Use of glycerin
If greasy stains form on kitchen curtains, you can get rid of them with glycerin.
To do this, you need to mix pharmacy glycerin and ammonia in equal proportions, and then apply the product to the dirt using a cotton swab. When this product dries a little, you need to wash the curtains with powder and rinse well.

Preparing for cleaning
Before you take action, you need to evaluate the following points:
- The scale of the disaster. Washing is stressful for any fabric, even the most durable. If the stain is single, it makes sense to try to remove it locally without removing the curtain from the curtain rod.
- Time of appearance of the oil trace. Removing fresh stains is not that difficult with gentle detergents. Stubborn stains will require aggressive cleaners, soaking and washing.
- The type of fabric from which the curtain is made. Different materials respond differently to the same cleaning methods. While linen and cotton react calmly to most substances, polyester and viscose react to them selectively.
Once all the questions have been answered, you can begin choosing a detergent and processing method.
Using ammonia
Ammonia will help remove existing stains from curtains. To do this, add 2-3 tbsp to the water. l. this remedy. Soak the curtains in the solution for 1 hour, and then wash them as usual. This will keep the curtains clean and fresh.
Ammonia has a rather pungent and strong odor. It may even lead to dizziness. However, there is no need to worry too much as this smell dissipates quickly. The most important thing is to rinse the curtains well.
Rules for drying and ironing
There is no need to wring out the tulle in the machine or twist it. Gently remember with your hands, hang it on the edge of the bath and wait for the excess liquid to drain. After this, return it to the curtains and stretch it so that there are no creases left.
If folds have formed on the curtain, iron the fabric through the gauze on the “unit”. For easy ironing, spray the tulle with water from a spray bottle.
Watch the video on how to iron tulle correctly.
At home, remove grease stains locally before the main wash. Soak and wash tulle only in cool or slightly warm water. Act immediately: do not wait for the fat to be absorbed into the fabric.
Removing old stains
It is not possible to wash stains from a curtain right away, since sometimes there is not enough time or it is not immediately possible to notice the stains.
To do this, you need to dilute starch in warm water. The mixture should be quite thick. Apply the resulting product on top of the stain and pour a little gasoline on top. Then sprinkle with black bread and powder. Leave for 30 minutes and then wash in soapy water.
If the dirt is difficult to remove from the curtains, then you can simply hold the textiles over the steam coming from boiling water or treat them with a steam generator. After this, the stains will be much easier to remove.
Household chemicals for removing greasy marks
If you don’t trust gentle folk methods, you can turn to household chemicals. For soaking curtains, including white ones, Bos Plus Maximum is suitable, for colored ones – Vanish OXI Action. Also effective:
- Stain remover pencil, for example: Faberlic, Meine Liebe, as well as rollerball Dr. Beckmann. The area of the curtain with the stain is moistened and then treated with a cleaner. After 10 minutes, the product is washed off with warm water.
- Dry anti-stain spray. The stain remover is sprayed onto the greasy print and left until completely dry. When the aerosol turns into white flakes, it is cleaned from the curtain with a dry brush. Suitable for curtains of any color and texture, for example: Bagi, SC Johnson Europlant BV Shout, Amway PreWash Spray (also suitable for white curtains).
Washing thin tulle
Thin and delicate fabrics, in particular such as nylon, organza and chiffon, require the most delicate care. To wash them, you should use a solution of vinegar and ammonia.
To prepare the solution, you need to mix 50 ml of vinegar and ammonia and soak the stains well with this mixture. To enhance the effect obtained, you can add 1 tablespoon of salt to the solution. 10-15 minutes after applying the mixture, you can wash the curtains by hand in a soapy solution.
Synthetic laundry detergents
The ideal product for washing tulle fabrics is gel. It is effective at +30...+40°C - at this temperature it is possible to wash tulle by hand and in a machine. It is completely rinsed without leaving chemical marks on the canvas.
The large assortment offered by manufacturers allows you to choose a gel for different needs:
- Traditional gels for hand and machine washing (Ariel, Synergetic and others). As a rule, their formula contains substances that cope with stains of various origins (fruit, coffee, wine, etc.), as well as a complex with whitening components.
- Soft bleaches contain any gels for washing children's clothes: “Ushasty Nyan”, “Umka”, Ocean Baby, AQuA baby.
- New generation optical brighteners intended only for white fabrics. They brighten even gray or yellowed curtains.
- Oxygen bleaches create the effect of whiteness without destroying the structure of the fabric. Suitable even for products with colored patterns. Used for low temperature machine washing.

How to get rid of old stains on kitchen curtains?
And now we will look at how to remove greasy stains from tulle in the kitchen, which appeared quite a long time ago and have already become deeply ingrained into the fabric.
