Sambo wrestling shoes
Wrestling shoes are special shoes needed for sambo training.
The main difference from shoes for other martial arts is the high shaft , which protects the ankle joint. According to Sambo rules, all wrestling shoes must have only lacing - without unnecessary parts that could injure an opponent.
We offer to purchase wrestling shoes made from natural leather and suede . That will not create inconvenience during classes and competitions, and will help you concentrate on the main thing - SAMBO!

Historical reference
Martial arts historian Dave Coffman argues that the emergence and development of martial arts is a long historical process. In his opinion, wrestling originated one hundred and fifty years earlier than boxing. Many experts associate this hypothesis with the time of the appearance of the first sports shoes. This theory has a right to exist. However, if you dig deeper, you will notice that even in the era of Ancient Rome, many gladiators were shod in special shoes, vaguely reminiscent of modern wrestling and boxing shoes.
The main entertainment in Ancient Rome was gladiatorial fights, which took place in the arenas of huge amphitheaters. The fighters were chosen from among slaves, captured soldiers, and criminals. Before competing in the arena, gladiators were trained and then forced to fight each other to the death. Slave gladiators performed barefoot. However, if they fought under the guise of soldiers, then special shoes were included in the mandatory equipment.
Sandals were made from bull or deer skin. The sole was usually made of wood. The top and straps were attached to it, thanks to which the shoes were fixed on the fighters’ feet. Metal shields (the ancestors of modern shingards) were worn over the shoes. In the event of the death of a gladiator, the protective equipment was removed and passed on to the next fighter.
About Sambo
Sambo is a relatively young, but at the same time effective martial art that arose at the beginning of the 20th century in the USSR.
This synthesis of various state martial arts and judo turned out to be surprisingly effective in the fight against the enemy, and that is why sambo became an extremely popular form of martial art.
Now Sambo is practiced all over the world and is deservedly considered one of the most effective self-defense systems. And if you decide to take up this type of wrestling, then you will probably need suitable equipment.
Hand washing rules
- Before washing a kimono, look at the label and follow the recommendations;
- Before washing, turn the kimono inside out and only then put it in water;
- Soak the clothes for several hours in water with detergent at a temperature of 40-50 degrees;
- We wash black and colored items in warm water at a temperature of up to 40 degrees;
- After soaking, you need to wash and rinse the items several times until the detergent is completely washed off;
- When washing, pay special attention to the collar, cuffs and armpit area, as these areas get dirty more and faster than others;
- During the final rinse, add a little fabric or hair conditioner to the water to make the fabric soft and comfortable to the touch;
- Wring out the product carefully, without twisting, and hang to dry in a well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, batteries and electrical appliances;
- If there are difficult stains on your kimono, you can use non-chlorine stain removers. Such products contain components that penetrate deep into the fibers and clean the product in a few minutes;
- Laundry soap will also help remove stains. Due to its high acid content, it removes almost every stain. Lather the contaminated area, leave for half an hour and rinse, and finally wash using the usual method.
- Instead of laundry soap, you can use special Antipyatin soap. This is an inexpensive, accessible and safe product that easily removes various types of contaminants. It does not cause allergies and is great for washing baby clothes.

What should you take?
photo from the website https://sambo.ru
So, you preferred sambo to all other martial arts, perhaps you have already met a coach and even attended several classes. During classes, you could see that part of the group was training in blue kimonos, another part in burgundy ones, and some even in snow-white ones. Be that as it may, you will also need to purchase a special uniform for sambo training - a jacket or kimono. If 10-15 years ago sambo jackets were a drawback and fighters mainly trained in judo kimonos, now it is not so difficult to purchase a sambo jacket.
It is completely acceptable to practice in a thick and strong judo kimono, but if in the future you will participate in competitions, it is better to immediately purchase a special jacket - a blue or reddish sambo jacket. In our market you can purchase a sambo jacket for children with a height of 115 cm and adults with a height of 200 cm and a weight of up to 150 kg. The assortment includes jackets from Russian manufacturers, as well as uniforms from Tajikistan.
The second attribute of a sambist is sambo shorts. You can completely do without them during training, replacing them with any comfortable trousers without zippers and other decorative parts. If your plans include demonstration sparring and roles in competitions, then you will have to purchase sambo shorts in blue and reddish colors (shorts must be the same color as the jacket).
As a rule, the shorts have the inscription SAMBO/SAMBO. Shorts made of knitted cotton are more comfortable: they are elastic and environmentally friendly at the same time.
