Freshly squeezed juice is a source of beneficial microelements and a varied combination of vitamins. It has a short shelf life, so there are storage standards for it. Not everyone knows how long freshly squeezed juice can be stored at room temperature and in the refrigerator. Store-bought drinks contain special additives that ensure long-term storage. There are also certain rules for freshly squeezed juices that allow them to maintain their freshness and taste for a long time.
How long can you store homemade apple juice?
Natural apple juice is aromatic and sweet and sour in taste, as it contains (malic hydroxysuccinic or malanic) acid, vitamin C, and other organic acids.
Due to this, apple juice can be stored for quite a long time. The only thing is that you need to choose the right ratio, how much sugar is needed so that there is no shortage of it - otherwise there is a risk that the juice will quickly spoil and the lid will “inflate”, and also in excess - it will not taste good, it is better to let everyone add “for themselves” the right amount of sugar. The better the juice is preserved, the more natural, strong and concentrated it is. However, it will definitely last one or two years. Moreover, there are no seeds, but only juice, unlike compote or cherry jam. It can stand for three years without deteriorating. Storage conditions, cleanliness of cans during preparation, etc. are also important here.
Apple juice for the winter
Apple juice is very healthy and tasty. The best juice comes from aromatic sweet and sour apples. It can be prepared using a juicer, press or meat grinder. The easiest way is to use a juicer.
- First, prepare the jars: wash them and sterilize each one by holding them over hot steam for about 15 minutes. Now squeeze out the juice using a juicer or press and pour it into the pan.
- Add sugar to taste, about one spoon per 500 ml of juice. Bring it to a boil, but do not boil.
- Immediately after boiling, turn off the gas and pour the juice into jars. We seal them with metal lids, which must first be boiled for 4-5 minutes.
- We place the sealed jars with the lids down and wrap them in a blanket. After a day, remove the blanket and turn the jars over. The juice is ready. Store jars in a dark place for one to two years.
The second option for preparing apple juice is using a meat grinder. To do this, wash the apples, remove the seeds, cut them into quarters and pass them through a meat grinder. Let the mixture sit in a cool place for a day. Then squeeze out the juice and leave in a cold place for another two days. The juice will become lighter in color. Carefully drain it until it settles, boil for 5 minutes, and pour into hot jars. We also seal with lids.
Cranberry
It is not customary to mix cranberry juice with anything else. But it is often used to make healthy fruit drinks, which can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 days.
Beetroot
How long can beet juice be stored? It is not recommended to do this for more than two days. At the same time, before eating, it is recommended to let the freshly squeezed beet juice sit for about 40 minutes and only then drink it. Fresh juice should be stored in the refrigerator in a tightly closed glass bottle or jar, without access to oxygen. But it’s better not to prepare a lot of the drink for future use, but to drink it exclusively fresh.
Risks of eating expired apples
Although eating apples that are starting to age is not always dangerous, apples are susceptible to mold growth, just like other fresh produce.
Mold is caused by microorganisms and can cause allergic or respiratory reactions in some people. Some microorganisms produce mycotoxins, which are the cause of many foodborne illnesses (5, 6).
Apples are susceptible to a mycotoxin called patulin, which is produced by the Penicillium expansum . When patulin is consumed in large quantities, it can cause nausea and bleeding ulcers and may even increase the risk of cancer (6, 7).
Mycotoxins can also destroy gut bacteria, which can negatively impact your immune system and increase your risk of developing other diseases (8, 9).
It is best to discard apples that show signs of expiration, as they carry the risk of toxic mold. Apples are especially at risk for the growth of mycotoxins such as patulin, which are dangerous to consume.
How to store carrot juice for the winter
Some housewives do not consume fresh carrot juice, but preserve carrot juice, which increases its shelf life to 1 year.
There are two home canning methods to ensure long-term storage of carrot juice: pasteurization and hot filling.
Pasteurization
Heat the product over very low heat almost to a boil, but do not boil. Then it is poured into pre-sterilized jars (not to the brim). Next, the containers are covered with lids, and the juice in the jars is sterilized in a water bath at a temperature of about 90 degrees.