Method 1
Ammonia and glycerin will help you with this. These components need to be diluted in the same proportions, carefully moisten a cotton swab in the resulting solution and wipe off the stain halos, and then the stains themselves. This is the most popular way to remove old grease stains.
Method 2
Oil spots on tulle made of chiffon, organza and nylon can be eliminated using the following solution:
Important! If the curtains have heavily absorbed grease and soot, you can use some kind of stain remover. In stores they are presented in a wide range, but the main thing is that the chosen product is mild and does not contain chlorine.
If you are looking for a more budget-friendly option for household chemicals, look at what inexpensive but effective analogues of Vanish are on sale.
How to bleach tulle and remove grayness and yellowness?
During the use of tulle, problems arise due to the loss of its beautiful snow-white color. To eliminate an unnatural shade, you need to find out the reason for its appearance.
Yellow:
- fat,
- Sun,
- wash in hot water,
- ironing with a hot iron,
- tobacco smoke.
Gray shade:
- wash in hard water,
- dust settling,
- washing with other things,
- soot and soot,
- frequent washing.
Important! Synthetic tulle washed in hot water cannot be restored. At high temperatures, irreversible chemical reactions occur in the fibers.
Special bleaches
To whiten tulle, manufacturers of household chemicals produce special detergents. They easily cope with complex stains and return tulle to its original whiteness.

Folk remedies
Before the advent of special chemistry, housewives used improvised means. They are still popular now, as they have a number of advantages: low cost, availability in the house, safety of use.
Folk remedies:
- salt (without iodine),
- soda,
- blue,
- starch,
- laundry soap,
- hydrogen peroxide,
- brilliant green,
- white,
- ammonia.
Salt and soda
Suitable for any fabric. Preparation of the solution: 1.5 tablespoons plus a little powder per 5 liters of warm water. Soak dirty tulle for a long time (salt from 3 to 10 hours, soda from 2 to 5 hours).
After soaking in the solution, wash by hand or in a machine.
Blue
A clean product is rinsed in a blue solution. It is prepared at the rate of 3 drops per 5 liters (if there are instructions on the package, follow their instructions).
Starch
It not only whitens, but also starches. This effect allows the tulle to remain white longer and not wrinkle. A glass of starch is diluted in a small container, and then poured into a basin with a volume of 5-7 liters.
Soak a clean item for two hours and dry without rinsing the product.
Laundry soap
Very dirty or dusty curtains are soaked in a strong soap solution before the main wash.
A glass of soap shavings is boiled in a small amount of water and then poured into a container (a total of about 7 liters of solution should be obtained). Soak for 8 hours.
Zelenka
Preparation of the solution: dilute 10 drops of brilliant green and 2 tbsp in a glass of water. l. fine salt. When a sediment forms, the mixture is diluted in a basin, leaving the sediment in the container. Add to machine rinse.
Peroxide and ammonia
Mix the products in a 1:2 ratio and add during soaking (about 30 minutes). Additional rinsing and then drying is required.

White
Hands are protected with gloves. To prepare the solution, add 3 caps to 7 liters of water. Soak for an hour. Important: the tulle must be completely submerged in water.
After bleaching, rinse well. The product contains chlorine and is not suitable for some fabrics. Whiteness is used only in extreme cases.
Effective cleaning products
In addition to traditional methods, household chemicals are used. It provides effective removal of stains and grayness. But it is important to choose the right product that will not spoil the structure of the fabric. Products for washing or soaking are selected.
The most popular chemicals for washing curtains:
- "Vanish." The product does not contain chlorine, so it cannot harm the fabric. It has a pleasant smell and uniform structure. Even using a small amount of liquid can improve the appearance of the curtain.
- Amway. Bleach is used to soak the tulle for half an hour. Then it is machine washed with the addition of a small amount of this product. This chemical composition copes with even the oldest and most difficult stains, but its cost is considered too high.
- "Lily of the valley". This product comes in the form of a paste used on old and dirty curtains. The fabric is lowered into water, in which a small amount of “Lily of the Valley” is first diluted. The curtain is left in the solution for several hours, after which it is washed in the standard way.
Powerful bleaches are used as a last resort when folk remedies do not help deal with old stains. But soaking is done for a limited period of time to protect the fabric from deterioration. It is important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations to maintain the original appearance of the tulle.
Basic Rules
You need to wash tulle curtains at least once every three months - over time, even ordinary dust that settles on them can turn into difficult-to-remove dirt, so you shouldn’t let the curtains get to this state. If this is the only thing that stains the curtains, the issue can be easily resolved by washing it in warm soapy water, after shaking the curtain well outside or just from the balcony. The optimal water temperature for tulles is +30..+40 °C; if it is hotter, the curtains may shrink. Synthetics (polyester and nylon), as well as some mixed fabrics, are quite capable of withstanding greater heat - up to +50..+60 °C.
