These types of shoes differ in decor and color scheme. There are women's, children's, and men's varieties.
They can also have different heights:

Features of cleaning sneakers made of smooth leather, suede, velor and nubuck
Velor, suede and nubuck are polished natural leather, which differs in the method of dressing and tanning. These materials are very difficult to care for and need to be treated with care. Sneakers and sneakers made from genuine leather of various types are distinguished by their sophisticated appearance and resistance to stains.
Smooth natural leather
Smooth leather is a universal material for the production of high-quality sports shoes, intended not only for summer, but also for mid-season use. Among natural materials, it is the least difficult to care for.
How to clean shoes made of genuine leather:
- In a small bowl, mix warm water (200 ml) and liquid soap without aromatic and oil additives (15-20 ml).
- Beat the foam with a fork and apply it to the surface of the shoe with a soft textile napkin.
- Wipe all the most contaminated areas, trying to keep the movements neat and delicate.
- Then repeat the process, replacing the soap solution with clean water.
- Then wipe dry with flannel or other soft cloth.
- Apply the colorless cream and rub it into the skin with gentle movements.
Important! Never scrub natural leather shoes with a brush with synthetic bristles. Such handling will result in scratches on the surface of the leather.
Suede
Natural suede is not afraid of water and is highly moisture resistant. It is very soft and has increased elasticity.
How to clean sneakers and sneakers made of suede:
- Mix room temperature water (75 ml) and ammonia (15 ml) in a small container.
- Dampen a brush with soft synthetic bristles in this solution and walk it over the most dirty areas. Movements should be gentle and careful.
- Wait for it to dry and check the result. Sometimes it is necessary to carry out this manipulation several more times.
Important! Before cleaning suede shoes, you need to be sure that the material is natural. Some unscrupulous manufacturers pass off artificial suede as natural, which can lead to damage to shoes in the process of removing dirt.
Velours
Sneakers or sneakers made of velor look unusual and attractive. But such shoes are extremely unstable to moisture and dirt. They are absorbed into the natural material and destroy its integrity.
The main rule for caring for velor shoes is: before cleaning, you must thoroughly dry your sneakers or sneakers without using heating devices.
We clean velor sneakers as follows:
- Be sure to purchase a special brush with two cleaning surfaces and a cleaning spray designed to remove dirt from the velor surface.
- Run the soft rubber part of the brush over the dirty areas of the shoe.
- Then apply the cleaner spray to the entire surface of the shoes.
- Let it dry for 5-10 minutes, and then hold the sneakers over the steam for 2-3 minutes.
- Lift the bristles using the metal bristles on the other side of the brush. Movements should be very careful, without pressure.
Nubuck
Sneakers and sneakers made of nubuck have a velvety surface, which gives them strength and wear resistance. This material retains heat well, but does not tolerate moisture at all.
Cleaning nubuck shoes is carried out as follows:
- Go over the entire surface of the sneaker with a clean brush with soft synthetic bristles. Before wet cleaning, it is necessary to remove all dry contaminants - dust, sand, dried dirt.
- Then apply a special shampoo designed for cleaning nubuck products to your shoes.
- Leave it on for 3-5 minutes and then remove it with a soft, clean cloth.
- If you can’t remove all the dirt right away, apply a thin layer of shampoo again.
In addition to dirt, a special shampoo will help remove whitish stains from nubuck shoes.
Washing in a washing machine
Before placing the sneakers, freed from laces and insoles, into the drum of the machine, several preparatory steps are carried out:
- The soles are cleaned of heavy dirt.
- Place the pairs in a bag specially designed for machine washing. It can be purchased in a store, or, if necessary, made from light, plain cotton fabric yourself. You can adapt a pillowcase.
- After placing the shoes in it, the bag is tightly tied. This measure protects sports products from excessive deformation, reduces vibration of the unit and reduces the risk of damage to the drum from shoe impacts.
Select a delicate mode, setting the temperature in the range from 30 to 40 degrees. Higher heat causes the sole to peel off. Some modern models provide a special mode aimed at washing sports shoes.
Washing sneakers in a machine
Spin is turned off if possible. In the absence of such a function, set the lowest speed.
Recommendations for caring for different materials
When buying sports shoes, you should ask the seller about the care of the model. You may need to immediately buy special products, especially for leather or suede products. If you plan to wear them in the rainy season, the sneakers are treated with water-repellent liquids. After getting your feet wet, you must immediately dry the sneakers, otherwise you will not be able to avoid stretching of the product and an unpleasant odor.
Sneakers must be washed at least several times a season, but this should not be done too often. You can remove stains faster if you do it right away. After each walk, you should wipe your shoes, even if there are no visible stains. Over time, the dust will eat in and give the material a dark color.

Washing insoles and laces
Laces and insoles removed from shoes should also be washed. If they are strong, then they are placed in the bag at the same time as the sneakers during the machine procedure.
Having noticed significant wear of the insoles and it is impossible to replace them, proceed to hand washing. Using a sponge, moisten the surface with water. Then pour a thin layer of washing powder and scrub off the stains with a small clothes brush or toothbrush.
Cleaned insoles are rinsed under running cool water and placed on a terry cloth. Dry under natural room conditions or on the balcony in a straightened form on a horizontal plane.
Cleaning insoles
If the insoles are not very dirty, then just wash them under cool water and soap. When products are dirty, it is best to treat them with soda or alcohol.
Washing sneakers in a machine, of course, is always risky, but it is quite possible and frees up almost an hour of time. And yet you will have to prepare the Converse and wash the soles manually. Leather or faux leather sneakers just need to be wiped with a damp cloth from time to time and lubricated with glycerin or a special impregnation 1-2 times a season. Suede requires only dry cleaning, and a couple of times a season - wet cleaning (with foam, but without water, using a damp brush or steam cleaner). And your shoes will tell everyone that you know a lot about style.
Detergents
When washing sportswear, preference is given to liquid laundry detergents and gels. You can use capsules.
Detergents
Loose powders in granules are difficult to rinse out, so they leave streaks. It is not advisable to use them.
If you wash white sneakers, then carefully read the label, choosing a gel for white textiles. Colored pairs are washed accordingly with products intended for colored items.
There are special types of gel that are aimed directly at sports products. At the same time, they effectively eliminate characteristic odors.