Hot filling
This method of canning carrot juice is simpler, but during preparation the amount of nutrients in the drink decreases, since it must be boiled.
The juice is heated and simmered over low heat, and then poured into prepared sterilized jars, which are immediately rolled up and placed upside down until completely cooled at room temperature.

General recommendations for canning and storing carrot juice
It must be remembered that before canning, carrot juice is filtered through cheesecloth. Any foam that floats to the surface of the drink during preparation is skimmed off.
Canned carrot juice recipes usually include directly squeezed carrot juice, water and sugar. It wouldn’t hurt to add a spoonful of vegetable oil to the drink. You can also mix carrot juice with apple or pumpkin juice and prepare it using one of the canning methods.
Carrot juice in jars does not always last all winter. It all depends on whether harmful bacteria were not allowed to enter the product during the preparation process.
The jars sit at room temperature in a dark place for a week, and during this time it usually becomes clear whether it is suitable for consumption. You should throw away the carrot juice without regret if the lid is swollen, it has radically changed color or consistency, or has become cloudy.
If the canned juice has passed the “test”, then in winter the whole family will be able to enjoy a tasty and healthy drink.
How to use it correctly
Fruit pomace often contains a lot of sugar, which is bad for you. Therefore, it is recommended to dilute them with water in a 1:1 ratio. It is recommended to drink acidic liquids (orange, lemon and others) through a straw to protect tooth enamel from destruction.
The best time to enjoy a vitamin drink is between meals. Many juices (especially sour ones) should absolutely not be drunk on an empty stomach, so as not to provoke diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. After a glass of juice, eat food 30–40 minutes later.
Nutritionists advise drinking only 200 ml of fresh juice daily.
It is advisable to add a few drops of olive oil and cream to carrot juice - these components will help the vitamins be better absorbed by the body.
Features of storing freshly squeezed juice
Storage features depend on the specific type of fruit or vegetable. Moreover, some can be kept in the refrigerator for several days, while others begin to oxidize after 2-3 hours.
It is important to initially know how long a particular type of juice can be stored. Otherwise, you can not only then drink ordinary nectar, practically devoid of vitamins and beneficial elements, but also harm the body
Typically, the shelf life of freshly squeezed juice is 24 hours. After this time, you should not drink such a drink - there will be no benefit left in it. But the vitamin bomb will have the greatest positive effect on the human body 10-25 minutes after spinning. But also, not all juices are most beneficial immediately after pressing.
The juice is stored in the refrigerator on the bottom or middle shelf. It must not be allowed to freeze, so do not place it on the top shelf or close to the cooling device. If you plan to take a delicious drink outside on a picnic, then you need to take care of a portable refrigerator or thermal bags or thermal bags. Such equipment will help keep the juice chilled, so all the vitamins will remain in it and it will retain the best consistency. If you plan to keep the juice for more than a day, then you should add a few drops of lemon to it. This fruit will reduce oxidation and improve flavor and color. But you shouldn’t use this method often, because in any case, if stored for more than a day, there will be little beneficial properties left in the juice.
How can?
Apple nectar spoils very quickly. It begins to lose its beneficial properties within 15 minutes after its preparation, so it is better to drink it immediately .
The shelf life of the drink at room temperature is 2 hours, no more. You can drink it later, but you won’t be able to get the maximum benefit.
During storage, the juice changes color, becoming darker. A similar reaction can be observed if you cut an ordinary apple. The longer the drink sits, the less nutrients remain in it.
How to store freshly squeezed juice
There is no doubt that juices are the best nutrition for humans, since this is one of the ways to replenish the body’s reserves of mineral elements. Juices are absorbed by the human body almost instantly, because the enzymes necessary for their digestion are present in the juices themselves. At the same time, the energy resources of the juice are completely used by the body. If we heat the juice, then all the enzymes and vitamins will be destroyed, and the juice will turn into a pleasant, but devoid of benefits, dessert.
