Almost every home has a blazer in their closet. These jackets come in different styles and colors. In addition, the cost is quite reasonable, so many can afford to buy such a thing. But sometimes it happens that the color of winter outerwear gets boring, and a person immediately looks for a solution to his problem. Owners of such products often wonder how to dye a bologna jacket at home? How to decorate bolognese pants? How to dye a black nylon parka? First you need to understand the tools and paints, and also not forget about the properties of the material and dyes.

Dye selection

Before going to the store, you need to find out the material of the down jacket. For synthetic fibers, compounds made from chemical elements are suitable. First you need to purchase paint from a specialty store. You should not save on money and buy from unknown manufacturers.

Important! Dye purchased cheaply in the subway can ruin clothes.

High-quality compositions can be found in a regular art store. Acrylic is designed specifically for dyeing fabrics. The main advantage is the huge palette of shades. If a person has not found the right color, he can combine several colors. Dyes are also sold at hardware stores. Before purchasing, it is recommended to test the product on a small piece of similar material. Artificial dye is presented in the form:

  • powder;
  • crystals;
  • paste placed in a jar.

Painting process

Before the procedure, you need to remove metal buttons and decorations from the down jacket, otherwise rusty spots will appear during the painting process. The process consists of several stages:

  • paint thinning;
  • immersing the product in the solution;
  • drying down jacket.

To repaint a down jacket in a bathtub or basin manually, you need to use the following algorithm:

  1. Prepare a solution. To do this, the dye is diluted in warm water. A packet of dye and 150 g of table salt are poured into 10 liters of water. Stir well to obtain a homogeneous mass.
  2. The down jacket is immersed in the solution and left for several hours.
  3. Next, prepare a solution that allows you to consolidate the result. 50 g of salt are diluted in 2 liters of water. The down jacket, repainted in a different color, is taken out of the container with wooden sticks, the fixative is poured in and the jacket is lowered again. Leave for 15 minutes.
  4. Next, the painted product is taken out and dried.

One sachet is used to paint 0.5 kg of product. To get a deep, rich shade, add more composition. For uniform dyeing, it is necessary to select a large container so that the down jacket is completely immersed in the solution. In addition, while the pigment is absorbed, it must be mixed. If the down jacket is dyed in a washing machine, then use the following algorithm:

  1. First, calculate the required amount of paint. For 1 kg of product use 1 package. Dilute the composition in water at room temperature.
  2. The resulting mixture is poured into the washing powder compartment. This is done at the moment when the equipment has finished collecting water.
  3. Wash and hang to dry.

If the down jacket is repainted black, additionally select the “rinse” mode. To consolidate the richness of the shade, rinse with vinegar again.

Painting results

Dye selection

If you need to repaint your clothes, it is better to buy paint in advance. In this case, the savings will be unnecessary - a cheap dye can give a completely unexpected result. Therefore, it is better to make a choice in favor of a well-known manufacturer. Dyes that are distinguished by their quality and effectiveness can be found in an art store. It is better to choose acrylic for dyeing fabric. It is better to pay attention to a wide range of colors. If the desired color is not found, you can mix several shades to achieve the desired result.

Before purchasing, you can consult with the seller, who will tell you about the dye, its properties and effectiveness. In addition to the paint manufacturer, the original color of the down jacket also matters. You can often find a table with the end result on the packaging of coloring products. But this rule only applies to white clothes. If you need to repaint a colored jacket, you need to buy paint a shade darker.

We dye the jacket

  • Before dyeing your outerwear, soak it in warm water. This is necessary to ensure that the paint is evenly distributed throughout the jacket. You can soak it in the sink or in a bucket.
  • Next, remove the bolognese jacket from the water and straighten out all the creases and folds so that the dye will subsequently lie evenly on its surface.
  • Heat a large pan of water. Pour water so that the jacket floats freely.

Important! The product must float freely in water. This way the paint can be absorbed evenly. The size of the pan should be such that after immersing the product, it is three-quarters full. It is recommended to choose a very large container so as not to make a mistake.

  • Bring water to a boil over low heat. Then we pour water into a basin and immerse our product in the resulting “bath”. Make sure the water is at least 60 degrees Celsius.
  • Add the colorful solution to a pan of boiling water and stir for a few minutes. One bag of paint will require at least 11 liters of water. If you take less, the color will be more saturated. And if it’s the other way around, then the shade will accordingly be less bright.