At the initial step, you can do without wrestling shoes - sports shoes with soft soles, but to protect the toes and ankles, as well as for the greatest grip on the wrestling mat, the sambo wrestler needs special shoes made of soft leather, suede or mesh. You can purchase wrestling shoes from sizes 30 to 47 from us. A sambist’s shoes can be neither positively nor negatively dark, or match the color of the uniform – reddish or blue.
Thus, a strong sambo jacket or judo kimono is irreplaceable during training.
Practicing throws and jerks is unthinkable without reliable equipment made of thick fabric. If shorts are necessary mainly to achieve a harmonious appearance for a sambist, then wrestling shoes serve to protect the fighter’s legs from injury.
Why is it better not to use a machine?
Features of caring for wrestling shoes depend on what materials they are made from. If genuine leather or split leather was used in the manufacture of shoes, it is not recommended to clean them in the drum of a washing machine. Intensive washing can cause the wrestling shoes to lose their shape and the leather to crack. It will be impossible to wear them after this procedure. Therefore, natural leather should only be cleaned by hand. For sambo training you can also use fabric wrestling shoes. Such models can be washed in a machine, but subject to certain rules.
- Less powder should be used than usual. It is better to halve the recommended dosage or abandon the product altogether, preferring washing gel.
- Before putting the wrestling shoes into the drum, they should be placed in a special bag for careful washing of clothes.
- Start one of the following operating modes of the washing machine: “Shoes”, “Hand Wash” or “Delicate Wash”.
- Turn off the spin or set the minimum number of revolutions, no more than 400.
- The water heating temperature should be no more than +300 C so that the material does not get damaged and retains its color.
Important! Sports shoes, including wrestling shoes, should be treated with care. The durability and reliability of the products depends on how delicate and proper the care is.
Rules for drying and ironing
To prevent the form from stretching, it must be dried and ironed properly. It is unacceptable to wring out and dry a kimono in a machine, otherwise deformation cannot be avoided. It is better to squeeze the product with your hands gently without twisting too much. It is recommended to dry it in the open air - on a balcony or street; you cannot hang it on a radiator. Some people prefer to take their clothes out into the cold to remove odors. If you follow simple rules, you will be able to avoid damage to the fabric.
The fact is that ironing cotton is extremely difficult even at high temperatures. Products with a woven structure should not be ironed, they just need to be washed and dried properly to prevent wrinkles.
Note! Many people starch kimonos to give the fabric shape and elasticity, but it must be done correctly. In cases where a large amount of starch and a thick solution is used, the product becomes too hard. Washing starch out of fabric will be problematic.
Washing and bleaching a kimono at home is quite simple. To do this, use mild chlorine-free bleaches, powders or liquid products for white laundry. You need to dry the uniform in the fresh air to avoid bad odors. Ironing is usually not required if all steps have been completed correctly.
Traditional care
Expensive wrestling shoes made of genuine leather should be washed by hand. This way, it is more likely to preserve their appearance and quality. To do this, you can use the following tips:
- When cleaning wet suede, do not rub it with brushes or rags. Because of this, contaminants are absorbed deeper into the material. You can use a brush to remove dust, and then wipe off the shiny areas with a paper eraser. This helps remove remaining dirt and lift the suede fibers;
- If the wrestling shoes are very dirty, you should take a soft cloth or rubber brush and moisten it in soapy water. Wipe your shoes carefully so that they do not get wet through;
- After wet cleaning, use a dry cloth to blot the wrestling shoes from the inside and outside. Take newspaper, put it inside the shoes and leave it to dry.
Athletes with experience know that shoes must be aired regularly: unlace, remove the insole. This helps get rid of unpleasant odor. You can also use special means for this purpose.
How to wash cotton so that it shrinks
Cotton products are distinguished by their flexibility; they shrink and stretch without difficulty. If you need to wash cotton to make it shrink, it is important to consider the quality of the dye in cases where the item is not pure white. Otherwise, there is a real risk of getting faded clothes, but the right size.
For white items, you can use machine wash. Select the mode with the highest water temperature and the strongest spin. Once completed, iron the items using a hot iron.
If the material is colored, it is better to shrink it by hand. In this case, wash a T-shirt or other item in hot water. To shrink cotton, use hot water at 90 degrees and it will be enough. For every 5 minutes of washing, the T-shirt will shrink by one size. If after washing the product no longer shrinks, then washing the cotton further is useless.