But if you still need to store the juice for some time, then you need to know the rules for storing juices.
DIY apple juicer
You can assemble the juicer with your own hands from an activator-type washing machine. The operation of the device is based on centrifugal rotation. The activator and shaft are removed from the bottom of the old machine and installed on a shaft of the required diameter. 3 knives are installed on the threaded part using nuts at an angle of 60 degrees. The hole for the drain is covered. A stainless steel mesh with a mesh size of 1.5 millimeters lies on the wall of the centrifuge with an overlap of 40-50 millimeters. A lid made of rubber with a stopper is placed on its bottom, tightly closing it. Everything is thoroughly washed with baking soda, and the timer relay is turned off.
Afterwards, 2-3 apples are placed into the homemade structure on rotating knives. They are thoroughly crushed within half an hour. You can put 3 liters of applesauce into the centrifuge at one time. After completing each procedure, the device must be thoroughly washed. The assembled apparatus can prepare about 10 liters of juice with pulp per hour. This device performance is perfect for home use.
Tips for storing different fruit, vegetable and berry juices
It is better to pour any juice from fresh fruits, berries or vegetables into glass or ceramic containers. In extreme cases, a sterilized plastic bottle will do. Do not forget to tightly close the container with a lid: the less contact with air, the slower the oxidation.
We recommend: Shelf life of dumplings: at what temperature, how long to store dumplings
Tip from Miss Clean magazine: if you can’t drink freshly squeezed juice in its pure form, then whip up a milkshake based on it, mix several types of fruits, add sugar and cinnamon.
Some tips for storing popular types of fresh juice:
- Of the fruit juices, apple juice deteriorates the fastest: due to its reaction with air, it begins to darken, just like fresh fruits. To slow down this process, fresh lemon juice is added to the fresh juice. This component will extend the shelf life of apple juice to 1 day.
- Orange juice and other citrus pomace can be stored for up to 2 days, which is relatively long. But be sure to place the bottle in the refrigerator. By the way, drinking cold juice is much more pleasant.
- Lemon juice is the leader in vitamin C content and can sit on the refrigerator door for 3 days. Another “long-lasting” fresh juice is pineapple.
- Sweet apricot juice spoils very quickly; keep it in the refrigerator for a maximum of 3 hours.
- It is better to dilute fresh kiwi with water 1:1, as it is too rich in acids.
- Carrot juice is better absorbed if you drink it immediately after squeezing (maximum 20-30 minutes later), and also combine it with something fatty: vegetable oil, cream or sour cream. The fact is that carotene needs to be combined with fats in order for the body to synthesize vitamin A. And fresh carrots are drunk precisely because of this component: it supports the organs of vision and skin tone.
- Juice from fresh cabbage, which is considered medicinal, is generally not stored outside the refrigerator.
- Keep the beetroot juice in a cold place for 2-3 hours and then drink. This way you will get more benefits. The maximum shelf life of vegetable elixir is 2 days.
- It is recommended to pour tomato juice into a glass bottle and drink it within 18 hours.
- Fresh berry juices begin to ferment quickly, so you should drink them in the first half of the day.
- Fruit and vegetable mixes are stored for no more than 24 hours, even if citrus was used.
The shelf life of freshly squeezed juice can only be slightly extended by refrigeration. And if you’re into healthy smoothies, try pouring the fresh juice into ice cube trays so you can add fruit ice to your cocktails for a couple of months.
By type
Shelf life in the refrigerator directly depends on the raw materials used. According to the duration of storage, they can be divided into the following types:
- With a minimum period (up to 30 minutes) – carrot, apricot, cucumber, watermelon, cabbage.
- Up to 2 hours – tomato, peach, cherry, grape, apple.
- 24 hours – grapefruit, plum, pumpkin, kiwi, tangerines, pomelo, potatoes, celery.
- 48 hours – orange, beetroot, pomegranate, lime.
- Up to 3 days – lemon, birch, pineapple, aloe (used for instillation into the nose).
- For several months you can drink sea buckthorn juice (with added sugar) and ginger extract. From celandine (for medicinal and household purposes) - stored for up to a year.
