You have to wash plates, pots and cutlery every day, and hot water doesn’t always remove grease, so you simply can’t do without dishwashing detergent.

Which one is the best, most effective and economical? A rating based on customer preferences will help us answer these questions.

What does regular dishwashing detergent consist of?

Dish detergent most often consists of the following components.

  • Surfactants (surfactants). This is the main active ingredient, which is responsible for the quality of washing. Surfactants are divided into four types. Anionic ones are the most effective and cheapest, but very dangerous, capable of accumulating in the body and causing various diseases. Unfortunately, 70% of all detergents contain these components. Cationic - have bactericidal properties and are less toxic, but cope much worse with fat. Nonionic - completely dissolves in water and has a beneficial effect on the skin, but does not form foam well, so they are used only in combination with anionic substances. Amphoteric - have a gentle effect on the skin, have good cleaning and bactericidal properties. They are obtained from natural raw materials, so they are quite expensive components.
  • The solvent is most often ordinary water.
  • Enzymes are enzymes that act as catalysts that speed up chemical reactions. With their help, it is easier to remove hard-to-wash organic contaminants.
  • Foam stabilizers that maintain high soapiness. The more foam is formed, the more effective the product.
  • Abrasives. Tiny solid particles (silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, crushed pumice) that mechanically remove heavy dirt.
  • Oxidizing agents responsible for bleaching, disinfection and destruction of organic compounds.
  • Thickeners that increase the viscosity of the product.
  • Dyes are responsible for beautiful color.
  • Fragrance – for a pleasant smell. The less aroma, the better - allergy sufferers will definitely appreciate this.
  • Preservatives . Preserves all ingredients for a long time.
  • Protective components. Reduce the impact of “chemicals” on the skin of the hands. These include aloe vera, glycerin, pH regulator, natural extracts and plant extracts.

Be sure to use gloves when washing dishes using chemicals. Detergents have a detrimental effect on the skin of the hands, destroying the protective lipid layer, as a result of which all the harmful “chemistry” penetrates the body, causing irritation, itching, allergies, skin diseases - eczema, psoriasis and others.

Why cleaning your home is dangerous to life.

At a household chemicals production plant, employees dress in protective clothing as if they were preparing for a chemical attack. This is a respirator, rubber gloves, safety glasses, special gowns or overalls. It seems that such enterprises produce not household chemicals, but means of mass destruction. And special attention is paid to safety in such places, since the health of workers or their lives in general directly depends on it! It would seem, why such difficulties? Let's figure it out.

At a household chemicals production plant, employees dress in protective clothing as if they were preparing for a chemical attack.

It’s unlikely that any of us would think of putting on a respirator or rubber gloves when cleaning a sink or bathroom. Meanwhile, in terms of risk, modern cleaning in an apartment is not inferior to a working day at a chemical plant.

Oksana Beloborodko moved from Ukraine to Moscow six months ago. I got a job at a cleaning company. There wasn’t enough money, so the girl took on any part-time job. Oksana considered her neighbor’s offer to clean his two-room apartment for 5,000 rubles a great success. Oksana: “The apartment was in terrible condition. I washed it from morning to evening. Cabinets, walls, ceilings, plumbing. He left in the morning. He said that he would return late in the evening from work and open it. It was impossible to open the windows to ventilate. Because they were installed the other day, it was impossible to open them for a couple of days.” After inhaling toxic fumes, Oksana lost consciousness. The owner returned home and immediately called an ambulance. Oksana spent more than a month in the hospital.

More than 200,000 residents of Moscow and the Moscow region suffer from allergic diseases associated with the use of household chemicals. At the same time, according to the results of a survey, Muscovites constantly use up to 30 different cleaning products, washing dishes and laundry.

The survey revealed that most buyers rely on advertising when purchasing household products. And only a few carefully study the composition of liquids and powders.

Types of detergents

Dish detergents are divided into the following types according to their consistency.

  • Powders and pastes. Thanks to the abrasive particles they contain, you can cope with complex stains. The main drawback is that if you force it too hard, the coating on the dishes will be damaged.
  • Liquid products - gel, balm, liquid and others. They destroy fat perfectly, they can be used in both hot and cold water, they wash off well, but they can cause allergies and dry out the skin of the hands.
  • Tablets and capsules. They are used to wash dishes in dishwashers.
  • Concentrate. It has an enhanced concentrated composition. Before use, the product is diluted with water according to the instructions.

Did you know that if you mix one tablespoon of liquid detergent with a glass of salt and 120 ml of nine percent vinegar, you can get a cheap weed killer. It is enough to spray unwanted plants with a spray bottle. The salt and vinegar will dry out the leaves, and the detergent will act as Velcro.

What parameters should you pay attention to?

What criteria are important when choosing a dishwashing detergent?

Washability

This factor is one of the decisive ones, since even a minimal residual trace of “chemicals” on plates can be harmful to health.