If your windows overlook a busy highway or the yard is very dusty in summer, all this may not help the first time. In this case, you need to choose a bleaching composition that does not contain chlorine - oxygen or optical. Of course, aggressive agents are more effective, but they destroy fabric fibers, reducing the service life of tulle curtains.
Delicate curtains do not wring out or twist. Excess water should simply be allowed to drain into the bathtub or into a wide basin. After this, hang the damp curtain on the cornice - under its own weight with retained moisture, it will straighten itself. It is advisable to place a well-absorbing rag below on the floor or on the windowsill, since water will continue to drip from the panels for some time. It is not recommended to iron such products, especially if it is white fabric, which may turn yellow as a result of exposure to high temperatures. The only exceptions are mixed materials, viscose and silk - they are ironed through a piece of cotton or paper with minimal heating of the iron.
While your curtains are in the wash, be sure to wipe off any dust and dirt on the curtain rod to prevent it from staining your wet curtains.
Machine washable
If you have a completely modern washing machine, you can tidy up your kitchen linen in it too. In some models there are even special programs for this - these are “Silk” (Silk / Seide / Seta) or “Delicate wash” (Delicate fabrics / Fein / Tessuti delicate). If these options are not provided by the manufacturer, you can set the mode yourself by selecting the desired temperature and an analogue of hand washing.
Before washing the tulle, it must be carefully folded; it is better to pack especially delicate and expensive curtains in a special mesh case or at least a white pillowcase. The detergent is poured into the machine in half the volume - for thin fabrics more is not needed. After the end of the cycle, turn on the rinse, but do not use the spin, unless your equipment has a low speed mode (no more than 400-500 min-1). Soaking or pre-washing is allowed.
Washing curtains in a machine
If you don't have time to wash by hand or the recipes described above don't work, use professional products and wash the curtain in the washing machine.
Remove greasy stains with stain remover
The most popular are oxygen stain removers, as they effectively dissolve fats and detach them from the fabric.
They are available in 2 forms - for colored and snow-white products.
You can also add a stain remover along with the powder, turn on the “soaking program” and the machine will do everything itself.
"Belizna", "Amway" and other chemical bleaches
The rationality of using these products depends on the stain itself and the type of curtain. It is convenient to use chlorine-containing products if the curtain has turned gray or yellowed.
Then we prepare a solution with the addition of “Whiteness” and put the entire curtain in it. After 30–40 minutes, wash in a machine or by hand.
This product is convenient to use if a stain has formed that is difficult to remove and cannot be removed. Pour con on the contaminated area, let the product sit, and then wash.
Note ! The disadvantage of this product is several facts. “Whiteness” cannot be used often, as it can ruin the structure of the fabric. It is also prohibited to use for washing colored items.
Amway products are practically harmless to fabric, effectively remove greasy stains on colored and white tulle (with or without chiffon), and are easy to use. However, they are expensive, so not every housewife has them on hand.
Care instructions
Despite the fact that removing stains from tulle is not such a difficult task, it is worth following some recommendations during the process. They will allow you to maintain the original color and structure of the fabric.
Wash tulle on a delicate cycle and at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees
- Proceed carefully . Before you start a full cleaning, try the detergent on a small area of the fabric and watch the reaction of the threads to it.
- Choose the right temperature . Wash tulle in water at a temperature no higher than 30 °C.
- Use accessories . If you decide to wash the curtain in the washing machine, first put it in a special bag.
- No spin . Wash tulle on a delicate cycle and without spinning. If you rinse the tulle yourself, do not twist it, but simply let the water drain.
Special laundry bags will protect tulle from damage during washing
How to remove greasy stains from tulle?
Kitchen curtains cannot shine with beauty and whiteness for too long due to the special environment of this room and due to constant pollution. Over time, synthetic delicate fabric becomes yellow and becomes covered with a layer of soot, dust, and drops of fat, which is why it looks completely unattractive.
Now we will learn how to wash kitchen tulle to remove all dirt in one wash. It is better to use the following available tools for this:
Washing at home
Before washing, curtains removed from the curtain rod must be thoroughly shaken out and soaked in cool water, changing the water several times. This will make the job of removing stains much easier and will remove accumulated dust.
- To remove traces of yellow and gray plaque when hand washing, you need to soak the curtains in salt water (100 grams of salt per 1 liter of water). Add a small amount of washing powder. Soak the curtains for 2-3 hours.
- To give your curtains a new look and softness: add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to the powder foam. Wash carefully.
- If you add a couple of drops of blue to the last rinse, the color of the fabric will take on an incredibly snow-white hue.
