shoes dry out a little. Nubuck, like all natural materials, is very pliable and will definitely take the shape of your foot.

Some useful tips on how to properly care for shoes made of natural nubuck

  • First, remember that the first time you go out in new shoes made from any natural materials should be in dry weather. If it gets wet, it will become a little smaller when dried and will begin to pinch you.
  • Secondly, shoe care should begin even before active wearing. Treat its surface with a special water-repellent agent.
  • Third, let it dry before you clean it. Only after this, treat the surface with a special sponge or brush. And only then apply a special coloring agent.
  • Fourth, follow the basic rule for drying shoes (it applies to all natural materials): do not dry them under a hot radiator or near a fire. At high temperatures, the skin deteriorates and shrinks, that is, most likely after such drying it will become smaller. There are special electric dryers for drying shoes.

Traditional methods of caring for nubuck

  • The shoes are very dirty and have old stains. You can make a solution of ammonia and water, in a ratio of 1:4, and clean it well.
  • You can use steam, you just need to maintain the shoes for 2-3 minutes, on each side, at a distance of at least 30 cm. Afterwards, be sure to apply restoring spray paint for shoes.
  • It urgently needs to be painted black, there is no cosmetics for shoes, no problem, an ordinary black carbon copy will do. Do not pour out the brewed coffee, because the most ordinary coffee grounds can also be used to color nubuck.
  • A dirty surface, a well-known method, a crust of bread or a school pencil eraser, which is better to clean the nubuck.