How to store in the freezer
A drink made from fresh fruits or vegetables using a juicer can be frozen. In this case, the ice pieces will retain all their beneficial properties. You will need:
- take a special container with dividers;
- thoroughly rinse the compartments; pour juice to the top;
- set to freeze.
An ordinary container is also used, for example, a container made of high-quality plastic. You should not take glass - it will crack when exposed to low temperatures.
Pieces of frozen fruit ice can be added to various cocktails, ice cream, and to make fruit teas. Tomato or cabbage mixtures are added to vegetable soups or mixtures for children.
Recommendations and lifehacks
To maintain nutritional value for as long as possible, use the following recommendations:
- When storing fresh juice in a freezer, re-freezing is not allowed. After defrosting, the drink can be stored for no more than 12 hours in total.
- For cooking, use only high-quality, proven ripe fruits, berries and vegetables. Rinse them thoroughly, sorting and removing moldy or fermented raw materials.
- If there is a small amount left, try using it in cooking (for example, freezing fruit cubes to add to smoothies).
- The shelf life is also affected by the material from which the packaging is made. The most suitable is a vacuum container, where oxidation processes are slowed down by pumping out air. Various microorganisms easily penetrate into ordinary plastic containers, accelerating decomposition processes.
- It is still better to roll large volumes of fresh juice into sterile glass jars.
- Adding a few drops of lemon juice to the contents of the container extends the life of some types of drink.
- It is not recommended to give concentrated fresh juices to children under 3 years old - it is better to offer your child juices for baby food in tetra-packs: “Babushkino Lukoshko”, “Frutonyanya”, “Agusha” or homemade compotes.
- If you find signs of spoilage, discard the product or use it at home (for example, adding it to face or hair masks; lemon juice can remove some stains). Remember that drinking a fermented or sour drink can lead to poisoning or intoxication of the body.
Fresh bar menu
A juice bar differs from a smoothie bar in having a wider range of options. In the second, customers are offered only thick cocktails and milkshakes based on juices, milk, yoghurts, ice cream and pieces of chopped fruits, berries or vegetables. To prepare them, they use kiwi, bananas, citrus fruits, watermelons, grapes, pomegranates, melons, pears, carrots, cucumbers, spinach, and beets. Refreshing drinks are in great demand in the summer.
The fresh bar menu is more varied. They serve not only “fresh” cocktails, but also other drinks (even coffee and tea). The most popular remain non-alcoholic versions of the famous cocktails “Mojito”, “Pina Colada”, “Absinthe Mix”, “Kir Royal”, “Black Jack”, “Sex on the Beach”, “Pelican”, “Bumblebee”. Cold drinks based on coffee are also in demand, which have a double effect: refreshing and invigorating.
In addition, the juice bar can serve light snacks: vegetable and fruit salads, ice cream, chocolate, and puffed pastries. Such an establishment cannot be called a classic one, where only drinks are sold, but the option is suitable for those who want to develop their business.
Shelf life
Long-term storage spoils the quality of the product: the percentage of vitamins and minerals decreases, the taste and color may change. Nutritionists recommend drinking 0.25 fresh juice per day three times a day and more than a glass of liquid at a time - do not cook. Sometimes the squeezed concentrate can be diluted with clean water. There is no point in consuming more than the specified volume - they will not bring any additional effect. The rest can be drunk later, although some of the benefits will be lost.
Juices have different shelf life. It is best to drink them within 10-15 minutes after preparation; you can leave them in the refrigerator for several hours. But the products will not remain in their original form, for example, apple juice will darken because it contains a lot of iron, which oxidizes under the influence of oxygen. If you pour it into a glass bottle and close it tightly, it will last for several hours, but you will need to keep it in the refrigerator. To prevent apple juice from becoming too dark, you can add a few drops of lemon or ascorbic acid to it.