Dishwashing liquid must be easily washed off from any surface, be it glass, porcelain or enamel.

Safety

Always pay attention to the composition. Cheap products consist entirely of harmful synthetic substances that are poorly washed off from dishes, then enter the body with food and can cause a number of serious diseases.

It is better to buy an expensive but high-quality product than to save money and use a cheap and dubious one.

The presence of citric acid, alcohol, sugar, plant extracts and other natural ingredients is welcome.

Efficiency

Even the dirtiest and greasy plate or pan should be washed quickly and easily. This is exactly what every housewife dreams of.

The product should foam well. The more foam, the more effectively and efficiently dirt can be removed. In addition, the “foam” factor affects efficiency - the consumption of such detergent will be several times less.

Environmental friendliness

Study the composition. The more natural substances a detergent contains, the safer it will be for health and the environment.

An environmentally friendly product must be biodegradable, not contain surfactants, phosphates, formaldehydes, and not have a negative effect on the skin and respiratory system. And at the same time, it effectively removes dirt and grease without leaving behind odors or traces.

Such products are not cheap because they are made from natural raw materials. The packaging will be marked ECO.

Other options

  • Label. The first step is to read the information on the label. It indicates the manufacturer, release date, shelf life, composition of the product, precautions for use, method of application.
  • Package. Evaluate the appearance of the bottle, volume, integrity, transparency. Large bottles are more affordable, but are inconvenient to use. In transparent ones, you can evaluate the thickness and color in the store. An important factor is the shape of the bottle. All kinds of notches on the sides or a ribbed surface are better than a flat and smooth one, since it is much more convenient to hold with wet or oily hands.
  • Smell. Fragrances are designed to destroy persistent food odors from the washing surface, for example, fish or onions. The most popular scents are sea freshness, lemon, and aloe vera.

Nowadays you can buy any detergent in thick plastic packaging and pour it into a convenient bottle or dispenser at home. Thus, there is an opportunity to save at least a little.

Varieties

Few people prefer to use disposable tableware at home. Therefore, the question of which detergent to choose is relevant in almost every family. In order to choose the right one, before purchasing, be sure to read the basis on which it is made and the instructions for use. It is also recommended to have an idea of how the products differ from each other. Today, the following types of dishwashers are available in stores:

  1. Liquids, gels and balms - before purchasing, you need to read what the product consists of and pay attention to its consistency. It is not recommended to purchase excessively liquid products, as they are quickly consumed and are inconvenient to use. It is also undesirable to buy those that have even a slight sediment. As for gels, they form more foam, are practical, dissolve well and are economical.
  2. Powders - designed to remove heavily soiled surfaces with stubborn grease. The disadvantage of such products is that they can scratch the surface.
  3. Tablets and capsules – used for PMM.
  4. Concentrates - many housewives prefer concentrates, despite the fact that they are expensive. Before use, the concentrate must be diluted with water. After this, a large volume of liquid is obtained, which is enough for a long period of time. When diluted, the properties of the content are not lost.

A modern detergent should be effective, safe, foam well and have a pleasant, unobtrusive aroma. Among other things, when choosing, it is best to give preference to a product that will meet all the requirements listed above and have a dispenser. In such a case, it will be convenient to use and it will be spent economically.

Now there are many companies producing dishwashing detergents. When giving preference to the optimal option, you should take into account the manufacturer’s composition.

DIY dishwashing liquid - popular recipes

Household chemicals, unfortunately, are completely unsafe. It can cause allergies, breathing problems, and also dry out the skin of your hands if you wash dishes without gloves. The problem can be solved using homemade remedies.

Ingredients:

  • baby or laundry soap, grated on a fine grater - a quarter cup;
  • liquid olive soap - a quarter cup;

  • water – 300 ml.

Boil water and pour it into the crushed soap. Stir well until completely dissolved. Add baking soda and stir again. Now it's time for liquid soap. Recipe No. 2

Ingredients:

  • brown laundry soap - 0.5 bars;
  • water – 1 l;
  • baking soda and dry mustard - 3 tablespoons each;
  • ammonia (ammonia) – 4 tbsp.

Dry laundry soap is rubbed on a fine grater and dissolved in hot water. The mixture must be cooled, then add the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly until smooth. Close the resulting product with a lid and let it brew for two hours, after which you can use it.

Recipe No. 3

Ingredients:

  • grated brown laundry soap - 2 tbsp.
  • water – 1 l;
  • glycerin – 8-10 tablespoons.

Soap shavings are dissolved in hot water and then mixed with glycerin. If desired, you can add any essential oil for scent.

Vinegar for shine

Table vinegar is another resident of any kitchen that is always ready to help in the fight to keep dishes clean. It is not used for daily washing of plates and cutlery, but if you need to restore the shine of glassware, rid it of limescale or disinfect it, there is no better product. Prepare vinegar water from:

  • 1 l. warm water;
  • from 3 tbsp. l. up to 200 ml of table vinegar. Depends on the purpose: 3 tbsp is enough to add shine to the glass. l., and for disinfection you can take more.

