When buying bright clothes, I fix the color using simple ingredients (the clothes don’t fade when washed)

Every season, fashion changes: some things become outdated and are replaced by new models. Only neat and well-groomed things will never go out of fashion. Whatever model you prefer, it is important that the clothes always look good. And this requires special care: timely removal of pellets, proper washing, drying, ironing, and storage.

Washing harms fabrics the most: detergents and hard water wash out the color and time after time the item loses its attractiveness and becomes faded. How can this be avoided? How to keep things bright when washing? Our advice will help you with this.

How to wash colored clothes

When washing black clothes , you can use a little trick: add 200 ml of vinegar diluted in a small amount of cold water to the washing machine drum. Vinegar “fixes” the colors and prevents them from quickly washing out.

To prevent blue items from losing their color , they need to be washed with powder with blue granules or use regular blue. Prepare a weak aqueous solution from it and add it to the drum of the washing machine.

Items of all shades of blue and red will retain their brightness longer if you add regular baking soda to the water when rinsing. You just need to dissolve it in water first.

The pink color of your clothes will help preserve the ammonia. You only need a couple of teaspoons to wash it. Simply add alcohol to the same compartment where you add the washing powder or cleaning gel.

Clothing in brown shades will always be bright if you rinse it in a tea solution (brewing black loose leaf tea). Depending on the intensity of the color of the items, make the appropriate tea leaves - strong or slightly weaker, and add it when rinsing. You can also use tea leaves to maintain beige shades, but for these purposes you will need a very weak tea solution.

Remember also that very often the fading of things is due to the fact that the detergent was poorly rinsed. To prevent this from happening and to avoid white streaks on your clothes, try to wash your clothes in small “portions” and rinse things not once, but several times.

Fixing the color

If you have a bright new item and are afraid to wash it, try fixing the color naturally. There are several methods for this.

The first of them involves the use of natural vinegar. Fill a bowl with cold water and add a glass of vinegar. Dip your new bright purchase into the resulting solution and leave for a few minutes. Vinegar will help fix the color of the item. Before washing, lightly rinse clothing to remove any residue.

Saline solution also fixes color well. To prepare it, fill a washing basin with water and add a cup of table salt to it. Clothes should be left in this solution for several hours. This is a simple and economical way to preserve the color of things.

Traditional methods

If you don’t have special means at hand, you can use traditional methods. At the same time, also take into account the composition of the fabric.

Hydrogen peroxide

You can use peroxide to restore accidentally stained white cotton. To do this, the product is immersed in an enamel bowl with water, two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide are added there and put on fire. The water should boil, after which the fire turns off. When the water has cooled completely, the products should be removed, rinsed and dried.

White items made from other more delicate materials are soaked in a warm (not hot!) solution of soda and peroxide. For 3 liters of water, take two teaspoons of baking soda and the same amount of peroxide, stir and put things in there for an hour. After this, rinse and dry.

Attention

Do not use salt and vinegar when trying to restore stained fabric. These products, on the contrary, fix the dye in the fibers, and they are usually used when rinsing so that the item does not “fad”.

Ammonia

It can also be used for color. Add ammonia to warm water (a tablespoon per liter of water) and leave colored laundry in this solution for 2 hours. After that they wash it.

What to do if the item has faded?

If you have not completed the important step of fixing the color, and after washing the shade of your item has changed, then do not panic. There are several ways to solve this problem.

You can try using textile dye to return the item to its original color. If the item is monochromatic, you can easily restore it to its original beauty using this set. You just need to choose the right shade. Fabric paints can be easily purchased at the store.

When using this method, you should consider what material your item is made of. Based on this, it is necessary to select the washing mode: temperature and cycle duration.

Potassium permanganate against stains

First, dampen the fabric and rub with laundry soap.

Then dilute several crystals of potassium permanganate in a glass of water to obtain a medium-pink solution.

Fill the soaking container with boiling water and pour in the solution.

Place the item previously rubbed with laundry soap.

Tie a plastic bag on top.

The laundry should be kept for at least 4 hours; it is acceptable to leave it overnight. Then squeeze and rinse, and the stains disappear without a trace. The method is suitable not only for white, but also colored linen made from natural fabrics. For 5 kitchen towels, 1 cup of manganese solution and 2 liters of boiling water are enough.

How to restore color to black clothes using chemicals

How to restore the color of black things with chemicals
If home methods do not help, and gels and powders for black, for example “Laska”, are powerless, then try re-dying. There are many special compounds for textiles in household chemical stores. They have a number of advantages:

  • The substances that make up the dyes do not remain in the fabric fibers after use, and therefore rarely cause an allergic reaction;
  • The paints are suitable for restoring the color of any material, both wool and silk. It doesn’t matter what caused the product to fade, the result will definitely please you. The price of such funds is affordable;
  • To “save” a thing, one coloring is enough. At the same time, you will be 100% sure that your favorite jeans or dress will become beautiful as before.

Textile paint is easy to use; washing with a special chemical is usually sufficient. For the procedure to be successful, follow these rules:

  1. When buying paint, choose high-quality and more expensive paint so as not to spoil the textiles.
  2. Read and follow the instructions carefully.
  3. Choose a product based on the type of fabric.
  4. Work in rubber gloves.
  5. Dilute the composition in a steel or enamel container.

If several items need dyeing, process them one at a time. If you do not follow the recommendations, you will get an uneven color with spots and streaks.

The most popular dyes include:

  • Dylon is a powder that is used for natural materials. Coloring occurs during the washing process;
  • Technochem is a universal preparation for any fabric. Designed for hand washing and machine washing;
  • DKT-38 – dyes natural, silk, mixed fabrics and synthetics;
  • DKT-37 – intended for polyamide material, wool and mixed types of fabrics;
  • Simplicol – suitable for natural fabrics.

High-quality dyes do not violate the structure of products and are easy to apply. Manufacturers claim that such chemicals are not dangerous to human health. Be sure to follow the instructions to get a good result and not harm your clothes. If all else fails or you don’t want to deal with chemicals, take the item to a dry cleaner, where specialists will return it to its original color without harming it.

How to fix paint on fabric?

Mix 10 liters of water with half a glass of vinegar. Stir the solution thoroughly and lower the item on which you want to fix the paint for 5-15 minutes. Take the item out and rinse it in cold water several times to remove the strong vinegar smell.

Washing Tips

The most important rule of any housewife is to sort laundry by color and material. Shades can be grouped with each other, for example, red-yellow or blue-green, black and gray. Even if the item sheds a little, it will not cause much harm. In some cases, such proximity is even useful, for example, a faded black item will tint other black items well, especially old or faded ones.

The optimal temperature for washing fading items, and indeed anything colored, is 30-40 degrees. At higher temperatures, fabrics shed more.

When an item sheds a lot, it can be washed separately by hand. First you need to dilute the powder, otherwise white streaks or blue spots from the granules will remain on the fabric, then soak. Special attention to the spin cycle. Dripping water can leave unsightly streaks of paint drips. To do this, the item is hung vertically and inside out. You can use the spin cycle in the washing machine.

It is best to choose detergents for colored fabrics for washing. Universal powders often contain soda or bleach, which is detrimental to colored linen in general. There are special napkins for washing faded items. At 40 degrees they cope quite well. For one bookmark, it is enough to put 1-2 napkins in the drum.

Particular attention to stain removers. Since the color is poorly fixed to the fabric, it will easily come off along with the stubborn stain, leaving behind an area several shades lighter.