It is better to drink carrot juice right away. But if you made a lot at once, then sealed in a bottle it will last for a maximum of two days, provided it is stored in the cold and in the dark. Cabbage juice is not stored at all - you need to drink it immediately, but it is recommended to keep beet juice for 40 minutes, and use it only infused and diluted; you can store it in the refrigerator for no more than two days.
Grape, raspberry, peach, strawberry and other juices containing a lot of sugar will quickly ferment, especially if left in a warm place. Drinks will last no more than a day in the refrigerator, like apple drinks, they will lose their appearance and taste. The shelf life of sweet juices can be increased by adding 10-15 drops of lemon per 0.5 liter of liquid to a freshly squeezed vegetable or fruit drink. The acid will serve as an additional preservative.
Freshly squeezed citrus juices (lemon, grapefruit, orange, tangerine) containing a lot of acids can be stored longer, but they will contain much less vitamins and minerals in a couple of days. The same applies to cherries, pomegranates, and currants.
How long can freshly squeezed beet juice be stored in the refrigerator?
The refrigerator is a great place to store beet juice. With its help, you can pause the fermentation process for several hours or even days. Step-by-step process of spinning and further storage in the refrigerator:
- Before use, cut off the tops of beets, capturing a small part of the root crop. Remove the rhizome. Thoroughly wash the vegetable under running water to remove soil residues.
- Peel the root vegetable using a knife or vegetable peeler. Cut the beets into small slices and pass through a meat grinder (you can use a juicer). The resulting pulp is squeezed through a sieve.
- Freshly squeezed juice is poured into a glass container. Add 0.5 tsp. citric acid or one slice of lemon. This will extend the shelf life and prevent premature fermentation. Place in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours.
- After time, the juice is poured into an airtight container (not aluminum) so that oxygen does not come into contact with the vitamins and they do not oxidize.
- Close the lid tightly and place it in the refrigerator in the coldest place, i.e., closer to the freezer.
The shelf life of freshly squeezed juice in the refrigerator is 72 hours. With each subsequent hour, beneficial vitamins become more and more oxidized, and the drink becomes unsuitable for consumption.
Depending on how much fresh beetroot you get after pressing, choose a container that is sufficient in volume. Pour so that it slightly overflows and there is no remaining air. When pouring beet juice, a pink foam forms, which is carefully removed.
Containers suitable for storing beet juice in the refrigerator:
- glass or ceramic container with an airtight lid or jar;
- plastic container with a tight-fitting lid;
- a vacuum container is an ideal solution, because it eliminates contact of air with the juice.
Make sure that the resulting sediment does not fall into the storage container, as it will provoke fermentation.
Beetroot juice also keeps well frozen:
- Make freshly squeezed juice as described above or using a juicer.
- After settling, pour it into containers (preferably plastic so that the glass does not burst) or cups.
- Place in the freezer.
When filling the container, do not add 2-3 cm to the top, since liquid increases in volume when frozen. This freezing method allows you to store freshly squeezed juice for up to 1-2 months.
To consume frozen beet juice, remove it from the freezer and leave it at room temperature. The second option for quickly defrosting a drink is to put it in warm water.
To avoid freezing the juice for long-term storage, keep several root vegetables in the vegetable compartment. You can prepare healthy fresh juice at any time.
Beetroot juice is not drunk in its pure form. As a rule, it is diluted with other drinks, for example:
- carrot;
- orange;
- cranberry;
- cucumber;
- celery
1 part beet juice is mixed with 3 parts of any other juice. Thus, beneficial substances are better absorbed in the human body.
Rules for storing apple nectar
To extend the shelf life of the drink, you can resort to special storage methods . It will stay fresh longer if you refrigerate, freeze, or can it, but each of these methods has certain pros and cons.
At room temperature, without boiling
It is not recommended to drink freshly squeezed juice that has been left in the room for more than 2 hours. The warmer the room, the higher the risk of food poisoning.
If you cannot consume the entire portion at once and there is no way to put the drink in the refrigerator, proceed as follows:
- Pour the drink into a glass container.
- Add lemon juice to it. For 1 glass of drink, 1/2 tsp is enough. lemon squeeze. This is done so that it does not darken.