For a shine, rinse clean glassware with vinegar water. By treating with an aqueous solution of table vinegar, you can also restore the shine to steel pots, ladles and frying pans. To do this, you need to wipe them with a sponge soaked in vinegar water, if necessary, rubbing the contaminated areas more intensively, and wipe dry with a towel.

An aqueous solution of table vinegar (1:5) can be used to disinfect kitchen utensils such as cutting boards, cutlery storage containers, plate drying trays, etc.

Useful tips

  • If you want to save money, do not squeeze the detergent onto the sponge - it is better to dissolve it in a bowl of water and wet the sponge with this soapy solution from time to time. Thanks to this life hack, your detergent consumption will be significantly reduced.
  • Try to use the one soap sponge rule. Wash dishes until the sponge foams.
  • Liquid detergents can be used as an effective stain remover. Even the oldest stains will disappear from clothes, carpets, tiles, hobs, furniture and household appliances if you apply a few drops to the contaminated area, rub with a sponge, wait half an hour, and then rinse.
  • Use synthetic detergents only when absolutely necessary - if the dishes are too greasy or there is no hot water.
  • Under no circumstances mix different products in one bottle - the consequences can be completely unpredictable.

For furniture care

Products for treating hard furniture elements are called polishes. Suitable for caring for varnished and polished surfaces. Perfectly removes dirty spots and stains, adds shine, and protects from settling dust.

Pronto Antidust

This is the most effective and popular furniture polish. It is produced in the form of an aerosol, so it is convenient to use and is consumed economically. It perfectly removes dust and prevents its re-settlement for a long time, copes with fingerprints, gives wooden surfaces shine and a pleasant smell. Cost - from 150 to 200 rubles.

Products from “green” companies. How consumers are deceived.

We'll look at some dishwashing detergents from some well-known companies that claim to have eco-friendly products. We will not focus on the companies themselves, but will look at their products that they offer to consumers. These products have the right to exist, but if the composition does not comply with environmental safety, then why talk about it? Or, in the pursuit of profit, something cheap and harmful is presented as expensive and not harmful, often using unfamiliar names to mislead the consumer.

A popular company that offers a wide range of detergents. Today we are interested in a supposedly safe dishwashing detergent. Let's look at the composition - sodium ethoxysulfate of fatty alcohols. You can see other names on the labels: sodium laureth-2 sulfate, sodium ethoxysulfate of fatty alcohols, C12-14 sodium ethoxysulfate. All this is the same substance, named by different nomenclatures - sodium laureth sulfate.

Or sodium alkanesulfonate is the same surfactant, obtained chemically, close to SLS. Why is sodium alkanesulfonate used? Due to its low price and high viscosity. It is also used in the oil and gas industry.

SLS is often replaced in the composition with equally harmful substances.

Let's turn to the specialists on the Scientific Cosmetology website and see the results of the study of this component. Scientists conducted an experiment. Volunteers were alternately applied surfactants to their skin and the reaction was assessed. The results of the impact were displayed in the form of a diagram. Let's look at this diagram.

Results of testing the irritant effect of various surfactants.

Each column is divided into three parts to visually show us the effect of these funds. The shaded area under the designation "c" shows the level of peeling, the dotted area under the designation "b" shows to what extent the product causes erythema (severe redness of the skin caused by dilation of the capillaries), and under the letter "a" we see which product causes the appearance of cracks.

According to this diagram, we see what harm this or that surfactant causes.

We are specifically interested in sodium alkanesulfonate, which we saw on the label as part of a supposedly environmentally friendly detergent.

It turns out that sodium alkanesulfonate is one of the most irritating surfactants.

Also, according to the diagram, we see that alkyl sulfates and sodium alkanesulfonate have the most irritating effect, which we observe in the presented detergent. That is, sodium alkanesulfonate is at the same harmful level as SLS. Of all the products, they are the only ones that cause cracks in the skin. Draw a conclusion about the environmental friendliness of this product, as stated by the manufacturer.

And this French company, popular on the Russian market, claims to offer natural cosmetics and household products. I won’t say anything about cosmetics (we’re not talking about that now), but it’s worth talking about dishwashing detergent. It contains dangerous SLS, and also sodium chloride (sodium chloride) - salt for thickening. But they didn’t forget to stick a green leaf with the word “naturel”. Our goal is not to criticize other companies, but to open your eyes to the deception that is often presented as the truth.

It contains the same SLES and sodium chloride, an unchanged pair.

And the distributors of this company at the presentation are ready to even drink this product for the sake of effect, proving its safety. But looking at the composition, I would not do this, because in the composition we see dangerous anionic surfactants.