Important! Dissolve the dye in a separate container. Fill a bag of powder with 200 ml of hot water. Stir until completely dissolved. If you use liquid paint, you must first dissolve it with water.

  • To get a brighter and more colorful result, you can add white vinegar to the water. For 11 liters of water you will need 100 ml of vinegar.
  • You need to “cook” the jacket for at least one hour.

Do not forget to take into account several important rules when “cooking” the product:

  1. Do not leave the product unattended. It may float and render the painting process useless.
  2. Use wooden chopsticks and a spoon to press the item to the bottom of the container so that the water completely covers it.
  3. Constantly stir the product under water using spoons.
  4. If you cook the jacket longer, the resulting color will be darker and more saturated.

After all the manipulations done, you need to carefully remove the product from the bath. And then rinse with running water (hot at first), gradually reducing its temperature. Rinse until clean water begins to drain from the jacket.

Important! These manipulations must be done outside or in the sink. If you decide to do this in the sink, then at the end of the process you need to thoroughly wash it with chlorine-containing preparations, since the paint is absorbed very quickly.

Preparatory work

Before you start dyeing, you need to prepare the jacket:

  • unfasten or unfasten the fur collar and cuffs;
  • remove buttons;
  • fasten the clasps;
  • remove everything from pockets;
  • oil or glue stains on the surface of the fabric must be removed in advance using special means;
  • A dirty jacket needs to be washed.

The workplace also requires preparation. To protect floors, walls and other surfaces from paint, you need to cover the work area with plastic film. Just in case, you need to put napkins, a rag and detergent in a visible place. If paint spills out of the container, you can immediately remove the puddle without waiting for the dye to be absorbed. In addition, you need to take care to protect your own clothing.

For work you will need the following items and materials:

  • Dye - sold in powder form, which must be diluted with water in the proportions specified in the instructions.
  • Container - a large aluminum pan or tank. After immersing the jacket in the dye solution, the container should be filled only 2/3 of the volume.
  • Scales.
  • Wooden tongs for stirring clothes.
  • Salt, vinegar.

Once everything is prepared, you can safely start dyeing your clothes.

How to paint things at home

Sometimes cases arise when you need to dye not a new fabric, but an old item. To implement your plan, you just need to follow simple instructions. Before you begin the dyeing process, you need to decide on a color. After this, it is better to wash the clothes so that there are no dirty spots on them.

When dyeing, you can create patterns by folding clothes

Dying a shirt is not difficult at all. It is enough to decide on the paint. The dye is best diluted in 300 milligrams of water heated to 70-75 degrees. Then water is added inside the container with the dye.

The shirt is straightened and then placed inside the container. After the water boils, you need to set it for 20 minutes and then add 3 tablespoons of salt. It should be noted that the amount of salt affects the tone enhancement. If you add 6 spoons, the shirt will turn black. To ensure that the product is colored evenly, it must be stirred. 30 minutes after boiling, the jacket is removed from the solution.

To fix the color, the shirt is washed with cold water and vinegar. It is better to dry such a thing by first hanging it on a hanger.

After dyeing, you need to rinse the clothes well

Fabric paint is dissolved in water according to the instructions indicated on the back of the package. After this, you need to heat the container and mix the dye, and then add 3 tablespoons of salt. When the solution heats up, you can lower the dress into it. It is important to constantly stir the item so that it is completely colored. After boiling, you should keep the item in the solution for another 30 minutes.

After half an hour, the container is turned off, but the dress is not removed until the solution has cooled. The final step of coloring is rinsing. In this case, a little washing powder is added to the water.

Such a thing as a jacket is the most difficult to dye. This is due to the fact that such clothing includes several types of fabrics. If the product consists largely of wool, then it is necessary to place the jacket in a previously prepared solution, and then bring the liquid to a boil. It takes about 45 minutes to cook the item in this solution.

In the next step, the dye is cooled to 80 degrees, and then ammonia is added to it. The item remains in the solution for another 30 minutes. This method will allow you to paint all the components. After dyeing, the jacket is rinsed and then placed on a horizontal surface to dry.

T-shirts are most often made of cotton fabric, so there will be no difficulties in coloring them. It is best to use natural colors such as blueberries, tea or coffee.

Selected fruits are boiled in water without bleach. Then the solution is boiled to the desired consistency. After filtering the dye, you can proceed directly to coloring. The shirt is left in the solution for 1 hour. If you want to give things patterns, you need to twist them.

It should be remembered that drying things in the sun is prohibited. It is better to do this in the bathroom, laying it out on a horizontal surface.