- Cover the container with a lid. This way, contact with oxygen will be less active, and the nectar will remain fresh longer.
The undoubted advantage of this storage method is that the drink does not lose its beneficial properties. However, its significant disadvantage is the rapid deterioration of the product.

Preservation for the winter
You can preserve the drink for the winter in order to saturate your body with vitamins and microelements during the cold season. If you carry out the procedure according to the rules, it will be stored for six months or more.
Apple juice extracted using a juicer or meat grinder is canned as follows:
- Add citric acid and sugar to the nectar. For 1 liter of drink you will need 1 tbsp. l. lemons and 2 tbsp. l. Sahara.
- Jars and lids are thoroughly sterilized.
- The strained drink is poured into an enamel container.
- Bring the drink to 90 degrees. Any foam that appears is removed with a slotted spoon. When the juice starts to boil, turn off the fire.
- Filter the drink through cheesecloth and heat it again to 85 degrees.
- Roll the juice into jars.
After 10 days they can be removed to a place of permanent storage. Aluminum containers cannot be used for cooking.
Using a juicer makes it easier to preserve your drink . It is enough to cut the apples without peeling them or removing the seeds.
Disadvantages of the method:
- When the drink is heated, some of the beneficial substances are destroyed;
- the method requires time;
- Sugar should be used as a preservative.
- the taste becomes softer;
- it is possible to prepare a lot of juice at one time;
- under the influence of high temperatures all microbes will be destroyed;
- The shelf life increases by several months.
The juice turns out delicious if you add pears or pumpkin pulp to it.
Freshly squeezed juice carries the benefits of the fruits from which it is made. Each glass contains vitamins, microelements and fiber that the body needs.
The only drawback of the drinks is their short shelf life.
Read the article about how to properly store freshly squeezed apple juice in the refrigerator and without it in order to benefit from it all year round.
Low temperature will only slow down the fermentation processes, but will not be able to stop the process of destruction of vitamins and microelements.
How to choose beets for a drink
The taste is influenced by which vegetable is chosen for preparing fresh juice. To get tasty and nutritious beet juice, you shouldn’t buy the first root vegetables you come across in the store.
What you need to know to choose the right vegetable:
- To prepare fresh juice, root vegetables of dark burgundy, red or purple colors are used.
- There should be no white or black veins inside, which indicate the depravity of the beet or its immaturity.
- Oval or spherical varieties are excellent.
- There should be no rot, mold, mechanical damage, or dents on the surface of the skin.
- You should not take root vegetables that are too large (more than 12-15 cm in diameter), because they contain a large amount of harmful substances.
- Green tops indicate that the vegetable is young and juicy, which means you will get a sweet and tasty fresh juice.
To prepare the drink, you need to use juicy apples, which have a pleasant taste and rich aroma. Such fruits crunch when bitten, but they may look inconspicuous.
The best varieties:
- Antonovka.
- Grushovka.
- Golden.
- Fuji.
- Honey Crisp.
- Mac.
- Arlet.
Winter varieties are not suitable for making a drink. The fruits produce little juice, so it is better to send them to the cellar unchanged.
How to tell if an apple has gone bad
Fresh apples are quite firm, have a bright skin and a pleasant smell. They have no dents, soft spots or areas of discoloration. When you bite into them they are crispy and juicy.
Here are a few signs that an apple has begun to spoil:
- soft spots or dents
- wrinkled peel
- depressions and brown spots
- liquid leaks out from under the peel
- soft texture
- mealy or mild and grainy taste
You can usually tell if an apple has started to spoil by examining its appearance. Apples that have spoiled should be thrown away.

Prepare a mixture of pumpkin and apple juices using a blender
Apple juice is universal; you can mix any fruits and vegetables with it. The main thing is that they combine to taste. Do you want to water your kids all winter and not worry about the contents? Then it is better to prepare the juice yourself from those products that contain more beneficial properties in their composition. Let's try to make pumpkin-apple juice, which will surely win the hearts of your household.
