Children go through many developmental stages as they grow up. Drawing is one of them. Many mothers buy gouache paints for this, because they are so bright and thick, and also have a soft consistency, which allows the little artist to dip not only a brush, but also a finger into it.
We can talk endlessly about the advantages of drawing for children. It develops imagination, color perception, fine motor skills, but it is the mother who has to deal with the shortcomings, because the consequences of art are numerous stains, both on clothes and on interior items. Removing gouache stains can be not so easy, but there are several ways to help solve this problem.
How to remove stains from an artificial stone countertop?
We have been making countertops from artificial stone for more than 10 years and very rarely people turn to us for repairs. The main reason is the quality of the Corian and Monelli material we work with. We can guarantee that if you follow the basic rules for using a tabletop (any kind of tabletop), there cannot be any stains on it, even on white artificial stone. These are the simple rules.
Recommendations for caring for artificial stone countertops
- It is necessary to regularly wash the countertop with soap and water or any detergent to prevent the accumulation of fats and other contaminants.
- When washing, you do not need to use abrasive mixtures or metal sponges.
- It is advisable to cut food on cutting boards.
- You cannot put hot food on artificial stone! Use a special stand.
- If the countertop comes into contact with dyes, it is better not to put off tidying until tomorrow, but to immediately wipe the surface.
Products made from artificial stone do not cause trouble for their owners, but if a stain appears on the countertop, there are several ways to restore it to its original appearance.
Artificial stone in the mid-price segment and above is not a porous material; dyes are not harmful to it.
What to do if a stain on the countertop cannot be washed off?
Artificial stone in the medium and higher price segment, as a rule, does not absorb dyes and rust even with prolonged contact with “irritants”. The only thing this material is afraid of is high temperatures. Also, there is a possibility of scratching a glossy product if you use abrasives such as sandpaper or metal brushes.
Even such persistent dyes as beets or wine cannot spoil high-quality acrylic stone
Usually, to remove stains, it is enough to simply wipe the surface more vigorously with a damp sponge, even without using detergents. Most stains are actually old dirt rather than staining. If a coffee or wine stain cannot be washed off in half a minute, you can resort to the following manipulations:
Apply a warm detergent solution to the stain. For these purposes, regular dishwashing detergent and acrylic bathtub cleaners are suitable. If a stain from beets, dark berries, wine, tea or coffee has become ingrained into a white countertop, you can use bleach. The main thing is to make sure that the components of the cleaning product are not too aggressive, avoid acids. For example, “Mole” is definitely not suitable for flushing pipes here.
Stubborn stains can be removed with a melamine sponge
Good reviews for cleaning white surfaces from dirt are often heard about the melamine sponge. Its properties are similar to a soft eraser. You can buy it at almost any hardware store for 10 rubles. This sponge should last for a month of daily cleaning.
If traces of rust and scale are found on the countertop, remove them using delicate gels and solutions. It is undesirable to use powders, especially coarse abrasive ones. Also, do not rub stains with an iron sponge.
How to remove white hot spot?
White hot spots are much more difficult to deal with. As already mentioned, high temperature is the only thing that artificial stone is afraid of. If you have just placed a hot pan on the countertop, immediately remove the hot pan and rinse the stain first with warm and then with cold water. If actions are taken quickly enough, and the temperature was not critical, then in this way you will save the countertop. If the stain cannot be removed, you will have to contact specialists in the repair of artificial stone products.
Artificial stone is a repairable material. It is easy to restore a tabletop made of it.
How to repair an artificial stone countertop?
If you are faced with an incredibly persistent stain that does not budge no matter what you use to clean the artificial stone, or if cracks and chips have formed on the product, contact the craftsmen. Repair of countertops is carried out in the workshop, and the price depends on the complexity and volume of work.
When repairing, the damaged area is cut out of the countertop with a router and replaced with the same material from which the product is made. Then the entire surface is rubbed and sanded so that the difference between it and the repaired area is not noticeable. If the damage is large, sometimes you have to order a whole sheet of artificial stone. Naturally, such repairs will not be cheap, so we always recommend using hot mats and treating artificial stone with care.
Types, composition and properties
To understand how to remove paint from fabric or other surfaces, such as carpeting, at home, you need to know as much as possible about gouache:
- It dissolves well in water, just like watercolor.
- It has a thick, dense structure.
- Bright, rich color of various shades, which are achieved due to the special composition of this substance.
- Once applied to the surface, it fades slightly, allowing artists to achieve a matte, natural look to a particular painting.
- To avoid cracking of the dried mass and quickly clean it from the surface, apply gouache in a thin layer.
Gouache
Kinds:
- artistic;
- fluorescent;
- poster
Gouache composition:
- Its main components are glue and white. Due to the presence of glue, the substance becomes thick, adheres perfectly to the selected base and dries quickly. Whitewash imparts a matte finish and also brings a certain thickness.
- Additional components include: binders (phenols, water, alizarin oil, gum arabic), as well as plasticizers (gum, dextrin, glycerin and others).
- In addition, it contains synthetic mixtures that affect pigments. They make gouache unusually bright.
- It is water-based, but it will not be possible to remove it from things or other surfaces with ordinary liquid.
To remove stains most effectively, before starting this procedure, study what solvents are included in a particular paint and use them during washing.
Wash by hand
However, we should not forget about the many folk methods for removing the substance in question from T-shirts, shirts and other materials. The main thing is to follow certain recommendations and tips that will help you achieve maximum results.
Cleaning delicate fabrics
The question of how to remove gouache from white clothes or thin, delicate fabrics is especially acute. For this purpose it is better to use a stain remover. The choice of these products on sale is very wide, which will help you choose the composition suitable for each specific case. If you carefully follow the instructions, the item can usually be saved.
Oxygen bleach that does not contain chlorine can effectively help remove stains on a blouse or nylon tights. If you need to act quickly and don’t have any of the above products at hand, you can wash gouache off white using dishwashing detergent. It is best to use formulations in the form of a gel, since the higher the concentration of the product, the better the result. It is diluted in water, the item is placed there for a few minutes, and then washed by hand or in a washing machine.
How to remove watercolors from a carpet?

Methods for removing gouache from different surfaces
How to remove gouache stains from clothes
If you put a paint stain on your clothing and it has not yet dried, you can easily remove it by washing the item in cool water and laundry soap. It is better to place a completely stained item in a bowl with a cold soapy solution or water in which a stain remover has been diluted.
To remove dried gouache stains, first use mechanical cleaning. Gouache that has had time to dry should be scraped off using a stiff brush or knife. But be extremely careful not to damage the fabric structure. Next, lather the stain with soap and leave it for a while.
Remaining stains can be removed using acetone or nail polish remover. And remember, to prevent the paint from spreading, rub from the edges to the middle.
But using acetone on delicate fabrics is strictly not recommended. Therefore, regular medical alcohol will help you here.
Do not despair and do not throw away the item if you are unable to completely remove the stain. As a rule, only a few housewives can do this right away. But after 2-3 washes, not a trace remains of the gouache.
