How to clean a down jacket at home

Dry cleaning a down jacket can easily replace wet washing, since in many cases the item has a complex composition and can simply become deformed when wet. In order to bring the product into proper shape and quickly but effectively get rid of stains, first identify the most problematic areas. Usually this is the collar, sleeves, pockets and the bottom of the down jacket, which can get drops of dirt when walking.

Before cleaning the down jacket from grease and immediately washing large areas, try the product you are going to use to remove dirt on the wrong side of the product so as not to spoil the material. Also, try not to rub the fabric with your hands or rough brushes. Apply all cleaning compounds to the down jacket using a sponge or cotton pad, and excess can be washed with a soft, damp microfiber cloth, absorbent cloth or wet wipes.

The most common model of autumn Reima boots. Review after a season of wearing.

Today we will talk about autumn boots from Reima. The model is called Patter and, according to my observations, this is the most common model of autumn boots from this company. I often see kids wearing these shoes.

The color palette of the model is wide, there are colors for both girls and boys.

Price: during the season, the price of boots fluctuates around 4,500 rubles. Not cheap of course. I managed to buy them in the summer on sale at the Mothercare store for 1,599 rubles.

Country of origin: Vietnam

Compound:

Outsole: Thermo Plastic Rubber

Upper: 80% polyester, 20% polyurethane

Insole: 90% EVA, 10% Polyester

Lining: 100% polyester

This was the only color for the girl. My daughter loves all forms of pink and red in her wardrobe, so we took it without hesitation. The color of the model is called Bright Red.

First, I’ll show you what happens to boots if the child is a pig.

I agree that the pollution here is severe, but as practice shows, shoes become dirty in the first 10 minutes of walking on the site. I brush or machine wash these boots once every week or two. About 6 times the shoes probably had to be thoroughly cleaned, that’s for sure.

Here the boots showed their best side: nothing came apart at the seams, was not deformed, the paint did not come off or fade.

Now I will show you the result of washing. I wash them at 40 degrees in the washing machine along with the overalls, after placing the boots in a net for washing underwear (by the way, an irreplaceable thing, I wash soft toys and small children’s socks in it so that they don’t get stuck in the crevices during washing).

After an hour of washing. The result is good. There is, of course, ingrained dirt in the seams, but if you look very closely, at a distance of half a meter you can no longer see anything.

So on this point (care) I give it a five. It's just that the colors are not so good for dirty, rainy St. Petersburg.

I would like to immediately say about the insole in this model. It has a Happy Fit pattern, which makes it easy to determine if the shoe is the right size. Otherwise, it’s a very ordinary insole; I didn’t even take a photo, because after washing, the Happy Fit markings were simply erased. So I can't demonstrate it. What the Happy Fit system is can be read in the review of Reima Visby winter boots.

I didn’t have a box; at the checkout the shoes were simply put in a bag with a receipt. But I don’t need to, I can’t stand a bunch of shoe boxes.

This model is designed for spring, very much, the temperature range is +10 and somewhere down to 0. Some wear it down to minus 5, with a warm sock.

The good thing about shoes is that they are suitable both for the street and for visiting (for example, a shopping center, you don’t have to worry about your feet getting sweaty).

The sole is finely ribbed, not suitable for winter. The baby will simply slide on the ice in one of these (I observed this one frosty day).

These boots are not afraid of even small puddles. This is facilitated by the wear-resistant and dirt-repellent upper material. I confirm 100%. The water drains and the shoes do not get wet. What’s noteworthy is that my daughter’s noses “get off track” on any shoes; this model did not receive any damage at all during 2.5 months of daily wear in a kindergarten and playground. You can see it from the photo of the noses above.

The boots have two Velcro straps; even a 2.5-3 year old child can fasten and unfasten the shoes himself and put them on and take them off on his own. The Velcro is also of high quality and has not worn out over the course of wearing it for 2.5 months.

On the back of the heel there is a round reflective element with the English letter R. Reima generally has reflective elements on any clothing and shoes - Finns think about the safety of children in the dark.

The tongue is traditionally sewn together with the base of the shoe, this prevents moisture and dirt from penetrating inside, as well as such an unpleasant phenomenon as the tongue jamming inside. The inside of the tongue is marked, where you can also sign the baby's name with a pen.

The inside of the boot does not have any fur or other insulation. You can only see the mesh fabric, as in the photo above.

The boots are made of membrane, as evidenced by the ReimaTec marking. The shoes do not get wet, but they release moisture well, so your feet don’t sweat or get cold.

Well, in general, these boots look beautiful and not bulky. They themselves are very light. They will go well with jeans and a warm dress and with overalls for a walk. Universal in a word

Pros:

  • variety of colors
  • light and beautiful
  • membrane
  • dirt- and water-repellent
  • convenient to take off/put on
  • easy to wash

Minuses:

I'm happy with the boots, I'll buy them in a different color for future years. 5 points and thumbs up from me! I recommend!

Cleaning a down jacket: several useful life hacks at home

The need to clean a down jacket with your own hands is especially relevant in the summer, when there is still a lot of time before the onset of the winter season and you can prepare things in advance and store them carefully. In autumn and winter there will be no time for this: a warm item is used almost every day and there will most likely be no time left to put it in order.

In winter, regardless of color and material, a down jacket gets dirty quite quickly in urban conditions: dust, splashes of dirt, particles of salt reagents, dirt in public transport, and stains from precipitation remain on the surface of the material. Therefore, it is important to know how to clean a down jacket without washing, so that it always looks neat and does not wear out. Dry cleaning is good because it does not depend on the type of down jacket filling, since the impact of cleaning agents affects only the top layer of the product.

You can return your down jacket to its cleanliness and presentable appearance using the methods described below. There are many of them, so in any case you will choose something you like and you can clean your favorite down jacket without washing, without leaving home.

Dry cleaning a down jacket at home: simple stains

There is a universal remedy that will help remove grease stains from particularly vulnerable areas and thoroughly clean the collar of a down jacket. It consists of ammonia, dishwashing detergent and ordinary fresh water. This method is suitable for cleaning a down jacket from relatively recent stains of medium complexity; the down jacket material can be of any color, as well as for regularly refreshing problem areas such as sleeves, collar and cuffs when worn.

To prepare a miracle cure you need to do the following:

Afterwards, remove the remaining product with napkins and lightly blot the area with a damp cloth. Remember, to clean a greasy down jacket, you don’t need to wash it!

Features of clothing made from membrane fabrics

Membrane fabric or membrane is a special fabric that repels air and moisture coming from the outside, but allows water vapor to pass away from the body. You can say that she is breathing. The material has a multilayer structure:

  • top layer made of wear-resistant material;
  • middle - membrane fabric;
  • the lower one is soft material that does not irritate the skin.

Membrane materials are widely used for the production of outerwear for tourists and children.

What to do before washing

To avoid ruining your overalls:

  1. Check all pockets before washing. Take out all the items from them.
  2. Wipe heavily soiled spots with a cloth or sponge soaked in a small amount of detergent.
  3. Turn the items inside out if you plan to wash them in the washing machine.

It is better not to expose children's outerwear to water again. Light stains are wiped off with a damp sponge.