We will need:
- Large butternut squash - 1 pc.
All other ingredients are based on one kilogram of peeled pumpkin:
- Water 1.5 l.
- Sugar 150 gr.
- Apples 0.5 kg.
- Lemon juice 1 tbsp. l.
Preparation:
1. First, let's deal with the pumpkin - you need to peel it and remove all the seeds. Then cut it into small pieces.
2. Place the vegetables in a saucepan and add one glass of water at a time. Now put everything on the stove and wait for it to boil.
3. As soon as the pumpkin pieces are ready, you can add apples that have been peeled and washed under running water. By the way, it’s also better to cut them into small slices.
4. Set the heat to low and cover with a lid until all the food is fully cooked.
5. Now we need a blender with a soup attachment. Using it, we grind the contents of the pan into a thick puree.
6. Prepare boiled hot water with which we will dilute the finished mass. We take 1.5 liters of water per 1 kilogram of gruel.
7. Mix everything and add sugar to the juice. If you want something sweeter, then it’s better to completely rely on your taste.
8. Bring the pumpkin-apple drink to a boil and skim off the resulting foam.
9. Now, if desired, you can add lemon juice. Then boil for about 10 minutes and pour into pre-sterilized jars.
Of course, after screwing, we will turn the jars over onto their lids and make sure that everything is closed tightly and there are no leaks. Leave them under a warm blanket until they cool down.
Now your super healthy assorted apple and pumpkin juice is ready! Try, help yourself and enjoy a wonderful, tasty homemade drink. Be healthy!
I have a very large family and therefore we always had and still have supplies for the winter season. I know firsthand about all the intricacies and processes of preparing apple juice. Based on my extensive experience, I would like to share with you so that you can close jars with an amazing drink just as easily and deliciously.
Store juices
There are no artificial substitutes in natural products, so when the package indicates that some components have been added, this drink cannot be called natural juice. Such additives that indicate the unnaturalness of the product include:
- sugar;
- dyes;
- flavor enhancers;
- flavorings.
The shorter the shelf life indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging, the more natural the juice and the more health benefits it will bring. Storage conditions for packaged juices are the same as for homemade, freshly squeezed drinks. Also, juices from the package should be poured into glass containers and stored in a refrigerator. Opened juice from a tetra pack, even in the refrigerator, can only stand for one day; a long storage period can lead to digestive problems when consumed.
It is not advisable to store freshly squeezed juices, as well as store-bought juices from a package, for a long time and keep them at room temperature for longer than 10-15 minutes. Vegetable (with the exception of cabbage) and sour juices (which contain a high content of ascorbic acid) are stored the longest; sweet juices quickly begin to ferment and even if refrigerated they cannot stand for longer than 24 hours.
General rules of use
As you know, any fruit contains quite a lot of sugars. Unlike those found in store-bought juices, natural ones break down faster and do not cause significant harm to the body of an adult or child. But in any case, you should not increase the amount of sugar in your daily diet, because this negatively affects the functioning of the liver, kidneys, stomach and immune system.
It is recommended to dilute strongly sweet juices in a one-to-one ratio with boiled water or mineral water (no matter with or without gas). Sour fruits, such as orange or lemon, do not contain much sugar, so they can be drunk undiluted. But acid has a negative effect on teeth, especially if a person’s enamel coating is destroyed, then it is better to drink juice from sour fruits through a straw.
Nutritionists recommend drinking juice from fresh fruits or vegetables during the day. Not everything can be consumed in the morning on an empty stomach. For example, it is recommended to abstain from sour nectars. Even if they are diluted with water, they can provoke excessive acidity of the gastrointestinal tract. You should not drink freshly squeezed juices at night either - they stimulate the appetite, and there is a risk of eating too much at night, thereby clearly not doing your figure a favor.
The best time to drink freshly squeezed juices is the day between meals. They are consumed between breakfast and lunch, between lunch and dinner, for one of two lunches or snacks.
It is better to drink juice not during meals, but a little later. The body will thank you if you drink a tasty drink 25-30 minutes after lunch.
